While thousands of Nigerians seek greener pastures abroad with many seeking to be citizens of other countries, the country also entertains hundreds of requests from foreigners seeking to be citizens of the West African country.
A total of 286 foreigners were Wednesday granted citizenship by the Nigerian government, an official said.
Rauf Aregbesola, the interior minister, said Wednesday that the 286 positive applicants were less than half of those that applied. His information ministry counterpart, Lai Mohammed, said the applications show that things are not as bad in Nigeria as being painted.
Speaking at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting, Aregbesola said the government received 600 applications for citizenship from foreigners.
He said the applicants included Americans, Europeans, North and South Koreans and Australians.
Although Aregbesola did not provide the list of the new Nigerians or of the applicants, he said 208 of those approved were granted citizenship by naturalization, while 78 others were granted citizenship by registration.
“The Ministry of Interior through me presented the Advisory Committee on Nigeria citizenship approval to the Council today. And it’s the first set. By the end of this first quarter or latest by the middle of the year, another set will be presented to council.
“We received 600 applications from several people, foreign nationals who have been residing in Nigeria, but desirous of being Nigerians.
“These applicants are from virtually every part of the world. Americans, North and South Korean, Australians, Europeans, Arabs, Asians, all over of the South Africans. Out of the 600 applicants, the advisory committee approved for the consideration of the council, 286.”
The announcement by the Nigeria Football Federation to extend the interim regime of Austin Eguavoen has technically aborted the engagement of Portugal’s Jose Peseiro who was late in December announced as the new Super Eagles’ manager.
At the time, he was to assume duties after the Africa Cup of Nations in which he was to an obserer status.
With the Africa Cup of Nations over and with just weeks to Super Eagles’ main assignment of qualifying for the World Cup which he was supposed to supretend, the job suddenly everporated.
He took to his twiiter handle to express his feelings. Peseiro has not been very active on twitters even though he has nearly 106 thousand followers, he last twitted on 30 Novemeber last year before his current tweet in which he posted a statement in his native Portuguese.
Peseiro indicated that there were disagreements regarding the contractual clause and financial matters.
The google translation of the post reads: “After several weeks of negotiations, a period during which several news came out, from the Nigerian Football Federation, since I would be the coach for their selection, from the end of CAN’2021, a fact that I never confirmed, these did not materialize due to disagreement regarding contractual clauses and financial matters”.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has said that Nigeria currently has 20 days sufficiency of petrol, and advised against panic buying.
The regulatory agency said it was also working round the clock to address the challenge thrown up by the importation of substandard petrol into the country.
Fuel scarcity has hit major cities in Abuja and Lagos this week, and the government said Tuesday it had discovered a recently bought stock contained excessively high methanol above Nigeria specification.
The regulatory agency on Wednesday met with marketers in Lagos in a bid to raise distribution and remove the substandard fuel from supply chain.
The chief executive of the agency, Farouk Ahmed, attended the meeting, as well as top officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd., the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) and the Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN).
Ahmed said a technical team was working on resolving the issue. He said the government has a 10-day shortage in its fuel reserve.
He said, “Today, I am happy to say that loading has been going on in most of the depots because we have been able to identify, isolate and quarantine the limited amount of gasoline that was affected by the methanol volume that was discovered.
“We have vessels that have arrived the country recently.”
“At least six arrived in the last few days ordered by the NNPC carrying a total volume of close to 300 million litres just to close to gap created by those vessels we have withdrawn from the system,” he said.
“All in all, as at today, we have about 20 days sufficiency of PMS in the country. Our ideal days of sufficiency is 30 but the withdrawal of the vessel created the gap in our 30 days sufficiency.
The House of Representatives has urged the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to regulate activities of online drug advertisers and sellers in Nigeria. This call was made by Rep. Onofiok Luke (PDP-Akwa-Ibom) on Tuesday in Abuja. There is a need to regulate online advertisers and sellers of drugs, noting that they are delivering marketing messages to an unidentified and intended audience.
“Online advertisement has become increasingly important to business owners and service providers across the world because it was cost-efficient.
The Rep added that online vendors had capitalised on free access to the internet and social media platforms to advertise and sell unregistered and sometimes fake drugs to unsuspecting members of the public.
He added that Nigerians were being enticed into buying drugs ranging from dietary supplements, cholesterol-lowering medicine including tramadol and aspirin to viagra among others
The lawmaker said that the drugs were usually purchased without a doctor’s prescription or pharmacist’s advice.
He noted that the law requires that advertisement of any drug or related product should be accurate, complete, clear, and designed to promote credibility and trust to the public.
The House called on the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria to liaise with online advertising companies like Google, Facebook, Twitter among others to monitor, control and enforce standards.
The House also urged the Pharmacists Council of Nigerian to sanction and prosecute individuals engaging in the sales and promotion of medicine online without requisite authorisation in line with the law.
