The UK’s Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Kwasi Kwarteng, has granted development consent for the East Anglia ONE North and East Anglia TWO offshore wind farms.
The East Anglia ONE North application includes an offshore wind farm of up to 67 turbines and an installed capacity of up to 800MW. The site is located 36km from Lowestoft and 42km from Southwold.
The East Anglia TWO application was for an offshore wind farm of up to 75 turbines, an installed capacity of up to 900MW and will be located 37km from Lowestoft and 32km from Southwold.
ScottishPower Renewables submitted the applications to the Planning Inspectorate for consideration on 25 October 2019, after which stakeholders were given time to provide evidence to the Examining Authority.
The Planning Inspectorate’s Chief Executive, Sarah Richards said: “The Planning Inspectorate has examined more than 100 nationally significant infrastructure projects since the Planning Act 2008 process was introduced, ensuring local communities have had the opportunity of being involved in the examination of projects that may affect them.
“These Examinations took place during the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated restrictions, and the Examining Authority worked hard to ensure that local people, the local authority and other interested parties were able to fully participate.
“The Examining Authority listened and gave full consideration to local views and the evidence gathered during the examination before making their recommendations.”
