Sudan Crisis: Ethiopia Denies Fleeing Students Entry

Some Nigerian students caught in the crossfire in war-torn Sudan have been denied entry into neighbouring Ethiopia.

The development was made known by the federal government on Monday and it was also disclosed that while the fleeing students were blocked, the situation is being handled.

According to the federal government, Nigerian authorities in Ethiopia are tackling the issue as they have sought clearance for those involved, adding that it was risky for the students to have gone on the journey.

Meanwhile, the United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, revealed on Tuesday that the warring generals in Sudan have agreed to a three-day ceasefire.

The ceasefire begins on Tuesday (2200 GMT Monday) following failed previous attempts to pause the conflict.

“Following intense negotiation over the past 48 hours, the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces have agreed to implement a nationwide ceasefire starting at midnight on April 24, to last for 72 hours.

“During this period, the United States urges the SAF and RSF to immediately and fully uphold the ceasefire,” Blinken said.
