Stephen Baldwin Celebrates Baptizing Mother Before Her Death, Praises Her Example Of Jesus

0

The matriarch of the famous Baldwin family, Carol Baldwin, died at 92, and her son, Stephen Baldwin, said he will see her again, as he had the honour of baptizing her.

According to her eldest son, Alec Baldwin, Carol Baldwin died in Syracuse, New York, this month. Her youngest son, Stephen Baldwin, took to social media with a post dedicated to his mother. He, however, spoke of Carol’s spiritual impact and shared an intimate moment he and his wife, Kenya, shared with his late mom.

“August 4th, 2014, this was the day I knew for sure I would never have to worry about my mom again,” the Baldwin son said on social media.

The post showed a photo of Carol Baldwin emerging from the water in Skaneateles Lake in 2014 after asking Baldwin and his wife to baptize her.

“When my mom made this request, I told my wife, ‘No worries we’ll do it on our next trip.’ But Kenya said, ‘No my love we will baptize her tomorrow,” he explained.

Baldwin said “thank God” for his wife’s encouragement and his mother’s willingness to be baptized.

In Christianity, baptism is seen as an act of identifying Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, memorializing the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. It’s an ordinance “immediately instituted by Christ himself in Matt. 28:19, 20, and designed to be observed in the Church till He come.”

“Thank God for the bold and courageous women in my life,” Baldwin shared.

His gratitude went “most of all to my mom who in our friendship we didn’t have to say much as we are similar in our desire to love and serve others.”

Baldwin added, “Thanks mom I might not have found Jesus without your loving example of humility, grace and unconditional love!!! I’m grateful to God that I will see you again.”

“The Least of These” actor ended his post by asking his mother to “say hi” to his aunt Louise and father.

Alec Baldwin’s obituary on social media noted that along with her six children, Carol Baldwin and her late husband, Alexander Rae Baldwin Jr., had 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Rwandan Education Minister Tasks Schools to Intensify Battle Against Genocide Ideology

0

The Minister of Education in Rwanda, Valentine Uwamariya, says schools should take the lead in fighting genocide ideology and deniers considering that they accommodate a big number of youth that is targeted.

She was speaking at the 28th commemoration event to honour over 8,000 Tutsis who were killed in Petit Séminaire Saint Vincent de Ndera during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The genocide victims in this school include priests, seminary students, employees and thousands of other Tutsi from different areas who had come to seek refuge in Petit Séminaire Saint Vincent de Ndera.

The Education Minister said that the Ndi Umunyarwanda programme is a primary tool which schools should use to prepare a generation with values that build a unified and peaceful country.

Ndi Umunyarwanda programme was initiated in 2013, with an ultimate goal of building a national identity and to foster a Rwandan community that is based on trust and unity.

The programme is inspired by the desire to build a strong, united society after it was torn apart during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi

It was initiated as a way to strengthen the solidarity of the people, uphold their moral and spiritual values, as well as make them understand their fundamental rights as Rwandans.

Considering that the regime that planned and executed 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, used schools to spread genocide ideology and divide Rwandans, Uwamariya said the schools should learn a lesson from the history and take a lead in ensuring genocide never happens again.

she said those who are denying the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi are using social media and therefore urged the youth to also use social media in telling the truth about genocide against the Tutsi as a way of fighting against genocide deniers and genocide ideology,

Survivor’s testimony at Petit Séminaire Saint Vincent de Ndera

Adrien Hategekimana is a genocide survivor who survived in Petit Séminaire Saint Vincent de Ndera.

She testified that discrimination against the Tutsi started in schools until 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

Hategekimana said that her family would spend many nights in bushes as they were always hunted and tortured as Tutsi.

Hategekimana said that despite having survived, what grieves her most is that she is not aware of the whereabouts of the priest who is her elder brother.

The President of the umbrella body of the survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Ibuka in Gasabo district, Theogene Kabagambire, said that apart from Gisozi memorial site, other sites house over 100,000 genocide victims in Gasabo districts.

Father Pascal Tuyisenge, Father Pascal Tuyisenge, rector of St. Vincent Ndera Minor Seminary said that commemoration is an important activity to learn and preserve genocide history adding that they are set to revamp the memorial site in Ndera.

