Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the Ebute-Meta Rail Line, now renamed Mobolaii Johnson Station. Environment Correspondent Gimalo-Angel Olowogoke reports that the President arrived the venue in a chopper at about 11am Thursday morning.

There was tight security as Alagomeji was totally cordoned off. Neighbours were excited as they had the President visit their neighbourhood. The president pledged that his administration would continue to prioritise the railway system as a transportation backbone that can transform industrial and economic activity in the country.

On the benefits of the Lagos-Ibadan corridor as well as other ongoing railway projects across the country, President Buhari said: ‘This vital line establishes an end-to-end logistic supply chain in railway transport within its short corridor, Lagos – Ibadan, as goods to the hinterland would now be transported by rail directly from the Apapa port Quayside straight to the Inland Container Depot located in Ibadan from where it can be distributed to other parts of the country.

Some respondents that spoke with LN247 News Correspondent said they wanted the President to open amusement park for the children and also provide employment for the people through the opening of the Station. The Station is presently open to the public.
