Champions League: PSG Director Breaks Silence On Mbappe Wanting To Leave Club

0

Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting director, Luis Campos, has debunked speculations that Kylian Mbappe has asked to leave the club in January.

Campos spoke out ahead of their Champions League clash with Benfica on Tuesday.

He was reacting to multiple reports that Mbappe feels betrayed by the Ligue 1 champions.

Speaking to Canal+, Campos said: “I am here to clearly deny, he (Mbappé) did not speak to me or to my president about leaving in January.

“This question never came up and we never talked about it. There are rumours every day, and we can’t talk about them every day.

“But this one, it is serious. Because my name is there. An impact on the locker room? No, they are experienced players. It’s not real news anyway, and it’s not going to disrupt the group.

He added: “We speak with Kylian every day, as with Neymar, Danilo, Vitinha and Verratti. All the players have their ideas and we discuss. On recruitment, we talked about it a month ago. It was very clear. And today, we work every day to be stronger.”

Chelsea Beat 10-Man Milan To Top Champions League Group E

Chelsea took a big step towards the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday with a 2-0 win at AC Milan which took them top of Group E.

Graham Potter’s side took control at a packed San Siro against a Milan team who had to play most of the match with 10 men after Fikayo Tomori was controversially handed an early straight red card.

The clash was turned on its head in the 18th minute when former Blues man Tomori was sent off for pulling back Mason Mount in the area.

Italy midfielder Jorginho slotted home the resulting penalty and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s cool finish 11 minutes before the break ended Milan’s resistance and put Chelsea one point ahead of Salzburg at the head of the group.

Two straight defeats to Chelsea leave Milan third but they still have more than a fighting chance of making the knockout stages for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

Stefano Pioli’s side are ony two points away from the qualification places and a trip to Dinamo Zagreb and the visit of Salzburg will decide their fate in the competition.

An already scrappy, bad-tempered affair exploded when referee Daniel Siebert dismissed Tomori and gave a penalty to Chelsea after the England defender pulled back Mount who had been brilliantly put through by Reece James.

Tomori could barely believe his eyes when he was sent off and both Mount and Olivier Giroud were booked in the shoving that followed amid deafening jeers from the home supporters.

Jorginho opening the scoring three minutes later further irritated Italy fans after his spot-kick misses cost their national team qualification for the upcoming World Cup.

Olivier Giroud nearly levelled against his old club with a header that whistled just past the post in the 27th minute, but Aubameyang soon made sure Chelsea had an iron grip on the match.

Mount was again involved as he played through both Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling, but it was the Gabon striker who got there first and calmly finished at Ciprian Tatarusanu’s near post.

The Blues’ second, Aubameyang’s third in as many matches, completely took the wind out of Milan’s sales but to their credit they did try to force the issue in the second half.

Sergino Dest could have pulled one back for the hosts on the hour mark but he slashed an awful effort into the stands when Rafael Leao shot down the left flank and sent over an inviting cross with which the American should have done better.

From there Chelsea were content to keep the ball and take the sting out of a match which had long since been decided.

ASUU Meets Thursday Over Suspension Of Strike

0

The striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will convene emergency National Executive Council, NEC meeting on Thursday, to review recent developments, especially the positive response from the federal government to its demands.

Preparatory to the meeting expected to take place at its headquarters in Abuja, the union has directed its zonal branches to collate the views of members through vote during the meetings expected to hold tomorrow in its various zones across the country.

The outcome of the meeting would result in suspension of the strike on late Thursday or Friday morning.

This came as report had emerge in the social media space earlier on Tuesday, claiming that the union had called off the almost 8-month old strike and subsequently directed members to resume academic activities on October 17.

ASUU president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, while responding to enquiry to that effect, dismissed the report, saying the strike was yet to be suspended.

He, however, said the union was working towards the suspension of the action, saying the action would be dependent on the views of members from the zonal meetings.

The latest action of the lecturers’union came following the intervention of the Speaker of the House of Representatives,Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

The Speaker had on Monday, after a meeting with ASUU president and other members, assured that the strike would be suspended very soon, saying his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari over the union’s action was fruitful.

Earlier, human rights lawyer and counsel to ASUU, Femi Falana,SAN, had also said the union would soon call off its nearly eight-month old strike.

Lagos Govt Reiterates Importance Of Skill Acquisition In Schools

0

Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, has emphasised the need for school administrators to empower their students by imparting them with skills.

The commissioner made the call at the 95th Founder’s Day celebration of Queens College Lagos, on Monday.

Adefisayo maintained that exposing students to skills would make them “more creative and imaginative”

She advised that the girl-child learns a skill that they can leverage after their secondary and tertiary education.

“People have high tendencies to learn new skills at early ages, and when exposed to new experiences through skills development, they become more creative and imaginative.

“No matter the level of education given, it is essential that the girl-child learns a skill as something to fall back on after graduation from secondary and tertiary institutions.

“There is a need for the government to invest more in Queens College, Yaba, because there are great potentials here,’’ she said.

Adefisyo further stated that the school had produced great women including the first female Vice Chancellor in Nigeria, late Prof. Grace Alele-Williams, and the newly-appointed first female Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola.

England Ban More Than 1,300 Fans  From World Cup

0

More than 1,300 fans from England and Wales with banning orders will not be allowed to travel to Qatar for this year’s World Cup, the UK’s Home Office has said.

