Trump Declares Strait Of Hormuz ‘Joint Venture’ with Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested a potential “joint venture” between the United States and Iran in managing the Strait of Hormuz, following Tehran’s agreement to a temporary ceasefire.

Speaking after the announcement, Trump indicated that both countries are considering a cooperative arrangement to secure the vital oil route, which handles a significant portion of global crude shipments. The proposal comes as Iran reportedly plans to impose transit fees of up to $1 million per vessel during the two-week ceasefire period.

Sources indicate that ship operators may be required to go through a detailed clearance process involving intermediaries linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). This process includes disclosing cargo details, ownership information, and destinations, with payments potentially made in Chinese yuan or cryptocurrency.

Estimates suggest that Iran could generate substantial revenue from these tolls, with some analysts projecting earnings reaching hundreds of billions of dollars over several years.

Meanwhile, negotiations between both nations continue, with key issues including sanctions relief, regional military presence, and nuclear activity still under discussion. While Iran’s proposal emphasizes its right to uranium enrichment, Trump has maintained that such activities would not be permitted under any final agreement.

Despite uncertainties, early market reactions have been positive, with oil prices declining and U.S. stock futures rising following news of the ceasefire. Trump described the development as a significant step toward global stability, calling it “a big day for world peace.”
