Stop using recalled Organic food products – NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians against using Whole Foods Market 365 Organic Creamy Caesar Dressing, an organic food product produced by Van Law Food Products based in the United States of America.

The agency explained that Van Law Food Products, an Incorporation of Fullerton, California, is voluntarily issuing a recall of the products because they may contain undeclared soy and wheat allergens.

The NAFDAC public alert, with No. 025/2022, signed by the Director-General of the agency, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, was issued to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Tuesday.

Adeyeye stated that the recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of soy and wheat allergen.

According to her, individuals who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy or wheat are at the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they ingest these products.

Adeyeye disclosed that subsequent investigation indicated that the issue was caused by a temporary breakdown in Van Law Food Product’s labelling and packaging processes.

She also cautioned members of the public who have the recalled products to discontinue sale or use and hand over their stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

“NAFDAC encourages healthcare professionals, consumers and patients to report adverse events related to the use of this product to the nearest NAFDAC office, NAFDAC PRASCOR (20543 TOLLS FREE from all networks.

“The public also could report any adverse effect via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng or the NAFDAC ADR e-Reporting platform available at www.nafdac.gov.ng,” the DG said.
