US Supplies Military Equipment To Nigeria To Bolster Security Operations

The United States has supplied military equipment to Nigerian security agencies to support ongoing operations across different parts of the country, according to a statement shared by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) on X.

“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasises our shared security partnership,” the post stated.

The delivery comes after a Nigerian delegation visited Washington in November 2025 to deepen security collaboration and explore additional areas of partnership with the United States.

The delegation was headed by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and comprised the Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiandeye; and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

In meetings with senior officials from the US Congress, the White House Faith Office, the State Department, the National Security Council, and the Department of War, the Nigerian delegation addressed allegations of genocide in Nigeria.

They stressed that violent attacks impact families regardless of religion or ethnicity and dismissed claims that they said misrepresent the realities on the ground.

“The discussions provided ample opportunity to correct misconceptions about Nigeria, forged a constructive, solution-driven partnership with the United States, reinforced mutual trust, and advanced a coordinated approach to protecting vulnerable communities, especially in the Middle Belt,” said Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesman.

Onanuga further disclosed that both nations agreed to put in place a non-binding cooperation framework and set up a Joint Working Group to promote a unified and coordinated implementation of the agreed areas of cooperation.

He noted that the Nigerian government restated its dedication to protecting civilians, adding that “firm, urgent, and coordinated steps are being taken to secure the nation.”

Onanuga also revealed that the United States indicated its willingness to offer additional support, including humanitarian assistance for affected communities in the Middle Belt and technical support to enhance early-warning systems.

The delivery of the military supplies underscores continued efforts by both governments to strengthen security initiatives and confront the threats posed by terrorism and violent extremist groups in Nigeria.
