Two express trains collided in southern Pakistan early Monday, killing at least 30 passengers, as rescuers and villagers worked to pull injured people and more bodies from the wreckage.
Reports say between 15 to 20 passengers are still trapped in the wreckage of the Millat Express train and authorities were trying to arrange heavy machinery to rescue those people who are crying for help.
Umar Tufail, a police chief in Ghotki district in Sindh province, where the collision occurred before dawn.
Usman Abdullah, a deputy commissioner in Ghotki says the Millat Express derailed and the Sir Syed Express train hit it soon afterward. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the derailment and the subsequent collision.
Abdullah said so far 30 people had died. According to railway officials, about 1,100 passengers were on board the two trains, and arrangements were being made to help the surviving passengers.
According to local media, some of the passengers were traveling by the Millat Express train to attend a wedding party but it was unclear whether they were among the dead or injured.
TV footage showed ambulances transporting injured passengers to hospitals. According to Pakistani TV stations, heavy machinery had not reached the scene about four hours after the crash.
Officials at Pakistan railways said they had ordered an investigation and rescue work was still in progress.
Some of the injured passengers were listed in critical condition at a hospital.
A scaled-down replica of the Statue of Liberty began its trip from France to the United States on the back of a flat-bed truck on Monday, retracing the journey made over a century ago by its big sister, which now looks out over New York Harbour.
The replica, which stands at 2.83 meters (9.3 ft) tall, is being loaned by a Paris museum to the United States for 10 years to cement Franco-American friendship.
On Monday, workmen used a crane to gently lift the statue off its plinth in Paris. They then laid it on its back on the back of a truck, covered with plastic film for protection and wedged in with foam blocks.
Once in the United States, it will go on display in Washington D.C.
“Franco-American friendship will be marked under the sign of liberty,” said Olivier Faron, general administrator of Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers, the institution which oversees the museum. “A new era in relations between France and the United States will open up, that’s what we want.”
The larger version of the Statue of Liberty was given by France to the United States as a gift, and was completed and assembled in 1886.
The smaller replica was designed in 1878 by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the same sculptor who – with help from engineer Gustave Eiffel – created the larger version now in New York.
A South Korean court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by 85 victims of wartime forced labour seeking compensation from 16 Japanese firms, saying accepting the case might violate a 1965 treaty under international law.
The decision by the Seoul Central District Court is likely to frustrate victims and their supporters in South Korea but it will avert anger from Japan, which considers the issue of compensation for its actions during its 1910-45 rule of Korea closed.
The historic feud, including over so called comfort women, Japan’s euphemism for mostly Korean women forced to work in its wartime brothels, has long soured bilateral ties between the two important U.S. allies.
A 2018 South Korea Supreme Court ruling that the 1965 treaty, which normalised ties between the neighbours, did not terminate the former forced labourers’ right to seek reparation individually plunged relations between them into their worst crisis in decades.
A group of 85 South Koreans and their families sued 16 Japanese companies, including Nissan Chemical Corp and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd, in 2015, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp, demanding compensation totalling $7.73 million.
The Yonhap news agency said it was the largest claim among nearly two dozen cases involving forced labour victims but the Seoul court dismissed the suit, saying the 1965 pact covered victims’ right to damages and South Korea was bound by it.
Kang Gil, a lawyer for the victims, said the ruling was “unjust” as it contradicted the 2018 Supreme Court decision. Kang said they would appeal.
One of the best parts about makeup is that every look is completely adaptable. Precise and faultless methods do exist, but if you’re not too jazzed with the end result, there’s no need to break out the remover and start anew. Makeup is all about rolling with the punches.
For example, if you’ve messed up your cat eye, a quick touch-up with concealer can sharpen a jagged wing. Blush teetering into clown-like territory? Bounce your cheeks with a damp beauty sponge to pull out the excess product and if you’ve gone a little too heavy with the eye shadow: A quick “toasting” technique can tone down the pigment.
Here is how to revive a natural-looking shadow
All you’ll need is a large, fluffy eye shadow brush and a very light matte shadow that resembles, say, a slice of toast (one that’s just slightly crispy, not charred).
Load up your brush with the aforementioned matte shade and tap off the excess.
Now, for the “toasting” bit: Swirl the brush along the edge of your eye shadow to blend. It doesn’t have to be perfect—just buff the brush into your shadow to diffuse some of the pigment.
Keep blending in circular motions, moving upward toward your temple until you’ve reached your desired look. Repeat on the other eye.
The end result should read soft and muted while still keeping the integrity of your shadow. It really softens the edge of the eye shadow. This technique will make it a lot less harsh than would have been it.