Actor Blasts America’s Public Schools For Pushing Progressive Agendas

0

Award-winning actor Kirk Cameron blasted America’s public schools for becoming breeding grounds for far-left progressive agendas, including critical race theory, Nikole Hannah-Jones’ 1619 Project, and gender ideology.

“The problem is that public school systems have become so bad. It’s sad to say they’re doing more for grooming, for sexual chaos and the progressive left than any real educating about the things that most of us want to teach our kids,” he said in an interview. The solution to the problem, he said, was for parents to take the lead on their children’s education and teach them at home. To make the case, the award-winning actor referenced his upcoming movie, “The Homeschool Awakening.”

The movie follows the journey of about 17 homeschooling families who respond to misconceptions and stereotypes. In the film, Cameron also discusses his journey to homeschool his six children with his wife, Chelsea.

Cameron’s father, grandmother, and grandfather were teachers. He stressed that there are many excellent teachers in the U.S., but the school system is holding them back from being a “light in the darkness, [and] to pass on the kinds of values and virtues that made this the freest, strongest, most prosperous nation in the whole world.”

Cameron takes issue with the perspective that a child’s education should be left solely to the so-called experts, without parents’ input. “And that’s just a fundamental difference in the way that we look at. Who has been entrusted with the sacred responsibility of raising our children? Is it the parents or is it the government?”

He went on to strongly criticize “those who are rotting out the minds and souls of America’s children” and said they were “spreading a terminal disease, not education.”

“And you can take your pick. Just go down the list. The things that are destroying the family, destroying the church, destroying love for our great country: critical race theory, teaching kids to pick their pronouns and decide whether they want to be a boy or a girl, The 1619 Project,” he said.

Cameron said the “genesis” of creating, what would become a project that spanned over two years, was the novel coronavirus pandemic. At that time, he said, parents were finally starting to see the things schools were teaching their kids.

“If we send our children to Rome to be educated … we shouldn’t be surprised if they come back Romans,” Cameron said. “If we want them … to love God and love their neighbor and feel gratitude and thankful that they live in the United States of America, the freest country on earth, then you’ve got to teach them those things … I realized that there was no better way for our family to do that … then to bring them home and join in with this rich, robust community, with tons of curriculum to be able to have the flexibility and freedom to raise our kids the way we wanted them to be raised.”

2022 SSCE: NECO Extends Registration As Exam Commences June 27

0

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has extended the deadline for the registration of candidates for the 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for school based candidates.

The deadline which was earlier fixed for Monday, May 30, has now been extended to midnight of Monday June 20, 2022.

The head information and public relations division of the examination body, Azeez Sani, announced the extension in a statement released to local media.

Sani, however, did not give specific reasons for the extension, but insisted that the new deadline will be sacrosanct.

The statement added that the examination is scheduled to commence on June 27, 2022, and end on Friday, August 12, 2022.

By the statement, the examination body enjoined State ministries of education, principals, commandants and all stakeholders, to note that there would be no further extension after that.

The 2022 NECO Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) will commence on 27th June, 2022 and end on Friday 12th August, 2022.

The statement further noted that candidates are to be examined in 76 subjects in the examination.

The school-based candidates are currently taking part in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) being conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Insecurity: Actionaid Urges Government To Promote Insurance For Smallholder Farmers

0

ActionAid and other stakeholders have urged the Federal and state governments to promote insurance for smallholder farmers across the country to mitigate agricultural risks confronting farmers.

According to the stakeholders, the challenges that are posing threat to farmers’ lives and crop production are floods, droughts, fires, pests and diseases, cattle destruction of farms, rising insecurity in farms and kidnappings.

They made the call in a communique issued on Monday, in Abuja at the end of the Non-State Actors (NSAs), Post National Dialogue and Dissemination on Nigeria’s Performance at the 3rd Biennial Review (BR).

It was reported that the exercise is on the Implementation of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).

The dialogue is organised by ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) to provide information and capacity for CSOs, Smallholder Women Farmers (SWOFON) and media networks to better engage the post 3rd BR process and emerging policy issues.

The communique observed that farms were abandoned due to security threats and natural disasters.

According to the communique, making farms safe and funding agricultural mechanisation will not only create more food but also jobs to engage restless youths that have turned to crime for a living.

The stakeholders called on federal and state executives to scale up public investment in agriculture and ensure timely consideration, passage and total budget releases.