The House also urged the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to take necessary action toward protecting consumers of online drugs.
Kamaru Usman went under the knife on Monday to repair a hand injury, UFC president Dna White confirmed after posting gruesome images of the welterweight king’s paw during surgery.
Usman, 34, broke his right hand just three weeks prior to his UFC 268 clash with Colby Covington last November, but opted not to delay the bout and went on to win by unanimous decision.
The Nigerian Nightmare endured a superb 2021, fighting and defending his welterweight title on three separate occasions, but his hand injury makes it unlikely that he will be as active in 2022.
And UFC chief White has provided an update to fans on Twitter sharing images of Usman’s hand being prised open as surgeons sought to help fix his injury.
‘Pound for pound best fighter in the world @USMAN84kg had hand ligament surgery today. This is the before and after. See you soon CHAMP,’ he tweeted alongside the gruesome pictures of the UFC star’s hand.
The 34-year-old’s next move remains clouded by uncertainty. Britain’s Leon Edwards is the leading contender to challenge Usman for his title, having enjoyed an 11-fight unbeaten streak.
Yet Usman’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, has hinted that his fighter may move up and challenge at a heavier weight class.
The Nigerian Nightmare recently said he would be interested in challenging for the 205-pound title, while Abdelaziz has suggested Usman could take on friend and middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
Adesanya, 32, defends his 185-pound belt at UFC 271 this weekend against Robert Whittaker, with the Australian entering this mouthwatering clash off the back of wins over Darren Till, Jared Cannonier and Kelvin Gastelum.
Senegal’s President Macky Sall welcomes the Senegal National Soccer Team upon their arrival after their Africa Cup win, at the Leopold Sedar Senghor Airport, in Dakar, Senegal February 7, 2022.
President Macky Sall of Senegal awarded a special cash prize, prime real estate, and the country’s highest order to the men’s soccer team as the country continued to celebrate their victory in Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations final against Egypt.
Senegal’s first win of the coveted trophy it has been chasing for 60 years has led to an outpouring of joy and celebrations since the 4-2 triumph in a penalty kick shootout.
Tens of thousands lined the streets of the capital Dakar from early in the morning on Monday to await the arrival of the victorious team. A ticker-tape parade through the streets went into the early hours of Tuesday.
Senegal came close to winning the trophy twice, losing to Algeria in the 2019 final and to Cameroon in the 2002 final.
Hundreds lined the surrounding avenues and streets of the presidential palace in downtown Dakar on Tuesday evening for a reception to thank the players.
Sall awarded the players Senegal’s highest order, making them Grand Officers of the National Order of the Lion.
“In addition, as a token of gratitude, and on behalf of the nation, the players and other members of the official delegation will each receive a special bonus of 50 million franc CFA ($87,412) and a 200 square metre plot of land in Dakar,” Sall said.
He added that they would also receive a 500 square metre plot for a commemorative estate in Diamniadio, a new futuristic economic and industrial hub around 45 km from Dakar where a new national soccer stadium will be inaugurated on Feb. 22.
A Maryland woman who recently turned 100 years old attributes her long life to God’s goodness.
Martha Bailey, who lives in Prince George’s County, was born in 1922 and grew up in Virginia. She spent much of her younger days singing in church.
Nowadays, Bailey is considered the pillar of her family and someone who shares sound advice from the Bible. According to local reporters, Bailey has one daughter, five grandchildren, and dozens of great-grandchildren.
“I think she is absolutely wonderful, she also has a great sense of humor, too,” her daughter, Diane Stratton, told the outlet.
“It’s a huge blessing, and we are thankful we have our mom that long. She is doing very well, she is not wheelchair-bound or anything,” she continued. “We are just thankful to God. It’s a blessing.”
While Stratton attributed her mother’s longevity to never consuming alcohol nor smoking, Bailey pointed to God in celebrating her centennial birthday.
“The secret is the grace of God living in me and me trying to live the best life that I could,” she said. “The secret is loving the Lord.”
According to CBN News, Evangelist Franklin Graham became aware of Bailey’s story, and he commended her faith and wished her a happy birthday.
“Mrs. Martha Bailey just turned 100 years old, and she still looks great and gets around on her own without a wheelchair!” Graham wrote on social media.
“I would say that’s a great recipe for life! Happy 100th Birthday, Mrs. Bailey—and we hope you have many more! God bless you!” he added.
Bailey isn’t the only one who praised God for reaching 100 years of age. A Texas pastor and World War II veteran credited the Lord for making it to 100.
“I believe I’m going to go to 112 (years old), but I’m ready to go anytime,” Pastor Jack Hetzel of Big Sandy United Methodist Church told Tyler Morning Telegraph last November. “God has been so good to me to live 100 years.”