Sweeping on a toasted hue can help cover up some of the concentrated color, scattering it out without becoming smoky. That way, you lose some of the intensity without compromising your intricate blend of hues.
Makeup artists have tons of tricks in their back pockets to “fix” a less-than-stellar result. Just as you can enhance the density of your shadow, you can also tone it down if you’ve packed on too much product. Just like it was earlier mentioned Makeup is utterly adaptable.
Clarence Williams III, the US actor who played Prince’s father in Purple Rain and also starred in 1960s show The Mod Squad, has died at the age of 81.
Prince’s estate paid tribute to him for his “gripping performance” as Prince’s abusive dad in the singer’s 1984 film.
The actor’s other roles included ageing manservant Maynard in Lee Daniels’ 2013 film The Butler.
Writing on Twitter, the director said he was an “extraordinary” actor who had been “ahead of his time”.
Prince’s drummer Sheila E also paid tribute, saying he had done an “incredible job” in Purple Rain and had been “one of the cool actors” she had watched on TV as a child.
Actress Kellie Martin was among others to remember him fondly, saying it had been “an honour” to work with him on the 2000s TV series Mystery Woman.
Born in New York in 1939, Williams was named, like his father, after his musician grandfather, a celebrated jazz pianist.
After serving in the US Air Force he started out on stage, earning a Tony nomination in 1965 for Slow Dance on the Killing Ground.
His big break came in 1968 when he was cast in The Mod Squad as Lincoln “Linc” Hayes, one of three former juvenile delinquents recruited as an undercover cop.
He starred alongside Michael Cole and the late Peggy Lipton in the ABC detective show, appearing in more than 120 episodes over the next five years.
ABC wanted him to stay on the show longer, but by 1973 he had had enough. “I’d done all I could with the part,” he told the Chicago Tribune in 1997.
“And so I said let me go back, refresh myself, learn some things, read, travel and just try to put some more arrows in my quiver.”
Yet he was persuaded to reprise his character – played by Omar Epps in the little-liked 1999 film reboot – in a 1979 TV movie that reunited the show’s original cast.
The actor went on to act in Twin Peaks, in which Lipton also appeared, as well as such films as The General’s Daughter, Reindeer Games and Johnny Depp’s The Brave.
Known for his signature gap-toothed smile and simmering intensity, he was nominated four times for the NAACP’s Image Awards.
“It’s not a 100-yard dash, it’s a long-distance run,” he said of his career in 1997. “You need patience, because you’re going for the distance.”
According to his representatives, the actor died of bowel cancer in Los Angeles on 4 June.
He was married once, to actress Gloria Foster, from 1967 to 1984. Foster went on to play The Oracle in the first two Matrix films before dying in 2001.

The South-East Governors Forum had on August 31, 2019, appointed Gen. Umahi as the chairman of the Committee.
The Committee was charged to draft a framework for the establishment of a South-East joint security outfit to cater to the security needs of the zone. Infighting among the South-East governors delayed the launch of the security outfit for the region. This created a vacuum that was exploited by the Indigenous People of Biafra which floated the Eastern Security Network aimed to help flush out criminals herdsmen kidnapping, raping and killing locals in the forest.
But Umahi in his resignation letter dated June 4, 2021, titled, “Resignation As Chairman South East Security Committee – Ebubeagu,” and addressed to the chairman of the South-East Governor’s Forum disclosed that his Committee was never funded neither was office provided for them through the duration.

“Additionally, I chaired a 21-man Committee set up to draft a legal framework for the SE Security outfit. The committee was composed of members of the SE Security committee, the Attorney Generals of the five South-East States and some prominent Igbo sons and daughters. Protein is a highly complex substance that is present in all living organisms. Proteins are of great nutritional value and are directly involved in the chemical processes essential for life. The importance of proteins was recognized by chemists in the early 19th century, including Swedish chemist, Jons Jacob Berzelius who in 1838 coined the term protein, a word derived from the Greek prōteios, meaning “holding first place.” Proteins are species-specific; that is, the proteins of one species differ from those of another species. They are also organ-specific; for instance, within a single organism, muscle proteins differ from those of the brain and liver.
Experts have encouraged that consuming about 150gm of protein per day is a great and a good amount for anyone who is looking to build muscles and lose body fat. Also the amount of protein varies from person to person since everyone has a different height, weight, goals, body type, etc.
Here are some food items you can add in your diet to get 150gm of protein,
Eggs: One whole egg will give you 6gm of protein, whereas one egg white will give you about 3.5gm of protein, hence you can safely consume about 1–2 whole eggs and egg whites daily to reach your protein requirement.
Kidney Beans: Also known as Rajma, a good combination of rajma (about 100gm) with a good amount of rice will give you a complete 12–15gm of protein in your meal. Since rajma are not a complete source of protein, hence integrate it with some rice or grains to complete the amino acid profile.