The new measures, which come into effect from Friday, prevent supporters with a history of soccer-related violence from making the trip to the sport’s showpiece event, which kicks off on Nov. 20 and runs till Dec. 18.

“We will not let the behaviour of a minority of lawbreakers tarnish what will be an exciting tournament,” said Home Secretary Suella Braverman.

Last season witnessed a sharp rise in pitch invasions and crowd trouble across English soccer, with the Premier League introducing enhanced safety measures to control misbehaviour ahead of the new campaign.

The Home Office warned that fans flouting the rules could face six months in prison and an unlimited fine.

Any person who has “previously caused trouble and is deemed likely to do so again” will also be banned from travelling.

“Violence, abuse and disorder is not tolerated here, and this criminal behaviour will not be tolerated at the World Cup which is why we are taking this firm approach,” added Braverman.

Visitors to Dubai’s latest landmark, Museum of the Future, will be greeted by the “most advanced humanoid robot in the world,” organizers said on Monday.

The artificial intelligence-powered Ameca, manufactured by the England-based Engineered Arts, is described as a perfect platform for human-robot interaction. Her “smooth, lifelike motion and advanced facial expression capabilities means Ameca can strike an instant rapport with anybody,” the manufacturer’s website said.

Museum of the Future introduced Ameca as the latest staff member joining the museum on her first day, as seen in an Instagram video.

Speaking in Emirati dialect, she tells her human counterpart, “Don’t worry, I will not replace you.”

Open since February, Museum of the Future has received international acclaim in the global architectural scene for its unique torus-shaped pillarless design adorned with Arabic calligraphy.

The structure houses a series of interactive and advanced exhibitions that give visitors the chance to experience future technologies.

Upon its opening, organizers said the museum would act as a platform for innovators, scientists and industry leaders who can share their vision of the future.

What Happens to Your Body When You Eat Blueberries Every Day

0

With their gorgeous blue hue and satisfyingly sweet taste, blueberries are one fruit many people can agree is a welcomed addition to their meals, snacks, and fruity cocktails or mocktails. And as a registered dietitian, I can certainly get behind the goal of eating blueberries every day. The benefits of blueberries are plenty: Between the natural fiber these beautiful blebs contain, the sweet taste they provide with no added sugar, and the boost of antioxidants they naturally house, as a clinician, I would be hard-pressed to find any major downside to including these berries in most diets—especially if they are added to a balanced and healthy diet, and they are consumed in an appropriate serving size.

There are a variety of blueberries to choose from, including highbush and wild lowbush. And while there are slight differences among the different types, including the size, flavor, and antioxidant content, you can rest assured that you will be consuming many important nutrients, regardless of which type you choose, including fiber, iron, vitamin K, and vitamin C.

What makes blueberries so unique is that they contain anthocyanin, a natural pigment that acts as an antioxidant. Wild blueberries have 33% more anthocyanins than ordinary blueberries, but all blueberries do contain a significant boost of this natural compound. Anthocyanins have been linked to having anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer effects. It has also been linked to a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease development.

If you choose to eat blueberries every day, here are some benefits of blueberries you can experience. Read on, and for more, don’t miss 7 Fruits You Should Be Eating Every Day.

You may experience improved cognitive health.

No matter what your age is, research suggests that anthocyanins (the pigment found in blueberries) may help to improve cognitive function. For children, data shows that 7 to 10-year-olds performed cognitive tasks better after consuming a wild blueberry drink than when they did not. And a positive effect on working memory has been seen among older adults who consume anthocyanins as well. Specifically, data has shown that consuming wild blueberries every day for six months improved cognitive aging by improving the speed of information processing in older adults.

Researchers suggest that anthocyanins may decrease inflammation, improve blood flow, and increase communication between cells in the brain, possibly explaining why these berries are so impactful on brain health.

You may have a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S., and while there are many factors that can play into our risk of developing this condition, our dietary choices may play into one piece of the puzzle. Data shows that foods that are rich in anthocyanins (the pigment that gives blueberries their blue color) are associated with a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease.

One study showed that eating around 1 cup of blueberries daily reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease by up to 15 percent among a study population. And who wouldn’t be happy to eat a cup of blueberries every day?

You may have improved glucose management.

One of the benefits of blueberries is improved post-meal glucose management, potentially because of the fruit’s effects on the digestive system. Plus, a study looking at three different groups of anthocyanins found that blueberries may help to induce insulin secretion (which is a common problem for people with type 2 diabetes).

You may have lower blood pressure.

Reducing sodium intake may be the darling of the blood pressure-reducing steps, but eating blueberries deserves some attention in this department too. In an eight-week study, people with a high risk of heart disease and who had obesity experienced a 4–6% reduction in blood pressure after consuming freeze-dried blueberries every day for eight weeks.

Pregnant women may have a reduced risk of developing gestational diabetes.

Developing gestational diabetes can occur for various reasons, some being completely out of a person’s control. But some data suggests that dietary choices may impact some people’s risk of developing this condition.

Specifically, data suggests that pregnant women who ate 280 grams of blueberries every day, along with 12 grams of supplemental soluble fiber resulted in a reduced risk of developing gestational diabetes. Maternal weight gain was significantly less among those who ate the blueberries and fiber supplement vs. those who did not.
