The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State has welcomed 2,025 new members who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Party (ADC) and Nigeria Democratic Party (NDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors, drawn from various communities across Nangere Local Government Area, were formally received by PDP executives during a ceremony held in Sabon Garin Nangere.
The event was led by Halilu Mazagane, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and former senatorial candidate for Yobe South.
Speaking at the gathering, Mazagane disclosed that the new members included 500 former APC members, 1,300 members of the ADC and 225 members of the NDP.
He urged both the new defectors and existing PDP members to remain committed to the party and avoid being intimidated as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.
“We are here to create awareness among you members as well as receive defectors into the People’s Democratic Party. Today we have 500 defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), 1,300 from the African Democratic Party (ADC) and 225 from the Nigeria Democratic Party”
He also encouraged members to maintain peace during the electioneering period and support candidates they believe can deliver development to their communities.
“We call on you, the defectors and the existing members of the party to stay focused and not to be intimidated. Vote for us at all levels; if elected, we promise to create jobs for youths and empower women,” he said.
Mazagane, who is also seeking election to the House of Representatives to represent the Potiskum/Nangere Federal Constituency, promised to prioritise employment opportunities for young people if elected.
He further urged party supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and remain focused as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
