Raheem Sterling: Chelsea Target Manchester City Winger

0

Chelsea are targeting Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling as their major summer signing.

Sterling’s Manchester City future is in doubt as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

The England forward, 27, has attracted interest from major clubs overseas but Chelsea believe they can persuade him to remain in the Premier League.

The Blues have the obvious attraction of being in the Champions League for the London-born player.

Sterling scored 13 goals in 30 Premier League appearances as he won his fourth title last term.

However, he was on the bench for both legs of the Champions League semi-final defeat by Real Madrid and the epic final game of the season against Aston Villa.

Sterling did spark that memorable last-day comeback by setting up Ilkay Gundogan’s crucial first goal as Pep Guardiola’s side came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 and pip Liverpool to the Premier League.

Manchester United Chief Executive Richard Arnold Heads Off Protest As He Meets Fans In Pub

0

Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold headed off a planned protest outside his Cheshire house by meeting some fans in his local pub.

Arnold, club’s most senior executive discovered the supporters had met up in the pub before their protest and went to meet them instead.

Part of the discussion was secretly filmed and posted on social media.

Arnold, 51, appears to be filmed saying United had “burned” through £1bn on players over the past few years.

He also says the money that new manager Erik ten Hag and director of football John Murtough want to spend on new players “is there”.

It is understood talks are continuing with Barcelona over Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who is Ten Hag’s number one summer transfer target.

United have not won the Premier League since 2013 and last won a trophy in 2017. They finished last season in sixth place, having sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and replaced him with interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

Arnold described last season as “a nightmare” but he also criticised the fan protests that were held at many of the club’s final home games of the season.

Fans held various protests against the Glazer family’s ownership of the Old Trafford club last season at home games and the training ground.

In May 2021, protests by fans led to their Premier League home game against Liverpool. being postponed.

It followed United’s decision, along with five fellow Premier League clubs, to join the European Super League (ESL) the previous month before subsequently all pulling out.

In January 2020, then executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward’s Cheshire home was attacked by fans.

Arnold became CEO on 1 February 2022, following the exit of Woodward.

0

Joe Aribo is not thinking about a move away from Rangers despite several reports linking him with clubs in England

Aribo has been linked with a reunion with former boss, Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa.

Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace and Brentford are also reported to be interested in the versatile midfielder, who enjoyed a successful season in Glasgow.

The talented Nigerian won the Scottish Cup with the Gers and scored in the UEFA Europa League final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.

With Aribo entering the final year of his contract, Rangers may look to cash in during the transfer window, however, he refuses to dwell on his future and rumours about a move to the Premier League.

“With all that stuff I don’t really read into it and I just focus on my football, because you can’t have distractions as it won’t allow you to play the best and be the best that you want to be,” the 25-year-old told BBC Sports Africa.

“Which is obviously what I want to be every time I play. I just want to be focused and ready to go.”

Aribo has scored 26 goals and recorded 25 assists in 148 appearances since arriving at Rangers from Charlton Athletic in 2019.

Naomi Osaka Withdraws From Wimbledon Due To Achilles Injury

0

Tennis phenom Naomi Osaka apparently withdrew from Wimbledon on Saturday due to an Achilles injury. Osaka sent out a tweet saying, “See you next time,” which prompted speculation she wouldn’t take part in Wimbledon.

Osaka did not specifically mention withdrawing or Wimbledon in her statement. It appears, however, that she won’t play at the tournament

It marks the second straight year in which she has pulled out of the event. Osaka missed Wimbledon in 2021 while taking care of her mental health. The tournament was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning Osaka has not participated at Wimbledon since 2019.

Osaka revealed her Achilles trouble in early June, when she tweeted out a video of her on an underwater treadmill. In the tweet, Osaka said her “Achilles is being stubborn.”

Osaka took part in the French Open in late May, but lost in the first round.

Before that loss, Osaka said she might not take part in Wimbledon in 2022. The tournament will not have ranking points this year, and Osaka said she was worried about being able to hype herself up if Wimbledon felt more like an exhibition.

JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede Urges ASUU To End Strike Action

0

The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Ishaq Oloyede has urged the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off the ongoing industrial action by the university lecturers in the country.

Oloyede, who made the call in Ilorin, Kwara State, North Central Nigeria, described the ongoing industrial strike action by ASUU members as unnecessary.

He said that incessant strike action by unions in the nation’s tertiary institutions was capable of causing irreparable damage on not just the students but also the nation. He, therefore, urged both the government and the unions to find ways of putting an end to the “unnecessary strike action”.

He acknowledged the fact that the primary responsibility of reasonable and adequate funding for public health and education institutions lies solely on the Government.

Oloyede, called on the employers as well as university-based labour unions to value the irreparable damage of incessant strikes on not just the students but also the nation at large.

Exploring Jabłonowski Palace Poland, Built For Antoni Barnaba Jabłonowski

0

The Jabłonowski Palace is a historic palace that served at one time as a City Hall for the capital city of the Republic of Poland, Warsaw.

Located more precisely in the center of the city at Theater Square, the first sources that confirm the construction of this interesting palace date from 18 century, where it was constructed between 1773 and 1785.

The people who designed the building were the Polish architect of Italian origin, Jakub Fontana, and the Italian-Polish architect, Domenico Merlini.

The palace was built for Antoni Barnaba Jabłonowski, who was a Polish noble and political activist.

Unfortunately, throughout the years, the palace was severely damaged and reconstructed over and over again, where in January 1863, during the what is known as the January Uprising, the Jabłonowski Palace was damaged by fire that was set by demonstrating Polish patriots.

Jablonowski Palace, the former Town Hall; Warsaw, Poland

Soon after, there was a partial reconstruction in Neo-Renaissance style which gave new shape to the roof and new balconies, in addition to a new wing and a tower with three clocks were added to the previous design.

Still, the palace did not see some peaceful times, as it was once again destroyed during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, but this time by the German forces who were storming through Poland on their way to Russia.

Finally, the last reconstruction project came in 1990s, when the building was once again rebuilt, however, this time the main building follows the architectural plans that are dating before 1936, but the rest of the façades have got a far more interesting and contemporary look.

Fortunately, some of the old furniture that was saved from all of the destruction, nowadays is exhibited at the Gate Tower, which explains more in details the sad destiny the Jabłonowski Palace had.
