The Lagos State Government has announced the diversion of traffic along the National Theatre/Marina axis from Monday, 9th August 2021, for a duration of 221 days.

Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, who made the announcement through a release issued on Tuesday, assured that a robust Traffic Management Plan (TMP) has been prepared to ensure the safety of motorists and construction personnel during the exercise.

He said the TMP will address the impact of construction work on traffic and subsequently eliminate traffic-related issues.

Oladeinde explained further that the construction will involve both sides of the road respectively, pointing out that some of the work will be done simultaneously due to the nature of a few aspects of the construction project.

He also stated that motorists will be diverted during the construction work to the descending ramp of Ebute-Ero to link Marina Ring Road through a diversion point, hinting that traffic would also be diverted to Chapel Street along Apongbon to access Broad Street.

The Commissioner gave an assurance that traffic signs and temporary barriers will be mounted along the affected axis to guide motorists on movement during the course of the construction, revealing that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be available to ensure the safety of motorists and easy access to their destinations.

While commending Lagosians for their endurance and cooperation during the execution of various ongoing projects in the State, Oladeinde maintained that the exercise will result in transportation that is conducive for seamless commercial activities and the existence of relevant infrastructure to meet the needs of road users.

They were subsequently found by security operatives roaming the forest.

The students, according to a competent security source in Kaduna on Tuesday, were found roaming in the forest in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

A source said that the students after their escape were re-kidnapped by another gang of bandits who entered into negotiation with the parents.

According to the source, “They escaped from their abductors and were later found roaming inside the forest by troops.

“They were found in a forest in Chikun LGA, where they have been for days without food,” the source said, adding, “The students looked pale and sick.”

The students were kidnapped in the early hours of July 5, 2021, around 2am on the school premises along the Kaduna-Kachia Expressway, Damishi, Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

The first batch of 28 of the students had spent 20 days in the kidnappers’ den. Thereafter, another four of the students also escaped from their captors.

This was after payment of N50 million was made to the bandits which warranted the release of the first 28 students.

S.Korea says N.Korea wants sanctions eased to restart talks with U.S

North Korea wants international sanctions banning its metal exports and imports of refined fuel and other necessities lifted before it restarts denuclearisation talks with the United States, South Korean lawmakers said on Tuesday.
The North also has demanded the easing of sanctions on its imports of luxury goods to be able to bring in fine liquors and suits, the lawmakers said after being briefed by South Korea’s main intelligence agency.

The briefing came a week after the two Koreas restored hotlines that North Korea suspended a year ago.
North Korea’s state-run media made no mention on Tuesday of any new request for the lifting sanctions to restart talks.

The South Korea legislators said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in had both expressed a willingness to rebuild trust and improve ties since April, and Kim had asked to reconnect the hotlines.
They also said North Korea was in need of some 1 million tons of rice, as its economy was battered by the coronavirus pandemic and bad weather last year.

Nigeria’s F.G donates N5m to college students for inventing monitoring devices

Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, made the presentation on Tuesday in Abuja.
He commended the students for their efforts and assured that the ministry would patent the innovation through the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP).

According to him, the Sensebox and Aquabot devices developed by the students would help Nigeria to be a hub for creativity.
The minister stressed that Nigeria was on the path of meeting all her needs, relying less on import, and creating wealth for the nation.
Onu appealed to parents to motivate their children and inculcate the values of hard work, respect, and commitment in them.
He urged the students to fly the Nigerian flag high at the upcoming virtual Students for Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) competition, on Aug. 13.

European Super League: Barcelona, Real Madrid And Juventus ‘Will Continue With Plans’

0

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus say they will continue with plans for a European Super League, claiming to have successfully argued against any punishment by Uefa.

A joint statement from the three clubs said a court decision on Friday in Madrid means European football’s governing body have an “obligation” to terminate disciplinary proceedings against them.

Uefa paused action in June when the case was passed to the European Court of Justice.

Twelve clubs announced themselves as founder members of the Super League in April, but the proposed breakaway competition collapsed within 72 hours after nine withdrew amid fan protest, opposition from Uefa, Fifa and domestic leagues, as well as the British Government and the royal family.

Juve, Barca and Real are the only sides not to have renounced the breakaway league and have again reiterated their intention to “keep developing the Super League project”.

‘Confidence in the ESL remains’

English football fans, including Chelsea supporters, protested against their involvement in the European Super League

They added that they intend to do so by working with governing bodies, leagues, fans, players, managers and clubs – all stakeholders which opposed the breakaway competition when it was initially announced.

“Clubs participating in European competitions have the right to govern their own competitions,” the clubs continued in a statement.

“We are pleased that going forward we will no longer be subject to Uefa’s ongoing threats.

“We are aware that there are elements of our proposal that should be reviewed and, of course, can be improved through dialogue and consensus.

“We remain confident in the success of a project that will be always compliant with European Union laws.”

Uefa has declined to respond to the statement from the three clubs.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who was named as the ESL’s founding chairman, has previously said the 12 clubs that agreed to join a new European Super League have “binding contracts” and “cannot leave”.

Uefa told to ‘unwind action’ against clubs

The nine which have distanced themselves – Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid – were handed financial punishments by Uefa in May.

The six Premier League clubs also agreed to make a separate “goodwill’ payment” totalling £22m in June.

The trio that remain say European football’s governing body must now “unwind the actions taken against all” sides involved in the ESL.

“The court backs the request made by the promoters of the European Super League, dismisses Uefa’s appeal, and confirms its warning to Uefa that failure to comply with its ruling shall result in fines and potential criminal liability,” the clubs said.

“The case will be assessed by the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, which shall review Uefa’s monopolistic position over European football.”

Romelu Lukaku: Inter Reject Chelsea’s £85m Bid For Belgium Striker

0

nter Milan have rejected Chelsea’s £85m bid for striker Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku, 28, is at the head of Chelsea’s search for a new forward after Borussia Dortmund ruled out selling striker Erling Braut Haaland this summer amid interest from the Blues.

While Inter’s owners are wrestling with major financial issues, they are determined to keep hold of the Belgian.

Lukaku, a former Chelsea player, was a pivotal figure last season as Inter won their first Serie A title since 2010.

It is understood Chelsea were willing to include Spanish defender Marcos Alonso in the deal.

It remains to be seen whether the Champions League winners will make a higher offer, although Inter believe they are capable of resisting it and Lukaku has previously spoken about his intention to stay at the club.

Lukaku played 15 times during three seasons at Chelsea, between 2011 and 2014, but was sold to Everton after an impressive season on loan.

He came close to rejoining the club in 2017 but instead opted to link up with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United for £75m.

Lukaku scored 42 goals in 96 games for United, but left for Inter in 2019 for a club record fee of 80m euros (£74m) on a five-year deal.
