Russia on Wednesday recalled its ambassador to the United States to Moscow to reportedly “consult on the future of US-Russia relations” stressing it wants to avoid declining ties.
According to Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement, Russia’s ambassador Anatoly Antonov, has been asked to come to Moscow for consultations and analysis on the next step and the direction to take in the context of US-Russia Ties.
The latest incident comes after U.S President Joe Biden said Vladimir Putin would be held accountable for allegedly meddling in US elections.
In an interview with ABC News, President Joe Biden was asked about intelligence that said Putin tried to harm his candidacy in the November 2020 election to which Biden replied that Putin would pay the price.
Biden also agreed to insinuations that Putin, who has been accused of poisoning political opponents, is a “killer.
But foreign ministry spokeswoman said Russia was interested in preventing ties from deteriorating which would be irreversible and which she says Washington has driven into a dead end in recent years.
The foreign ministry did not make any reference to Biden’s remarks on Putin, but stressed that the country would closely examine and analyze results of Biden’s first 100 days in office.
