Glowing red lava spewed Saturday from a volcano that has erupted near Iceland’s capital Reykjavik after being dormant for more than 900 years But officials said the eruption was small and did not appear to represent a danger to people. Dramatic images filmed by a coast guard helicopter showed streams of red lava bubbling and flowing out of a fissure in a valley in Geldingadalur, close to Mount Fagradalsfjall on the Reykjanes peninsula in southwestern Iceland. As the lava continued to flow on Saturday, clouds of blue gas were also swirling from the site, located just 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the capital and near the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, a popular tourist destination.
The eruption occurred on Friday around 2045 GMT, lighting up the night sky with acrimson glow, after hundreds of small earthquakes shook the area. While Iceland’s Keflavik International Airport and the small fishing port of Grindavik are just a few kilometres away, the zone is uninhabited and the eruption did not appear to present any danger. From Grindavik, steam could be seen rising from the area in between rain showers, an AFP reporter said.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 struck central Mexico on Friday, seismologists said, triggering alarms in the capital where anxious residents poured into the streets. No immediate reports of injuries or significant damage. The quake struck 59 kilometers (37 miles) southeast of San Marcos in Guerrero state at a depth of 19 kilometers, according to the national seismology service. The tremor triggered Mexico City’s alarm system, which uses seismic monitors to give residents advance warning of a quake.
But in the end it was barely felt in the capital, where city authorities said there were no reports of damage. In the resort of Acapulco, located in Guerrero state closer to the epicenter, the tremor was felt more strongly, causing tourists to flee their hotels. “It caught us off guard and we panicked thinking we should leave urgently but I couldn’t get out because one of my daughters was taking a bath,” said Virginia Hernandez, a tourist from Mexico City. Mexico is frequently shaken by earthquakes, particularly along its Pacific coast. In 2017 the capital was hit by a 7.1 magnitude tremor that toppled buildings and left 370 people dead and thousands injured throughout the country.
Getting sunburn can be really annoying and difficult to handle, especially when it’s on the most visible parts of the body such as the face.
What’s worse is that sunburn can actually lead to other health consequences, depending on its severity. Sun poisoning and skin cancers are some of the major long-term consequences of sunburn. Pain, severe itching, dryness, and peeling skin are immediate consequences.
While sunburn is bad enough anywhere on your body when it is on your face there is nowhere for it to hide. This could lead to less confidence in your look, and major concerns if you are particular about your skin. This is why sunburn should be treated immediately you get them.
Here are a few quick remedies for treating sunburn on your face and the good thing is that they aren’t difficult to carry out.
First, for immediate relief from the burning sensation, you may want to place a cool compress on your face. A cold, wet towel is your best option here. You can add a bit of ice but make sure you don’t rub your face, as this will aggravate the sunburn.
Next, put an aloe juice on your face as soon as you are able to. Also ensure to avoid the jagged edges of your aloe leaf (when directly applying the plant) from scrubbing against your burns, in order to avoid more injuries) the best way is to extract the gel or juice before rubbing on your face.
The sooner you can apply aloe, the better your skin will be able to recover. Ideally, put aloe on before and after the cold compress. Remember to reapply the aloe gel regularly.
More importantly, keep your face out of the sun! Exposing yourself to more sun rays will worsen your current sunburn. Your face is one of the most exposed parts of your body. Keep it safe by wearing a hat and applying SPF (sunscreen) before leaving your house.
These home remedies will help bring relief from sunburn itch and speed the healing process. For mild sunburn, you should be better in 3-5 days. A moderate burn will likely take a week or more and severe burns with blisters will likely take two weeks or more.
Remember, sunburns are burns – so always be gentle to sunburned skin.
Most importantly, do not apply chemical-based lightening products on them. This will only worsen the situation and make your skin prone to more burn. The best way to rid your face of sunburns is to heal and not to combat them with harsh products.
Also, avoid harsh soaps that can dry out your skin. Use a gentle, moisturizing soap, like goat milk soap. You can also mix your aloe treatment with coconut oil for skin soothing and moisturizing.
The only downside of using aloe is that it forms a stiff, somewhat tacky coating on your skin but with extra moisture from the coconut oil, you have nothing to worry about.
Lastly, bear in mind that treating sunburn requires a lot of patience and consistency with your strategies. Staying hydrated is the most essential thing that you can do to help ease your sunburn. When you hydrate your body, you hydrate your skin.
Sunburn dries out your skin rather severely, so the more moisture you can send to that burn, the better. So hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Remedies can only help in the healing process. If you want to really achieve relief from your burn, you need to ensure a lot of water, water based fruits and veggies intake.

