The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba, who died at the age of 40 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Her passing comes barely a year after she made an emotional return to acting, announcing she was cancer-free and determined to use her experience to inspire others battling the disease. Osoba’s journey of resilience, faith, and determination earned her admiration from colleagues, fans, and health advocates across Nigeria.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed on Wednesday by fellow Nollywood actor Alesh Sanni, who paid tribute to the late actress in an emotional Instagram post.
“Couldn’t sleep since last night, it’s well. Rest in peace my dearest sister, Temitope Osoba. We had amazing time and good memories together, till we meet again. I really dunno what to say mehn, gosh,” he wrote.
Veteran actress Foluke Daramola also expressed her grief in a brief but emotional tribute, writing:
“She is gone, my baby is gone.”
Her death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, friends, and fans who remember her not only for her talent on screen but also for her remarkable courage in the face of a life-threatening illness.

Temitope Osoba was a respected Nigerian actress, dancer, and former video vixen who became one of the familiar faces in the Yoruba movie industry.
Known for her versatility, she built a successful acting career spanning nearly two decades, featuring in several popular Yoruba-language productions. Although she often portrayed bold, outspoken, or controversial characters on screen, those close to her described her as calm, humble, introverted, and deeply family-oriented.

Temitope Osoba was born on December 2, 1985, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
She was her father’s first child and her mother’s only child. Tragically, she lost both parents at a very young age and was subsequently raised by her paternal grandmother in Lagos.
She completed her primary and secondary education in Lagos before proceeding to Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ogun State, where she studied Business Education.
Long before becoming an actress, Osoba was active in Nigeria’s entertainment industry as a professional dancer and video vixen, experiences that helped shape her confidence and stage presence.

Temitope Osoba’s acting career began unexpectedly in 2005.
According to her, she accidentally walked into a movie rehearsal while returning from school. During the rehearsal, veteran actress Laide Bakare noticed her dancing ability and immediately gave her a role in the movie Ijoya.
That opportunity became the foundation of a flourishing career.

Although the first medical assessment suggested the lump resulted from hormonal changes, further examinations later confirmed it was breast cancer after it continued to increase in size.
She underwent surgery in November 2024 to remove the tumour.
Following the operation, doctors recommended another procedure to remove the remaining cancer cells, leading to months of intensive treatment and recovery.
At one point, she reportedly required approximately ₦12 million for corrective surgery, prompting Nollywood stars led by Foluke Daramola to launch public fundraising efforts to support her treatment.
The overwhelming support from colleagues, fans, and well-wishers became one of the defining moments of her recovery journey.

In August 2025, Osoba announced her return to Nollywood through an emotional Instagram video that resonated across social media.
Expressing gratitude to everyone who stood by her during her illness, she described the experience as one that transformed her life completely.
