Spanish Energy Company Secures Planning Approval For Baltic Eagle Wind Farm

Spanish energy company Iberdrola has completed the planning approval process for the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm after receiving the green light from the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency.

The milestone will usher in the construction phase of the 476MW wind farm which is scheduled for commissioning in 2024.

The project is based in the German Baltic Sea and forms part of Iberdrola’s 1.1GW Baltic Hub, which will help avoid 800,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Currently, Iberdrola is busy with the exploration of explosive ordnance on the seabed and has commissioned seabed investigation to ensure a safe environment for construction work to begin.

EEW Group Special Pipe Constructions has completed the first monopile for Baltic Eagle, out of the 50 units required for the site. According to Iberdrola, the steel pylons which serve as foundations for the turbines measure between 75 and 90 metres long.

Furthermore, Spanish company Windar has fabricated the first transition piece, connecting the turbine tower and the foundation.

The offshore substation (OSS) for Baltic Eagle is currently being manufactured and will be delivered this year. The OSS will be built and operated jointly by Iberdrola and the transmission grid operator 50Hertz.
