The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the commencement of the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) meeting to address malpractice and irregularities identified during the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
The 78th NEC meeting is focused on evaluating and resolving reported cases of exam misconduct from this year’s WASSCE. In a statement released on Monday via X, WAEC highlighted the significance of this meeting and encouraged stakeholders to stay informed about its proceedings.
“The 78th Meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) begins today to review and make decisions on the malpractice and irregularity cases arising from the conduct of WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024,” the statement said.
The outcomes of this important meeting are anticipated to have substantial effects on students and the overall educational system in Nigeria. WAEC has urged affected candidates and the public to remain attentive for updates regarding the meeting’s conclusions.
The results for the exam were released two months prior, with WAEC announcing, “The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform candidates who sat for WASSCE for school candidates in 2024 that the results have officially been released today, Monday, August 12, 2024.” However, it is noteworthy that WAEC withheld the results of 215,267 candidates from the 2024 WASSCE.
