WTT Rankings: Aruna Quadri Drops One Spot

0

The latest World Table Tennis rankings released in the early hours of Tuesday indicate that Nigeria’s table tennis star Aruna Quadri has dropped one spot.

The Germany-based player posted not a too-impressive performance in the recent WTT championship in Macao and Xinxiang.

Quadri crashed out of both tournaments in the round of 32 and his poor form was one of the reasons he dropped in the rankings.

The Nigeria star who ranked 14th in the previous ranking is now ranked 15th in the world with 1745 as the points accumulation.

Chelsea Legend, Drogba Labels Osimhen Complete Striker

2

Cote d’l voire and Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba has described Victor Osimhen as a complete striker.

Osimhen has hugged the headlines for his impressive scoring form for Serie A club, Napoli this season.

The 23-year-old scored a hat-trick in Napoli’s 4-0 drubbing of Sassuolo last weekend.

It was his first hat-trick for the Parthenopeans.

Drogba made the assertion while reacting to a video clip on Twitter.

In the video, Osimhen unselfishly gave the ball to his Napoli teammate, Khivicha Kvaratskhelia to score from the penalty spot in a UEFA Champions League clash against Ajax last month.

Kvaratskhelia didn’t disappoint the Nigerian as he slotted the ball into the net to put the Partenopei 3-1 ahead in the game.

Osimhen later capitalized on Daley Blind’s howler to score Napoli’s fourth goal in the 89th minute.

Reacting to Osimhen’s gesture, Drogba wrote on his Twitter handle: That’s a complete striker: unselfishness…the real meaning of ‘win as A TEAM’ “!!!@victorosimhen9#fuoriclasse.”

France International Paul Pogba To Miss World Cup

0

France midfielder Paul Pogba will miss their World Cup title defence after failing to recover from knee surgery in time for next month’s tournament in Qatar, his agent said on Monday.

Pogba had an operation on a damaged meniscus in September but his agent said that, following a medical review, he would not be able to return to the Juventus squad or join up with France before the Nov. 20-Dec. 18 World Cup.

“Following yesterday and today’s medical review in Torino and Pittsburgh, it is extremely painful to inform (you that) Paul Pogba will still need recovery time from his surgery,” his agent Rafaela Pimenta said.

“For this reason, Paul will not be able to join the Juventus squad before the World Cup break nor the French national team in Qatar. If wishful thinking would change things, Paul would be playing tomorrow.”

The 29-year-old Pogba’s hopes of returning to action with Juve before the World Cup were shot down early last month when manager Massimiliano Allegri said the Italian club would realistically get him back only in January.

Pogba moved back to Juve in the close season after his contract with Manchester United expired but he has yet to feature for the Serie A club after sustaining the knee injury during their pre-season tour.

Juve released a statement saying “in light of the recent radiological examinations… (Pogba) needs to continue his rehabilitation program.”

France had already lost Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante, who was ruled out for four months after having an operation on a hamstring injury this month.

Pogba was one of France’s most influential players in their 2018 World Cup triumph, scoring in the final victory over Croatia as they won the title for the second time.

France, who are in Group D at this year’s World Cup, begin their campaign against Australia on Nov. 22 before playing Denmark and Tunisia.

2023 Census: Population Commission Launches E-Recruitment Portal

0

Nigeria’s National Population Commission (NPC), has launched an e-recruitment portal for the successful conduct of the Population and Housing Census scheduled to hold in April 2023.

This was held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja the nation’s capital.

According to the NPC Chairman, Nasir Kwarra, this will remove the huge logistics of moving personnel across the country.

He also said that most of the personnel for the 2023 census would be drawn from the communities where they are residents.

“Consequently, every community will have the opportunity of contributing to the census workforce thereby ensuring that the people are adequately counted.

“The gigantic task of conducting the accurate and reliable census requires the recruitment of manpower that will carry out the exercise”.

He said the commission’s commitment to fairness and transparency in the recruitment process led to the introduction of the online e-recruitment portal, adding that this aims to train the officers that will superintend over the census recruitment process.

“The Commission will through the online recruitment process request for applicants from the following categories of field staff that will be needed to prosecute the next Census: Facilitators, Training Centre Administrators, Monitoring and Evaluations Officers, Data Quality Managers, Data Quality Assistants, Supervisors, Enumerators.

“The number of functionaries to be recruited in each category will depend on the number of available vacancies in each State, which will be derived largely from the total number of Enumeration Areas (EA) in the States

“The launching of the online e-recruitment portal for the 2023 census at the headquarters marks the beginning of the online recruitment process whereby Nigerians from all demography and gender can hook on to the website that will be provided by the Commission to fill the online form and get themselves registered to be recruited.

