President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, just five days after his confirmation by the Senate.
The confirmation was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio following a voice vote by lawmakers during the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, March 11. Senators had earlier engaged Oyedele in a screening session that lasted over two hours before approving his nomination.
Responding to questions during the screening, Oyedele described his appointment as a call to serve Nigeria.
Oyedele’s appointment comes after President Tinubu nominated him to replace Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been redeployed to serve as Minister of State for Budget and National Planning.
Before his elevation to the ministerial role, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led efforts to develop and implement Nigeria’s new tax framework.
Appointed to that role in July 2023, he and his team spent over two years restructuring the country’s tax system. Despite initial resistance, the reforms eventually took effect on January 1, marking a major shift in Nigeria’s fiscal policy landscape.
The new tax regime is aimed at improving tax administration, increasing government revenue, enhancing the business environment, and attracting both domestic and foreign investment.
Oyedele’s appointment is seen as part of the Tinubu administration’s broader effort to strengthen fiscal policy and drive economic reforms, with expectations that his experience will play a key role in shaping Nigeria’s economic direction.
