Transform health sector, provost tasks nurses, midwives

The Provost, Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando, Mrs. Oyefunso Orenuga, has called on nurses and midwives to have a reformative mindset.

This, she said, would go a long way in impacting their patients and transforming the healthcare sector.

According to a statement by the state Ministry of Information on Wednesday, Orenuga spoke at a seminar organised by the college to celebrate the 2022 International Nurses Day.

She said the seminar with the theme “Psychology of behaviour: Your mindset is everything,” was part of the continuous efforts to expose students of the college to the growth mindset, thereby paving way for professional excellence.

The statement also quoted the guest speaker, Jide Ologun, as listing the components of a growth mindset to include motivation, information, networking, determination, strategy, excellence and transformation.

“Charging nurses, midwives and nurses-in-training to embrace reformative innovations for the transformation of the health sector and Nigeria as a country, Ologun noted that Nightingale became a reformer and trailblazer in the nursing and healthcare sector due to her resolve to make an impact,” the statement read.

The President of the college’s Students Association, Martins Ebubeogu, appreciated the provost and management of the college for putting up the seminar to impact the nurses and midwives. He implored the students to use the knowledge acquired at the seminar to enhance their profession and careers.

In commemoration of the day, the students of LASCON embarked on outreach to sensitise the community about malaria infection.
