Spain Wildfire Death Toll Climbs To 11 As Firefighters Contain Inferno

At least 11 people have been confirmed dead as firefighters continue battling a devastating wildfire in southern Spain.

According to authorities, the bodies of all 11 victims were discovered in and around the village of Bédar, located near Los Gallardos in the Andalusia region.

Andalusia’s regional health and emergencies minister, Antonio Sanz, said the majority or possibly all of those who died may be foreign nationals.

Among the victims were four people found trapped inside a car. Sanz said the vehicle had a right-hand steering wheel, leading investigators to believe the occupants were “of British origin.”

However, there has been no official confirmation of the victims’ nationality, and the BBC said it had contacted the UK Foreign Office for further information.

Meanwhile, Andalusia regional president Juanma Moreno disclosed that 19 people remain unaccounted for following the wildfire, while eight others sustained injuries, including four who are in critical condition.

Emergency crews are continuing efforts to contain the blaze as search and rescue operations remain underway.
