Wike, Bala Mohammed Clash Over PDP Crisis

The political rift between Nyesom Wike and Bala Mohammed has escalated into a heated exchange, as both leaders trade accusations over the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party and speculation surrounding the governor’s possible defection.

Governor Mohammed, who currently chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, has hinted at leaving the party amid its lingering internal disputes. He recently held separate meetings with stakeholders from both the All Progressives Congress and the African Democratic Congress, fueling uncertainty over his next political move.

A source within the ADC said, “We are waiting but I can’t confirm whether or not he is joining us. The APC people have also gone to see him. After tomorrow, you can call me, then we can talk.”

Mohammed Blames Wike For PDP Crisis

Speaking after engaging ADC leaders, Mohammed accused Wike of being a central figure behind the PDP’s internal turmoil, insisting that repeated reconciliation efforts had failed.

‘’I have done everything possible to reconcile within the PDP. I met APC leadership at the national level, including its chairman, and even met the President three times in an effort to encourage reconciliation.

‘’I also met Nyesom Wike personally, putting aside personal pride. However, his position was clear; he believes he has already taken control of the party.

“We have found ourselves in a very serious situation. I have done everything possible to ensure reconciliation, but it has not worked,” he said.

He added that while discussions with both APC and ADC are ongoing, no final decision has been made.

“We explored all options, including the APC, but sadly, we discovered that we are not wanted there.”

“As of now, ADC appears to be a very welcoming and acceptable platform. However, we have not concluded discussions. We are engaging stakeholders to ensure we do not make mistakes.”

Mohammed assured that a final decision would be reached soon.

“We are very conscious of the timeline. Everything will be concluded by Thursday so that we can move forward together. You will hear a firm commitment from us,” he said.

APC Leadership Meets Mohammed

Amid the growing speculation, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda visited the Bauchi governor at the Government House, alongside Abba Yusuf.

The closed-door meeting, which followed an earlier engagement with ADC leaders led by Babachir Lawal, has intensified talks about Mohammed’s potential political realignment.

Wike Fires Back, Calls Exit ‘Good Riddance’

Reacting sharply, Wike dismissed Mohammed’s accusations and described his possible exit from the PDP as beneficial to the party.

“good riddance to bad rubbish,”

The minister alleged that the governor had been involved in behind-the-scenes negotiations to secure political concessions, including meetings with Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“It is very embarrassing. He said he went to see Mr President three times. What did he go to see Mr President for? He went to negotiate so that he can bring his successor and the APC refused him.

“He came to me and said he had gone to Mr President and would work for him. Why didn’t he tell Nigerians he met Mr President three times? You are in another party and going to see Mr President to solve your party problem?”

Claims Of Failed Negotiations and Internal Struggles

Wike further alleged that Mohammed attempted to negotiate positions within the PDP, including seeking the office of National Secretary currently held by Samuel Anyanwu.

“You’re already conquered; you lost. You’re talking from a weak point, and you want to demand Secretary? That is not done,” Wike said.

He also claimed that Mohammed had previously shifted political allegiances, citing events leading up to the 2023 elections.

“This was the same man… when the president emerged as the presidential candidate of APC, this same Bala Mohammed… flew down to Port Harcourt to meet me that we have to work for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that he can never work with Atiku. It didn’t take four days… now moved to the same Atiku.”

Deepening PDP Crisis Ahead Of 2027

The dispute underscores the deepening divisions within the PDP as the 2027 elections approach. While Mohammed explores possible alternatives, Wike maintains that the party is better off without what he described as inconsistent leadership.

He insisted that loyalty and stability are critical in politics, warning Nigerians to be cautious of politicians who frequently shift positions.

“I have said I will not leave the PDP. I have said that I will continue to support Mr President. That has been my position from 2022 to 2023 till now.”

As political consultations continue across parties, Mohammed’s final decision is expected to shape alignments and influence the broader electoral landscape ahead of 2027.
