Jamie Vardy replies teammate Ndidi in pidgin English after breaking corner flag

Jamie Vardy responded to a dig in pidgin English to Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho

– Leicester City scored a late winner in their Premier League fixture against Sheffield United

– Vardy broke the corner flag in the course of his celebration and was booked by the referee

Jamie Vardy’s relationship with his Nigerian teammates at Leicester City has had a positive effect on his pidgin language.

The England striker scored the winner against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane to maintain their top-five status in the Premier League..

However, while the Englishman was celebrating he slid through the corner flag which got broken because it was made of plastic.

After celebrating with his teammates, the 33-year-old was shown a yellow card by the referee for damaging the corner flag but that did not have an effect on the 2-1 scoreline.

Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi were second half substitutes in the game as they took their discussion about the broken corner flag to social media.

Ndidi who made his return to the Premier League after many weeks out due to injury said on Twitter with a photo of their celebration:

“Corner flag wey Vardy break .. lol.”
Iheanacho also joined the discussion as he responded:

“Na corner flag of you people.”
Vardy then responded in pidgin:

“No be me do am.”

Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Ahmed Musa are the Nigerian players in Leicester City.

Vardy told TheCable that his only challenge with the Nigerian trio is their Pidgin English which he says is difficult to understand.

“The Nigerian players keep talking- Pidgin English you call it, right? It’s hard to understand,

“But I am trying to learn it and speak it like they do.

“They are great players. And as the team is trying to improve, that is why they are brought to the club – to help us improve.

“So, it is left to them to work hard and get on the playing field.

Vardy, who was instrumental in Leicester’s emergence as England’s champions two seasons ago, said breaking Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of most consecutive goals in the EPL was an emotional experience.

“That was the best achievement of my career as a footballer,” he said.

“At that moment when I realised that I broke Van Nistelrooy’s record, I didn’t know what to do or how to deal with that but I was happy. I was emotional.”

Vardy further said it was too early to predict the winner of the new Premier League season.

“Who knows? This is football. Any club can win it. Or we can too,” he added

CBN’s Emefiele, Others On Refusing Further Devaluation Of Naira

1

The governor of the Central bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has commented on the series of Naira devaluation that has plunged the country into a near recession with food prices at an all-time high.

Following a revaluation, many have backed the decision of the governor, including the Vice President of Industrial Global Union, Comrade Issa Aremu who recently spoke at a one-day interactive session of stakeholders in Kaduna, described currency devaluation in a developing economy as “false economics”.

He observed that the best way to measure the worth of the Naira was by “market fundamentals” directed at driving growth and development rather than satisfying “the insatiable urge of currency speculators for unearned profits on the streets.”

He said Nigeria depends on imported inputs for industrial production, adding that “unmanaged exchange rates” and attendant devaluation would only further increase the cost of production, depress wages, prevent progressive internal competition and make economic recovery intractable.

However, people who seek personal gain at the expense of the country and its economy, especially those who earn in foreign currency, continue to use parallel market rates to put pressure on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to devalue the Naira.
Things seem to have gotten to a head as the CBN focuses on reversal policies that allow beneficiaries of diaspora remittances and foreign exchange transfers into domiciliary accounts, to collect the proceed in foreign currencies. These policies aimed at shoring the Naira helped her gain #20 against the dollar.

The CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele who commented that they would no longer have their way, said this and more at the end of the last 2020 Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, in Abuja, on Tuesday.

He said “It is unfair that even analysts who should know are using parallel market rate to say that our currency is overvalued and therefore calling for devaluation.  This is very unfortunate.

Water Therapy and how it can benefit you

0

Aqua therapy is making a splash, promising to soothe muscles, increase focus, and reduce stress. If you’ve ever had the chance to lounge in a hot tub on vacation, you know what it can do for your emotional state. “Water is like medicine for a stressed-out mind—it has an immediate calming effect,” says marine biologist Wallace J. Nichols, Ph.D., author of Blue Mind. We asked experts to weigh in on some trending treatments.

