Governor Nyesom Wike has addressed business leaders in Rivers State and advised them to pay the value added tax (VAT) for September to the South-Southern state of Nigeria.

The governor addressed business leaders at the government house on Wednesday. In his address, Wike said that in June 2021, the Federal inland Revenue services (FIRS) collected N46.4Bn from Lagos but the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission allocated a mere N9.3Bn to them.

For Rivers State, he revealed, the FIRS collected N15.1bn and gave the state N4.1Bn and at the same time, he said, Kano fetched N2.8Bn and was got all of it back.

The governor calls this disparity in VAT proceeds and what is given to the States an inexplicable form of injustice that weakens the performance potential of the states.