“Let me use this opportunity to assure Nigerians that the bulk of personnel for the 2023 Census will be drawn from the communities where they are resident. This will remove the huge logistics of moving personnel across the country.

“Consequently, every community will have the opportunity of contributing to the census workforce thereby ensuring that the people are adequately counted.

“I want to use this occasion to promise Nigerians that the Commission is on course and will continue to be fair and transparent as we approach the 2023 Population and Housing Census.”

Stakeholders expressed readiness to partner with the Commission toward achieving a credible Census.

The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Garba Abari, noted that Nigeria is a big country with a huge population and for everyone to be counted requires large human resources, assuring the agencies support to ensure a credible 2023 census.

He stressed the need for experiences in capacity to be deployed and called on Nigerians to avail themselves for the exercise just as he assured that Nigeria is safe for both the 2023 general election and the population and Housing census.

“Nigeria is safe, we would have elections, we would have census and Nigeria will remain peace, ” he stated

Also, the Postmaster General, Sunday Adepoju, noted that proper preparation prevents poor performance, expressing confidence in the NPC to conduct a credible election come 2023.

Adepoju added that the population exercise is as important as the existence of the nation and without a proper census the nation cannot move forward, stressing that the census data is key to planning for both educational, health, and many other needs of the citizenry.

“This can be achieved by having the right calibre of people that will go to all parts of the country. With this e-recruitment strategy of the Commission Nigeria will have credible data and the postal service is ready and committed to support the exercise because the next government will plan the nation well based on the data from the population census exercise,” he said.

The Director of Employment and Wages at the Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Gloria Ndifon, said e-recruitment is the new development and digital is what rules the world, and while commending the Commission for giving youths job digitally she said it will enable them gain experience and have better bargaining power for future engagements.

Also, the representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ann Aderibigbe, lauded the e-recruitment portal saying this serves as a challenge to other agencies to embrace digitization to enable accuracy as the NPC is on the right track.

Giving an overview of the e-recruitment portal, the Census Manager, Inuwa Jalingo, said the e-recruitment aims to recruit staff who will work in all areas in the six geo-political zones, and from all communities to enable adequate coverage of every citizen, disclosing that the exercise will require over 25 million Nigerians to apply as Adhoc staff.

Meanwhile, the Director Public Affairs Department at the NPC, Dr Isiaka Yahaya, explained that the exercise is not just recruitment but a key preparatory activity for the 2023 census, adding that it is a stakeholders’ engagements activity which will enable a National census with accurate data for national planning.

The Commission decorated stakeholders from the NOA, NIPOST, INEC, NIMC, NYSC Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, and NBS as Ambassadors of the 2023 census to join the league of Governors and President Muhammadu Buhari who had also been decorated as Ambassadors.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Acting Resident Electoral Commissioner Niger state, Yakubu Duku who commended the effort of the Population commission in its preparation for the 2023 census, said the success of the National Population and Housing Census is of great importance and that INEC would contribute positively to ensure its success.

Equally the Acting Director National Orientation Agency in Niger State, Yahaya Ibrahim said that the agency would ensure that every household in the state participates in the forthcoming Population and Housing Census to achieve maximum benefits.

Corps Members To Undergo Fitness Test – NYSC

0

The National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) in Nigeria says prospective Corps Members will henceforth undergo a fitness test at Clinics in Orientation Camps across the country with effect from the 2022 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course.

In a statement by the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa explained that this has become necessary “In order to avail the Scheme credible information on their health status and also protect them from exploitation by unscrupulous persons.

“It is pertinent to note that the NYSC Orientation Camp Clinics across the nation are managed by the National Health Insurance Authority with the supervision of Consultants from tertiary health institutions.“

He also said that “In view of the regimentation and physical demands of some activities of the NYSC Orientation programme, the management of the Scheme introduced presentation of Certificate of Fitness from recognised public health facilities by prospective Corps Members as a requirement for registration at the Orientation Camp.

“The essence was to enable Camp Officials manage those who are not fit to undertake certain activities in the Camp. This has been largely misunderstood, leading to extortion of some prospective Corps Members by fraudulent individuals in their bid to secure such documents some of which may not stand a test of integrity.“

He, therefore, called on Prospective Corps Members to note this information for compliance.

Mega further urged Nigerians to visit NYSC Social Media Platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Registration portal, website and telegraph for up-to-date information on the scheme’s activities and programme.

Meanwhile, NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Muhammad Fadah has wished all Prospective Corps Members safe journey to their respective Orientation Camps as the Scheme commences the 2022 Batch ‘C’ Stream One Orientation Course.