Flotation Therapy

What it is: Floating in shallow water infused with Epsom salts to reduce stress. It was a fringe practice in the 1950s, but temperature-controlled cabins have replaced tight enclosed sensory-deprivation tanks.

What we know: In a 2018 study, a one-hour float significantly reduced stress and muscle tension in participants, who also reported feelings of serenity. “It’s a shortcut to a meditative state,” says study coauthor Justin Feinstein, Ph.D., who uses flotation therapy to treat patients with PTSD, severe depression, and other mental illnesses at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research in Tulsa. Feinstein says that he has seen blood pressure drop 10 to 20 points in just 20 minutes.

Should you try it? Yes. There are no major risks, and it has been proven to help.

The Cold Plunge

What it is: A frigid dip (especially right after time in a sauna or hot tub) is said to offer a mental reset, relieving mild depression and increasing focus. You’ll find cold plunge pools in many gyms and spas.

What we know: “Cold is a well-known treatment for inflammation, which is why athletes sit in cold baths after games. But a sudden plunge into icy water also activates the sympathetic nervous system, releasing neurotransmitters that make you feel good,” says Andrew Gregory, M.D., a sports medicine specialist at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville.

Should you try it? Yes, as long as you’re not at risk for heart problems. “For young, healthy people, there’s little concern. But if you have heart disease, flooding the system with adrenaline, noradrenaline, and dopamine could cause arrhythmia or even a heart attack,” Dr. Gregory says.

Aquarium Therapy

What it is: Focusing on marine creatures—in a tank, at an aquarium, or even on a livestream—to soothe anxiety.

What we know: A 2016 study at the U.K.’s National Marine Aquarium revealed that participants’ heart rates dropped within five minutes of watching a tank fill with water—then fell further as fish were added. In another study, subjects showed a significant reduction in cortisol levels and blood pressure after walking through an immersive naturalistic exhibit. “People can gain similar stress relief and health benefits to those they’d get in nature at an aquarium, or even by watching a live stream of one,” says Deborah Cracknell, Ph.D., an honorary research fellow at Exeter University Medical School in the U.K.

Should you try it? Yes! Visit an aquarium if you can, and consider getting a tank at home—Cracknell says you can get some of the same relief from watching fish swim around that way.

Harry Kane to Son Heung-min. Goal. Son to Kane. Game over. The most lethal double act in the Premier League were at it again, combining to give Tottenham a 2-0 lead by half-time and the platform for a comfortable return to the top of the table.

The numbers alone are worth highlighting. Kane has scored 14 goals and made 12 assists in all competitions this season while for Son it is 13 goals and six assists. But it is more than that. It is the understanding that the pair have built, the instinctiveness of it, how they operate at such tempo and with such ruthlessness.

It was stamped all over the second goal, in particular, with Kane bending his run around Son on a rapid break before accepting the pass and blasting high past Bernd Leno. Son’s opener had been more of an individual effort – and a beautiful one, at that – although Kane did get him up and running, and it became a question as to whether Arsenal’s misfiring attack could penetrate the meanest defence in the division. Most of those present, who included 2,000 vociferous home fans, knew the answer.

It was the latest triumph of José Mourinho’s counterattacking gameplan and Kane’s goal meant he became the highest all-time scorer in this derby with 11 – one clear of Emmanuel Adebayor and Bobby Smith.

Arsenal’s woes go on. Mired in their worst start to a Premier League season, it is now five defeats in the past seven games in the competition and they cannot buy a break in front of goal. Only the bottom three clubs have scored fewer than their 10.

Mikel Arteta played Alexandre Lacazette in a roving role behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and he did not look like the creative solution as Arsenal struggled to break the lines or get in behind Spurs. They dominated possession but their play was almost always in front of their rivals – in other words, where Mourinho wanted them. It felt as though Arsenal could have worked their patterns all night without reward. They crossed and crossed and then crossed some more but Spurs kept on clearing

Arsenal knew they had to be wary of Spurs’ transitions but it is one thing to know that and quite another to stop them. They fell behind after one of their moves broke down on the edge of the Spurs area and it was Eric Dier clearing from Héctor Bellerín’s cross and Serge Aurier helping the ball up to Kane on halfway.

