Troops under Operation ENDURING PEACE have successfully neutralised at least 10 suspected terrorists and recovered weapons and logistics materials during coordinated military operations across parts of Plateau State.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with local vigilante groups, targeted criminal elements in Daba and Seri villages within Wase and Kanam Local Government Areas as part of the ongoing Operation WUTAN DAJI.
According to the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Chinonso Oteh, the troops acted on credible intelligence to intercept the attackers.
“At about 08:30am on April 9, 2026, troops established strategic blocking positions between Dutsen Zaki and the Odare Forest. A large group of terrorists mounted on motorcycles was sighted moving along a known transit route and was decisively engaged,” he said.
Oteh explained that despite resistance, the troops overpowered the group with coordinated firepower.
“The troops responded with superior and well-coordinated firepower, overwhelming the terrorists. Ten were neutralized, while others fled in disarray into the surrounding forest, leaving behind casualties,” he stated.
In a separate but related response, troops intervened after reports of an attack on commuters along the Razat–Kafi Abu axis, forcing the assailants to retreat.
“Following the report, troops initiated a swift and comprehensive offensive. The perpetrators withdrew into the hinterlands, prompting immediate pursuit by our forces to restore peace and security,” Oteh explained.
Subsequent cordon-and-search operations in Suma Suga, Takwok, and surrounding mountainous areas yielded significant recoveries.
“Items recovered include three AK-47 rifles, three magazines, eight rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two motorcycles, and five 25-litre jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit intended for terrorist logistics,” he said.
The military also recovered “a national identity card and a photograph belonging to the suspects, providing valuable leads for ongoing investigations”.
Reaffirming the armed forces’ commitment, Oteh noted, “This successful engagement marks a significant step in degrading the operational capacity of armed groups in the region. Troops remain on high alert and are in pursuit of the fleeing terrorists and their collaborators.”
He assured residents that operations would continue until stability is fully restored, adding that “Operation ENDURING PEACE will intensify clearance efforts across identified flashpoints to guarantee the safety of lives and property.”
The latest military success comes amid renewed security concerns following a recent attack in Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area, where at least eight people were killed after gunmen reportedly opened fire on residents for nearly an hour.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Samuel Amalau, expressed concern over the recurring violence in the area.
