Tinubu Appoints Oluyede as Acting Chief of Army Staff

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to temporarily oversee the Nigerian Army.

This appointment was announced by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, who clarified that Oluyede will hold the role until Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the substantive Chief of Army Staff, returns from medical treatment abroad.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has designated Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS),” Onanuga stated.

Prior to this role, Oluyede held the position of the 56th Commander of the Infantry Corps in Jaji, Kaduna. Aged 56, Oluyede has shared a long military career with Lagbaja; both officers are alumni of the Nigerian Army’s 39th Regular Course. Commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1992 (retroactively from 1987), Oluyede reached the rank of Major-General in September 2020.
