Exploring Kravice Falls, Bosnia And Herzegovina

0

Kravice Falls, also known as Kravica Waterfall, is a large cascading waterfall covered with tuff deposits, located on the Trebižat River in the karstic heartland of Herzegovina, which is part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

With a height of 25 meters (80 feet), the waterfall has a lake at the base which is 120 meters (390 feet) in radius, making it a very popular spot during the summer months for those who would like to swim a bit in this paradise.

Compared sometimes to the great Iguazu Falls from Brazil and Argentina, however, Kravice Falls are less visited, and less known, which makes them one unspoiled spot of perfect natural beauty.

A swing rope has been added for an even greater impression which the locals would like to give the visitors, there is also a bar on the banks of the falls, classic mill and old sailing ship moored in the lake at the base.

The most fascinating naturalistic features of Kravice are the tuff limestone deposits which are covered with grass, moss and lichen, and there can be seen chaste tree, figs and poplars that grow around the waterfalls, making it look like more of an Eden.

The best time to visit the falls is in spring time when everything gets greener and the water level of the falls is at its fullest. In addition, near the Kravice Falls, there is a small grotto that can be also explored, as it is filled with stalactites made of calcium carbonate.

Getting there is always easier from Mostar, however, there are tourist groups that are coming too from Medjugorje and Dubrovnik.

If one would want to see the greatness of the waterfalls when there is nobody or there are less people, then that should be done in the morning when it is also the best time to take photos of the stupendous Kravice, however, it is also nice to visit it in the evenings when there is still natural light.

Nevertheless, there is a hope that the falls will be left unspoiled as they are for a little bit longer time, even though more people would discover them with the will to get there.

Full House In Lisbon As Super Eagles Tackle Ronaldo, Portugal

Head Coach José Santos Peseiro has the full compliment of invited players as three-time African champions Nigeria get set for what could be a fiery international friendly with Portugal in Lisbon on Thursday.

In camp are goalkeepers Francis Uzoho, Maduka Okoye and Adebayo Adeleye, defenders William Ekong, Chidozie Awaziem, Kevin Akpoguma, Calvin Bassey, Tyronne Ebuehi, Bruno Onyemaechi, Bright Osayi-Samuel and Ebube Duru, as well as midfielders Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo, Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi and Joseph Ayodele-Aribo.

There are also forwards Moses Simon, Cyriel Dessers, Terem Moffi, Paul Onuachu, Emmanuel Dennis and Ademola Lookman. Forward Samuel Chukwueze was being expected on Tuesday night.

Thursday’s encounter at the 50,000 -capacity Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon is the first-ever full international between both countries, and it promises fireworks with Portugal heading to the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar the following day and Nigeria eager to blood a corp of new frontliners after narrowly failing to make the train to Qatar.

Top scorer Victor Osimhen is out injured but Peseiro can still call on on-fire Belgium-based Onuachu, the nifty Dessers, dependable Moses Simon, France-based Moffi and the Italy-based winger Lookman.

Portugal, 1966 FIFA World Cup bronze medallists and champions of Europe six years ago, will no doubt roll out their full arsenal, including five-time Ballon D’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo – unarguably one of the best to have played the game.

Messi Cicks Brazil, France, England As World Cup Favourites

International Friendly – Argentina Training – Al Nahyan Stadium, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – November 14, 2022 Argentina’s Lionel Messi during training

Argentina’s Lionel Messi picks out Brazil, France and England as the biggest threats to his dream of finally adding a World Cup winners’ medal to his bulging trophy cabinet.

The 35-year-old Paris St Germain forward will again shoulder Argentina’s hopes in Qatar as they bid to deliver the South American country’s third world title and first since 1986.

“Whenever we talk about candidates, we always talk about the same teams,” Messi told South American Federation Conmebol.

“If I have to put some above others I think Brazil, France and England are a little bit above the rest. But the World Cup is so difficult and so complicated that anything can happen.”

Messi reached the final with Argentina in 2014 but suffered an extra-time defeat by Germany.

Copa American champions Argentina are unbeaten in 35 games and if this is to be Messi’s final World Cup, they are in the form to deliver the title.

“We are very excited. We have a very nice group that is very eager, but we think about going little by little,” he said.

“We hope to start the World Cup in the best way to face everything that comes after. The more you play and the more time you spend on the pitch, the more you get to know each other.”

Argentina’s opening Group C match is against Saudi Arabia before they face Mexico and Poland.

FIFA Boss Infantino Urges World Cup Ceasefire In Ukraine

FIFA President Gianni Infantino waits ahead of a working lunch at the G20 Summit on November 15, 2022 in Nusa Dua, Indonesia. The new British Prime Minister aims to articulate his foreign policy vision here while grappling with economic instability at home.

The chief of soccer’s world governing body FIFA issued a plea on Tuesday for a ceasefire in the war in Ukraine for the duration of the World Cup, calling for all sides to use the tournament as a “positive trigger” to work towards a resolution.

Speaking during a lunch with leaders of the Group of 20 (G20) major economies on the Indonesian island of Bali, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the month-long World Cup, which starts in Qatar on Sunday, offered a unique platform for peace.

“My plea to all of you, to think on a temporary ceasefire for one month for the duration of the World Cup, or at least the implementation of some humanitarian corridors or anything that could lead to the resumption of dialogue as a first step to peace,” Infantino said.

“You’re the world leaders, you have the ability to influence the course of history. Football and the World Cup are offering you and the world a unique platform of unity and peace all over the world.”

The World Cup takes place from Nov 20 to Dec. 18 in Qatar, which is the first Middle East country to host soccer’s showpiece event.

