Service Chiefs Arrive In Maiduguri After Deadly Borno Bomb Blasts

The Chief of Defence Staff of Nigeria, Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, have arrived in Maiduguri following the deadly triple bomb blasts that rocked the state earlier in the week.

Both military chiefs reportedly touched down on Wednesday at the Maiduguri Air Force Base aboard a white-and-red painted jet.

The attacks, which occurred on Monday evening, left at least 23 people dead and 108 others injured, heightening security concerns in Borno State.

Their arrival comes shortly after Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered security chiefs to relocate to the state in response to the attacks.

In a statement shared on his official X account on Tuesday, the President expressed condolences to the victims and praised Nigerian troops for repelling coordinated assaults on military formations.

“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres,” President Tinubu said.

He further revealed that he had directed security chiefs to move to the state and oversee security operations while also instructing emergency agencies to care for the injured.

“I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured,” he stated.

Upon arrival, the service chiefs were received by the Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, alongside the General Officer Commanding and other senior military officials at the Maiduguri Air Force Base.

The visit is expected to strengthen ongoing military operations and coordinate security responses following the recent attacks in the region.
