West Ham United is leading the competition to secure Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, aiming to outpace Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal, as well as PSG, for his signature.
According to GIVEMESPORT, the London club considers the 2024 Ballon d’Or nominee a prime target to strengthen Julen Lopetegui’s attack after a challenging start to the season.
Lookman had an outstanding 2023/24 season with Atalanta, recording 17 goals and 10 assists in all competitions. His season highlight included a memorable hat-trick in the Europa League final, which clinched the Italian club’s first European trophy.
His impressive form earned him a 14th-place finish in the Ballon d’Or rankings, surpassing notable Premier League talents like Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Cole Palmer.
The versatile 27-year-old, who transitioned from winger to striker during his time in Italy, could be available for approximately €25 million, despite being under contract with Atalanta until 2026. Reports from Italy suggest that Lookman may seek a new challenge and could depart from Serie A as early as January.
This season, Lookman has maintained his strong performance, contributing five goals and five assists in just 10 appearances. West Ham views him as an ideal addition to their attack, which includes Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, and Lucas Paqueta. The Hammers are eager to address their striker needs, given Michail Antonio’s advancing age and summer signing Niclas Fullkrug’s struggles to find form.