Agusto & Co. Limited, the pan-African credit rating agency has estimated a 15 per cent growth in Gross Premium Income (GPI) for the financial year ended December 31, 2020.
This was revealed in the agency 2021 insurance industry report. The 2021 edition of the annual report provides a comprehensive review of the insurance landscape in Nigeria and the near-term expectation for the Industry.
Contained in the report is a review of the coronavirus pandemic, as it affects the Nigeria insurance industry and strategies adopted by insurers to minimise the associated disruptions while optimising the opportunities provided by the pandemic.
Innovation in product distribution induced by the pandemic, regulatory-backed opportunities including the digitisation of marine insurance certificates and increasing awareness of the benefits of insurance products were some of the GPI growth drivers during the 2020 financial year.
According to Agusto & Co., the violence that trailed the #EndSARS protest in October 2020 adversely impacted the Industry in terms of additional claims, which in turn impaired profitability for the 2020 financial year and would moderate the performance of some insurers in 2021.

President Muhammadu Buhari has insisted that as far as Libya remains unstable, illegal arms and ammunition will continue to flow into Nigeria and other countries in the Sahel region, stating that the closure of Nigeria’s land borders for almost one year did not stop the inflow of arms and ammunition into the country.
The president expressed concern about security in Nigeria and the Sahel during a meeting yesterday at the State House, Abuja, with the outgoing Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas.
Also yesterday, North-west governors met in Abuja over the rising insecurity in the zone even as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, charged states to evolve mechanisms for securing forest reserves, which fall under their purview, and have been turned into bandits’ enclaves.
Establishing a link between the ongoing insecurity in the Sahel and Libya, Buhari said the late President Muammar Gadaffi held a firm grip on power in Libya for 42 years by recruiting armed guards from different countries, who then escaped with their arms when the Libyan strongman was killed.
He said: “The armed guards didn’t learn any other skill than to shoot and kill. So, they are a problem all over the Sahel countries today.

Weaving contemporary designs into a traditional West African fabric, Nigerian Tsemaye Binitie is creating fashion he hopes can also bridge the gap between luxury and the everyday.
His material of choice is Aso-oke, a hand-woven cloth indigenous to the Yoruba people and historically used on special occasions.
Binitie, began using the fabric in 2017, and he infuses the yellow dresses that are his signature creations with cottons and silks to give them a post-modern feel.
“We started to use contemporary African art and culture within the threads of the collection so you see hints of it or very … obvious (signs),” said Binitie, who divides his time between Lagos and London.
“It’s sort of informed fabric, informed colour, informed styling.”
Priced at between $300 and $4,000, his TB12 custom collection features Aso-oke – which means “top cloth” in Yoruba – in seven different shades.
“We are sort of preserving the culture, you know, that we’ve watched all our lives in front of us … and teaching the younger generation that it is something to be proud of, something to want to wear,” he told Reuters.
Fellow Lagos designer Lisa Folawiyo specialises in a different traditional cloth, the West African wax prints known as Ankara, and her hybrid collection, called Batkara, incorporates Batik designs embellished with needle-work beadings and sequin trimmings. “We have merged what is indigenous to us with what is familiar in the West and we’ve made it ours,” she said.
That same synthesis informs the aesthetic of Alara, a Lagos store dedicated to showcasing contemporary African fashion for the Nigerian and the diaspora markets. Its Head of Partnerships, Arinola Fagbemi, says more and more people are thinking about African luxury “in terms of how we live on a day-to-day basis not just for celebratory moments.”