Body butters and body lotions are products that people apply to maintain moisture in the skin. Body lotion is more practical for regular use, but body butter has a more intensive function.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both body butter and body lotion. One type of moisturizer may be more appropriate depending on the situation and skin type.
The main things to know for these products are:
Body butter is better for rougher skin that needs a more intensive moisturizer.
Body butter is often more natural, whereas lotions are more refined.
Body lotion is not as thick, so it spreads more easily and absorbs into the skin faster.
Body Butter vs. Body Lotion
Body butter and Body lotion are both emollient products that people apply to soften and smooth the texture of their skin.
Body butter is a skin moisturizer that uses fats as raw materials. Manufacturers use Shea Butter as the main ingredient, a type of fat that comes from the Butyrospermum parkii plant.
Other fat products that can go into body butter includes cocoa, palm, olive, avocado, jojoba, e.t.c
How often a person should apply body butter depends on the condition of their skin. If the skin is dry or cracked, it may be best to apply body butter daily. However, if the skin is oily or does not need such frequent use, people may wish to limit use to one to two times each week or to use as needed.
Body lotion has a higher water content than body butter. It is an oil-in-water emulsion, meaning manufacturers distribute oil into the water. This method makes body lotions lighter than body butter, which makes them easier to apply.
Body lotions can vary slightly depending on what manufacturers have designed them for. Some types specifically target the face, while others are for more widespread use on the body.
Body lotion is more appropriate for regular use. A study from 2017 suggests applying moisturizers such as body lotion to the skin between one and three times each day, depending on the severity of the dryness. The study also found that only half of the moisturizer remains on the skin after 8 hours.
What are the differences?
The main difference between body butter and body lotion is that body butter mostly contains natural fats, whereas body lotion goes through more processing stages and contains more water.
Body butter can be a preferable option in certain situations. Research has found that body butter is often appropriate for sensitive skin and can ease dry skin conditions, such as mild to moderate eczema, in 2 weeks.
However, body lotion has the advantage of a higher water content, making the product easier to spread. It also enables fast absorption into the skin. Because it is lighter, body lotion is also less likely to clog pores than body butter.
What are the Similarities?
Body butter and lotions are moisturizers made to help smoothen and soften the skin and reduce fine lines. These products give the appearance of healthy skin, which can benefit a person’s self-esteem and quality of life.
Moisturizers are particularly useful when easing the symptoms of dry skin, which can include: itching, pain, stinging, tightness, tingling and so on
Can the two be combine?
Both moisturizers have similar functions, but they vary slightly in intensity.
As each product serves the same function, to rehydrate the skin, there would be little point in using both body butter and lotion at the same time.
However, a person may choose to alternate products, using body butter when the skin is drier than usual, but sticking to lotion for regular use.
Are they both effective for sensitive skin?
Body butter and Body lotion should be appropriate for sensitive skin, depending on the formula.
For example, a 2018 study of 34 female participants found that shea butter did not cause any complications for those with sensitive skin. These results may be due to the rawness of the shea fat as the main ingredient. However, there are many body lotions that dermatologists have designed for sensitive skin, which are also appropriate.
Additionally, body butter may be better for dry skin types, as it is a thicker product.
Body lotions can be better for oily and combination skin as they are lighter on the pores. Additionally, lotions are better for areas of skin with more hair.
Outlook
Body butter can soothe dry and cracked skin, but it can also clog pores. Body lotion is not as intense, but it is useful in maintaining moisturized skin through regular use.
It is important to remember that a product may be effective for one person but not for another if they have different skin types.
A dermatologist can advise which treatment a person should use with skin conditions such as eczema or acne. Body butter may be less irritating for sensitive areas, but a heavier product may cause more damage than good when the skin is likely to break out.
Takeaway
Body Butter and Body Lotions are both types of moisturizers that a person can apply to the skin to keep it hydrated. Hydration gives the skin a more healthy appearance.
When deciding on a new skin care product, there are many things to think about. A key consideration is individual skin type.
Body butter tend to be more natural, as they are usually less processed, and use plant fats as the main ingredient. They are also more intensive as they are much thicker and take longer to absorb into the skin. However, it is best not to use body butter too frequently.
Body lotions have higher water content. They do not moisturize as effectively, but they are easier to spread, faster to absorb, and less likely to clog pores. People can use body lotion more frequently than body butter.
A person should contact a dermatologist if they have a skin condition and want to try a new product.
A bill seeking to raise the educational qualification for election into the office of the president has passed the second reading at the house of representatives.
The constitution amendment bill, which passed first reading last Tuesday, also seeks to raise the minimum academic qualification for election as a governor, state and federal legislator.
Sections 65, 106, 131 and 177 of the 1999 constitution state that a person must be qualified for election into the aforementioned elective offices if he/she “has been educated up to at least School Certificate level or its equivalent”.