It also described the measure as a strategic approach to increase food production, reduce hunger and poverty and achieve the Maputo/Malabo Commitments of allocation of 10 per cent annual budget to agriculture.

“Public investment in agriculture should be scaled up in the specific areas of extension services, access to credit, women and youths in agriculture, appropriate labour-saving technologies, irrigation and Climate Resilient Sustainable Agriculture ((CRSA).

“Other areas are inputs, postharvest losses reduction supports (processing facilities, storage facilities, trainings and market access), agroecology, research and development, monitoring and evaluation, as well as coordination,” the communique said.

The communique observed that federal and states’ annual budgetary allocations and expenditure performances remained low in quantity and quality, falling below the Maputo/Malabo Declaration minimum of 10 per cent.

“Regrettably, the late passage of budget and release of fund continue to impede capacity of federal and state governments, drive socio-economic development, including food security within diversification of the economy towards agriculture.”

The communique observed that based on the 3rd BR, Nigeria was on track in the commitment on halving poverty through agriculture by 2025, while the reality on ground suggested otherwise.

It said that the reality was anchored on the need to improve on the fragile reported progress in the commitment on halving poverty through agriculture by 2025.

“The real outcomes and impacts will translate into improvements in food price, poverty rate, nutrition status, access to agricultural finance and agricultural value addition.

“Nigeria is reported not to be on track in the following commitments: Recommitment to the Principles and Values of the CAADP Process, Enhancing Investment Financing in Agriculture.

“Other commitments are Ending Hunger by 2025, Enhancing Resilience to Climate Variability and Enhancing Mutual Accountability for Actions and Results,’’ it said.

Artist Carne Griffiths To Release 70 Prints Of ‘The Platinum Queen’

In a London studio, British artist Carne Griffiths adds the final fluorescent pink touches to “The Platinum Queen”, a portrait depicting the young Queen Elizabeth shortly before her coronation almost seven decades ago.

Griffiths, known for using materials such as tea and ink in his work, is releasing 70 limited edition prints – as well as artist proofs – to mark the monarch’s Platinum Jubilee, one for each year of her historic reign.

Based on an original painting sold last year, each piece is made with layers that include diamond dust and platinum leaf.

“I thought this was a poignant moment to capture ‘the Queen’ just at the point where she was about to ascend to the throne,” he told newsmen.

“And whilst I painted the piece, I tried to imagine … what kind of things she would be contemplating at the start of her reign.”

Elizabeth, Britain’s longest-reigning and currently the world’s oldest monarch, became queen on Feb. 6, 1952, on the death of her father King George VI. Her coronation took place on June 2, 1953.

Four days of celebratory events will begin on June 2 with the queen, 96, planning to attend several.

Priced at 1,550 pounds ($1,960), Griffiths’ prints go on sale on June 4 on the West Contemporary Editions online platform, with 150 pounds from each sale going to the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Children’s Charity.

The cause is one close to Griffiths’ heart after the hospital treated his newborn daughter in 2012.

Griffiths’ original sold for 25,000 pounds at a fundraiser in December, with proceeds also going to GOSH.

Former Presidential Candidate In Egypt Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison For Disseminating Fake News

0

A criminal court in Egypt has sentenced a former presidential candidate to 15 years in prison with hard labour.

Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, who is 70 and in poor health, was convicted along with an interim leader of the proscribed Muslim Brotherhood group, Mahmoud Ezzat, of disseminating fake news and joining a terrorist group – both are blanket charges.

Mr Aboul Fotouh was arrested in 2018 upon his return from Britain.

While in London, he gave several media interviews in which he criticised President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi’s rule.

The defendants can appeal their sentences.

Rochas Okorocha Pleads Non-guilty As He appears In Court

0

Presidential aspirant of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party has appeared in court to face corruption charges.

Rochas Okorocha is accused of stealing and money laundering involving 2.9 billion naira ($7m; £5.5m) of public funds between 2014 and 2016 when he was the governor of the south-eastern state of Imo.

He pleaded not guilty on Monday.

Okorocha – who is a serving senator – was arrested last week by Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

His supporters say the arrest was an attempt to frustrate his presidential ambition.

The APC is expected to hold primaries later this week to choose its presidential candidate.

The elections are due in February next year.

The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) picked former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as its candidate on Saturday.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s second and final term is due to end in May next year.