Chickpeas: Just like kidney beans chickpeas also come from the legumes family and are a great source of protein, apart from protein chickpeas also have a good amount of iron, magnesium, and other essential vitamins and minerals. Thus 100gm of chickpeas will give you a good 9–10gm of protein and you can increase the protein content by integrating some whole grains and rice with it.
Whey Protein: When it comes to meeting your daily protein requirement, whey protein has to be on the top of the list, as eating a food item, let’s say eating 8 egg whites will give you the same amount of protein, as eating 100gm of chicken breast which is around 22–23gm of protein, which again you have to get the food, cook it and eat it, now to make all this process easier, whey proteins are introduced which are made up form milk only, just taking one scoop of a good quality whey protein will give you about 24gm of complete protein, which is generally beneficial and easier to meet your daily protein requirement.
Also, whey protein is the fastest absorbable protein, which our body digests really fast, which is usually needed when after a workouts, thus the perfect source of protein that you can have post-workout is whey protein.
Soya chunks: When it comes to a cheap source of protein, soya chunks have to be on the top of the list. 100gm of soya chunks will give you a good 52gm of protein. Soya chunks as a food item is kind of debatable among a lot of people as some people say it tends to produce a lot of estrogen in their bodies which leads to hormonal imbalance, while some say it doesn’t affect them at all.
Hence the best thing that each and every person can do to get the best benefits from the soya chunks is to eat it in moderation, which is to have soya chunks around 50–80gm a day can never cause any problem from them. As soya chunks are one of the best sources of protein, which is high in protein and affordable as well.
Lentils (Green Moong): Green Moong is a great source of protein for everyone and for vegetarians alike. 100gm of green soaked Moong will give you a good amount of 22gm of protein. Also, it is not a complete source of protein but for beginners or even for the intermediate one, it is a great food to be incorporated in your diet daily.
Whole Grains: Whole grains like oats, rice, whole wheat, millets are a great source of complex carbohydrates that you can add in your diet daily to complete the missing amino acids from some protein sources. Along with protein, carbs they also provide a lot of essential vitamins and minerals and thus should be part of your diet.
Dry Fruits: Dry fruits are generally a good source of healthy fats but along with healthy fats they do provide a decent amount of protein as well, hence dry fruits like almonds, walnuts, and seeds like chia, pumpkin, etc will give you a decent of protein for about 6–8gm per serving. So, dry fruits and seeds should be part of your diet as they provide a decent of protein along with a good amount of healthy fats which is really important for your production of hormones.
Paneer: 100gm of paneer will give you a good 15gm of protein along with 18gm of fats as well, thus you can add paneer in your diet but make sure you don’t overdo it as it also high in fats as well. Thus strike the balance and eat it in moderation.
Tofu: Tofu is soya paneer which is derived from soya milk, which is rich in protein, as 100gm of tofu will give you a good 10gm of protein.
Chicken/Fish: Coming to the most used source of protein which you can add in your diet 3–4 times a week, as 100gm of chicken breast will give you a good 23gm of protein, and 100gm of fish will also provide you a good 22gm of protein which are complete sources of protein
So there you have it, some of the best available options that you can easily add to your diet in order to consume 150gm of protein, which you can vary from your food intake and your preferred goals.
Myanmar’s military junta will begin presenting its case against deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi in court next Monday, according to her Lawyers.
Khin Maung Zaw spoke to journalists after a procedural hearing on Monday for Suu Kyi and two fellow defendants, ousted President Win Myint and former Naypyitaw Mayor Myo Aung.
Suu Kyi’s supporters say the charges against her are politically motivated and are meant to discredit her and legitimize the military’s takeover. If convicted of any of the offenses, she could be banned from running in an election promised by the junta within one or two years of its takeover.
She and her two co-defendants are charged with spreading information that could cause public alarm or unrest.
Suu Kyi also faces two counts of violating the Natural Disaster Management Law for allegedly breaking COVID-19 pandemic restrictions during the 2020 election campaign.
A sixth charge that Suu Kyi faces is the most serious one: breaching the colonial-era Official Secrets Act, which carries a penalty of up to 14 years’ imprisonment.
It has been handled separately from the other charges and was filed in a court in Yangon, the country’s biggest city. It was recently transferred to the Union Supreme Court in Naypyitaw, said San Mar La Nyunt, another of her lawyers.
The military arrested Suu Kyi in February when it overthrew her elected government. Public resistance to the coup remains strong and in recent months has taken the form of a low-level armed insurrection.
Government prosecutors will have until June 28 to finish their presentation in the court in Naypyitaw, the capital, where she is being tried on five charges.
