Turaki-Led PDP Denies Rift Over 2027 Candidates

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, has denied reports claiming that some of its candidates for the 2027 general elections are planning legal action against the faction’s interim leadership.

The group described the reports as false, insisting they were being circulated by individuals seeking to create confusion within the party.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Interim National Working Committee (NWC) and signed by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the group maintained that none of its candidates had threatened to sue or expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership.

According to the statement, the faction’s candidates have remained in regular contact with party officials and continue to receive updates on developments affecting the party.

“There has not been a single complaint, let alone any threat of legal action, by any of our candidates. On the contrary, all the party’s candidates have remained in constant communication with the leadership and are regularly briefed on ongoing developments,” the statement said.

The faction accused unnamed individuals of deliberately spreading false information to mislead the public and create instability within the party.

It urged journalists and media organisations to ignore the reports and rely only on official statements released through the recognised communication channels of the Turaki-led PDP faction.

According to the statement, those behind the reports are “ill-wishers and PDP pretenders who are APC apologists” attempting to sow confusion within the opposition party.

The rumours emerged after claims that aspirants who purchased nomination forms from the faction were allegedly denied access codes by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload their details on the commission’s candidate nomination portal.

The reports also alleged that the affected aspirants were considering legal action against the faction’s leadership over the issue.

However, the Turaki-led faction dismissed the claims as entirely baseless.

The faction further disclosed that a lawsuit filed by its Board of Trustees, seeking an order compelling INEC to recognise the Interim National Working Committee constituted by its National Executive Committee, came up for hearing on Tuesday.

According to the statement, legal representatives of all parties adopted their respective court filings before the matter was adjourned for judgment on a date to be communicated by the court.

The faction said it remains confident in the judicial process and will await the court’s decision.
