0

World champion Tyson Fury issued a public challenge on Monday to Anthony Joshua to fight a ‘Battle of Britain’ for the WBC heavyweight boxing belt.

Joshua, 32, suffered a second straight loss to Ukraine’s WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO champion Oleksandr Usyk in a title rematch in Saudi Arabia last month and has said he wants to return to the ring before the end of the year.

Fury announced last April that he was fulfilling a promise to his wife to retire but has subsequently said he will fight again.

“I think you’ve all heard that I am going to be fighting soon within the next few months,” Fury said in a video directed at the former champion on social media.

“Anthony Joshua, I know you’ve just lost a fight to Usyk and you’re bout-less at the moment, and I’d like to give you an opportunity to fight me for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world and the lineal championship in the next few months

“You’re coming off a 12-round fight, so you’re match fit, you’re ready. I’m giving you a few months’ notice,” added the 34-year-old.

Usyk said after the fight in Jeddah that he was only interested in a bout with Fury but media reports have said he will not fight again this year in order to rest and spend time with his family.

“If you’re interested I’ll send you the date over and we can rumble,” Fury told Joshua in the video.

“A Battle of Britain for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world. Let me know if you’re interested, if not I will select another opponent.

Fifty Years On, Germany Asks For Forgiveness Over 1972 Munich Games Attacks

Wreath are placed during a ceremony, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the attack on the Israeli team at the 1972 Munich Olympics in which eleven Israelis, a German policeman and five of the Palestinian gunmen died takes place near the Olympic village in Munich, Germany, September 5, 2022.

Germany’s president asked for forgiveness on Monday for his country’s failure to protect Israeli athletes and team memberswho were murdered 50 years ago at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

“We cannot make right what happened,” Frank-Walter Steinmeier told a gathering including relatives of the dead and Israeli officials during commemorations at the airfield where a failed rescue attempt took place.

Palestinians from the Black September militant group took members of the Israeli Olympic team hostage on Sept. 5, 1972.

Eleven Israelis, a German policeman and five of the Palestinian gunmen died after a stand-off at the Olympic village and the nearby Fuerstenfeldbruck airfield.

Steinmeier said Germany should shoulder its share of responsibilities for the “catastrophic” failures to protect the athletes and for taking decades to compensate the victims’ families.

“I am ashamed. As head of state of this country and in the name of the Federal Republic of Germany I ask for forgiveness for insufficient protection of the athletes, for insufficient resolution of this matter,” Steinmeier said

“We also bear responsibility as hosts for not preventing what we should have prevented.”

The Games continued in 1972 after the attacks and the IOC took almost half a century to comply with families requests for an official act of remembrance at a Games.

It finally held a moment of silence and mentioned the Munich victims at last year’s Tokyo summer Olympics opening ceremony.

Ankie Spitzer, whose husband Andre, an Israeli fencing coach, was killed in the attacks, addressed him in her speech. “Please forgive me Andre that it took me so long,” she said.

“Although we are finally reaching our goals after 50 years at the end of the day you are still gone and nothing can change that.

“Everybody is asking me now if I feel closure. They don’t understand that there will never be closure. The hole in my heart will never, never heal,” Spitzer said.

Families had threatened to boycott the event following disagreements over the size of Germany’s compensation offer.

The dispute was resolved after Germany’s government and the Israeli families agreed on Friday on a package worth a total of 28 million euros ($27.77 million).

As flags across all state buildings in the Bavarian capital flew at half-mast, Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Steinmeier laid a wreath at the site.

“The decision to take responsibility for the failures surrounding and following the massacre, to allow for an objective and rigorous inquiry, and to compensate the victims’ families is part of that sanctification of the good and triumph over evil,” Herzog said.

The ceremony was attended by International Olympic Committee (IOC) chief Thomas Bach and other officials.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said on Monday that he was certain Spain and Portugal will host the 2030 World Cup.

The two countries signed an agreement in 2020 to push ahead with a joint bid to host the tournament and made it official in June.

“I am sure that the 2030 World Cup will be played in Spain and Portugal,” Ceferin said via videoconference during the opening of the Football Talks international congress in Lisbon on Monday.