Russia reached the quarter-finals of the last World Cup in 2018 but has been barred from this tournament over its invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine came close to qualifying for Qatar but lost out to Wales in a deciding playoff in June.

Infantino noted Russia hosted the 2018 edition and Ukraine is bidding to hold the 2030 contest, while as many as 5.5 billion people are expected to watch this year’s event, which could give a message of hope.

“Maybe the current World Cup, starting in five days can be that positive trigger,” he added.

There will be 32 teams competing in Qatar, from former winners Brazil, Germany, Argentina, France and Spain to Japan, Senegal, Costa Rica and Saudi Arabia, with 64 matches in total.

Senegal’s Mane To Miss First Games Of World Cup

Senegal forward Sadio Mane will miss the “first games” of the World Cup in Qatar due to injury, a Senegal soccer federation official was quoted as saying by local media on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old striker was named last week in Senegal’s 26-man squad for the World Cup, which starts on Sunday, despite picking up an injury to his right fibula playing for Bayern Munich in the run-up to the tournament.

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse said Mane, whose decisive penalties secured the Africa Cup of Nations title and World Cup qualification for his country this year, did not require surgery but hopes of him lining up against the Netherlands on Nov. 21 appear slim.

“We will have to rely on playing the first games without Sadio and win without Sadio because we have 25 players apart from Sadio,” official Abdoulaye Sow said.

“No one would have wanted it, but that’s what’s happened to us.”

Senegal also face hosts Qatar on Nov. 25 and Ecuador on Nov. 29 in World Cup Group A.

Donald Trump has announced he will run for the United States presidency again in 2024 despite facing multiple criminal investigations and the poor performance of the candidates he backed in last week’s midterm elections.

Trump launched the bid — his third for the presidency — on Tuesday evening at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, a week after elections in which Republicans failed to win as many seats in Congress as they had hoped.

In a speech broadcast live on US television, Trump spoke to hundreds of supporters in a ballroom decorated with several chandeliers and lined with dozens of American flags.

“In order to make America great again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” the 76-year-old told the cheering crowd of donors and longtime supporters.

“I am running because I believe the world has not yet seen the true glory of what this nation can be,” he said.

“We will again put America first,” he added.

780,000-Year-Old Remains Of Huge Carp-Like Fish Discovered In Northern Israel

0

Human beings used fire to cook food hundreds of thousands of years earlier than previously thought, an Israeli-led group of researchers have suggested.

They found evidence in the 780,000-year-old remains of a huge carp-like fish discovered in northern Israel.

The scientists noted “the transition from eating raw food to eating cooked food had dramatic implications for human development and behaviour”.

The previous earliest evidence of cooking dated from about 170,000 BC.

The remains of the two-metre (6.5ft) fish were found at the Gesher Benot Yaaqob archaeological site which spans the River Jordan about 14km (8.5 miles) north of the Sea of Galilee .

Researchers led by Dr Irit Zohar of Tel Aviv University studied crystals from the enamel of the fish’s teeth, which were found in large quantities at the site.

The way the crystals had expanded was a sign that they had not been exposed to direct fire, but cooked at a lower temperature.

“Gaining the skill required to cook food marks a significant evolutionary advance, as it provided an additional means for making optimal use of available food resources,” said Professor Naama Goren-Inbar from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, who directed the excavation.

“It is even possible that cooking was not limited to fish, but also included various types of animals and plants.”

The scientists determined that the fish once populated the ancient Hula Lake which existed at the site until it was drained in the 1950s to try to eradicate malaria-carrying mosquitoes.

Other archaeological evidence found at the site indicates it was inhabited by groups of hunter-gatherers for tens of thousands of years.

The team believe the location of such freshwater areas offers a clue to the route followed by early man on its migration out of Africa to the Levant and further afield.

The latest findings came from a joint study involving scientists from Israeli, British and German institutions.

Netherlands To Ban Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) From January

0

The Dutch government is banning the use of nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, amid concerns over the health risks for the growing number of young people using it.

The ban, which starts in January, makes it illegal to buy, sell or own the gas.

However, the authorities say it can still be used for medicinal purposes and in the food industry.

The government also hopes the ban will reduce the number of road traffic accidents involving the drug.

According to road safety monitor TeamAlert, laughing gas has played a role in 1,800 accidents across the Netherlands over the past three years.

The popular legal high has grown in popularity amongst clubbers and festival-goers in recent years, and is often used in combination with other drugs like MDMA (ecstasy) or ketamine.

The gas is mostly sold in small metal canisters, which are emptied into balloons before it is inhaled.

According to the Trimbos Institute, more than 37% of Dutch party-goers use laughing gas on a regular basis – mostly young people.

But there are serious concerns about the impact the depressant-type drug has on the brain and the body’s response. Heavy regular use can also lead to a vitamin deficiency that can cause permanent nerve damage and lasting paralysis.

“The recreational use of nitrous oxide leads to enormous health risks,” State Secretary for Health, Welfare and Sport Maarten van Ooijen said, as the government decision was announced.

Justice Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz said the ban would enable the police to take immediate action if they found someone with nitrous oxide gas canisters in their vehicle.

Concerns about the growing popularity of the drug goes beyond the Netherlands.

In England, it is the most commonly misused substance (after cannabis) among 16- to 24-year-olds.

Last month, the UK Home Office faced calls to ban all direct consumer sales of the gas, over concerns about its misuse.

It has become widely and easily available for recreational use, as it can be legally bought and sold for the purpose of making whipped cream.

Nitrous oxide is regularly used in big canisters as an anaesthetic inhaled by patients at hospitals and dental surgeries.