“This bid is a winning one and we will do everything possible to help two countries that are passionate, live and breathe football and that have a good infrastructure.”

A total of 14 stadiums in 12 cities have been offered to be among the 11 Spanish venues expected to host matches if the Iberian bid is successful at the FIFA ballot in May 2024. Portugal will put up three stadiums for consideration.

Spain hosted the 1982 World Cup and launched a failed bid along with Portugal to stage the 2018 tournament, which was awarded to Russia. Portugal has never staged the World Cup but did hold the 2004 European Championship.

Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay have announced a South American four-way bid which could have sentimental value as Uruguay hosted the inaugural World Cup in 1930.

The United Kingdom’s four associations did contemplate a joint bid along with Ireland while Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece and Romania also planned a joint bid, although they were both dropped.

According to him, Nigerian universities should work on ways to develop products from farm produce that cannot be preserved.

Meanwhile, Adewunmi explained that the Council was an agency of the Federal Government, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.

She noted that the agency was vested with the mandate to promote the development and utilisation of Nigeria’s industrial raw materials, while reiterating support for the institution in its efforts to promote development of the country.

Shea butter is a seed fat that comes from the shea tree, found in East and West tropical Africa.

The shea butter comes from two oily kernels within the shea tree seed. After the kernel is removed from the seed, it is grounded into a powder and boiled in water. The butter then rises to the top of the water and becomes solid.

Shea butter works like an emollient, which helps soften and smoothen dry skin. It also contains substances that can reduce skin swelling and help treat conditions associated with skin swelling such as eczema.

Iran’s Regime Caught Seeking Nuclear Weapons Technology In Sweden

0

A new Swedish intelligence report accuses the Islamic Republic of Iran of illegal attempts to secure nuclear weapons technology in the Scandinavian nation during 2021.

The Swedish document places new question marks over the efficacy of the controversial Iran nuclear deal that rewards the clerical regime with up to $275 billion in economic benefits during the first year of an agreement and as much as $1 trillion by 2030, according to one estimate.

The formal name for the intelligence report—the Swedish Security Yearbook—revealed “Iran also conducts industrial espionage such as primarily aimed at Swedish high-tech industry and Swedish products that can be used in a nuclear weapons program.”

The 80-page intelligence report which lists national security threats to Sweden noted “Iranian intelligence officers act, among other things, under diplomatic cover in Sweden.”

A spokesman for the Swedish Security Service said, “The Swedish Security Service considers Iran to be one of the three countries that poses the gravest security threat to Sweden and Swedish interests.

The other two being Russia and China.”

When asked about the nature of Iran’s efforts to secure illicit nuclear weapons technology, the spokesman said, “As a national security service much of our information derives from classified intelligence. We are unable to go in to more detail other than is stated in the Yearbook.”

Chile Voters Overwhelmingly Reject radical Constitution

0

Voters in Chile have overwhelmingly rejected a new constitution which was due to replace the one drawn up under Gen Augusto Pinochet’s military rule.

In a referendum, almost 62% voted against the progressive draft and the margin of the defeat is much larger than opinion polls had suggested.

Chile’s President Gabriel Boric, who had backed the new constitution, said he would work with Congress and civil society to come up with a “new constitutional process”.

He said he would continue working to reach a proposal that would “fill us with confidence and unite us all”.

The process to replace Chile’s military rule era constitution started three years ago after mass protests rocked the nation, which is normally seen as a haven of stability in the region.

Almost 80% of Chileans voted in favour of replacing the old constitution in a referendum in October 2020.

But the new document, drafted by a constitutional convention whose members had been chosen by voters, proved too radical for many.

The now-rejected draft would also have changed many of Chile’s institutions, such as replacing the Senate with a Chamber of Regions.

It also included key demands by women’s groups such as as the right to abortion and requiring by law that women hold at least 50% of positions in official institutions.

While opinion polls had predicted a “no” vote, the overwhelming rejection – 61.9% against compared with 38.1% in favour of the new constitution – is a slap in the face for President Boric.