Kane held the ball up, as Gabriel stepped off him – a bad idea – before he turned and played in Son up the inside-left channel. Son cut inside and unfurled a trademark curler for the far corner, getting everything just right and leaving Leno clutching at thin air. Bellerín sank to his knees in anguish.

The contrasting fortunes of the key central midfielders on either side was instructive. Pierre-Emile Højbjerg was once again outstanding in front of the Spurs back four whereas Thomas Partey lasted only 45 minutes for Arsenal upon his return from a thigh injury. Even worse, when Partey felt a recurrence of the problem and headed off, he left a hole for Spurs to exploit for the second goal. “We had four versus three and suddenly Thomas is walking towards me,” Arteta said, doing a good job of hiding his exasperation.

Aurier intercepted a Bellerín cross that was meant for Aubameyang and when he set Giovani Lo Celso away it was shocking to see that Spurs had four counterattackers against two defenders. Lo Celso, who played in place of Tanguy Ndombele, who was ill, found Son and there was an inevitability about what happened after that. Kane’s overlapping run was well timed; the finish from a tight angle was lashed in off the underside of the crossbar.

Arteta pushed his full-backs high at the start of the second half and it added up to him going for broke in light of how threatening Spurs were on the break. Having failed in the first half to work Hugo Lloris, who was passed fit after a health scare, the visitors knew they needed the next goal and they had a couple of openings straight away.

Lacazette drew a save out of Lloris with a flicked header from a free-kick before Kieran Tierney picked out Aubameyang with a lovely cross. The Arsenal captain headed high – a bad miss. He has not scored a league goal in open play since 12 September.

Arsenal camped inside the Spurs half after the interval but their only other real chance came on 68 minutes when Lloris fumbled a Lacazette header around his post.

Mourinho has never lost a home game against Arsenal while Arteta has never beaten him as a player or manager. Neither record felt in peril.

Plateau Utd, Kano Pillars crash out of continental cups

0

PLATEAU United and Kano Pillars have crashed out at the first hurdle of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, respectively.

Plateau United exited the Champions League in Tanzania after they could only manage a goalless draw with home team Simba SC after they lost the home game in Jos 1-0 last week.

In Kaduna, Kano Pillars crashed out of the Confederation Cup after they played out a scoreless draw with Senegal’s ASC Jaraaf, who won the first game 3-1 last week.

Jaraaf created the better chances in this encounter, but failed to put them away.

Rivers United and Enyimba are now the remaining Nigerian clubs on the continent.

Rivers will tomorrow welcome Futoro from Equatorial Guinea in Port Harcourt after they lost 2-1 in a Confederation Cup preliminary round first leg tie.

Enyimba will be expected to advance to the first round with a home win over Rahimo of Burkina Faso after they won the first game 1-0 on the road.

Drama As INEC Declares APC Winner of Imo North Senatorial Election Without a Candidate

0

Drama and tension have continued to soak the political atmosphere of Imo state, as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Sunday declared the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the Imo North bye-election, held on Saturday albeit without any known bona fide candidate.

The Election Returning Officer, ERO, Hakeem Adikum  who quickly rose after announcing the results scored by various political parties and their candidates, simply said “I hereby return the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the bye-election held in Imo North on Saturday, December 5.”

The Returning Officer announced that APC scored 36,811 votes, while Emmanuel Okewulonu of the People Democratic Party came second with 31,903 votes.

According to Adikum, APC won in five out of the six Local Government Areas in the senatorial district while PDP won in one LGA.

While PDP won in Obowo LGA where its candidate hails from, the Returning Officer said that APC won in Okigwe, Onuimo, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano and Ihitte/ Uboma LGAs.

INEC’s failure to return any candidate as the winner of the election caused disquiet in the hall, as the supporters of the two persons, Ifeanyi Araraume and Frank Ibezim, laying claims to the APC ticket who were waiting to jubilate outside went home unannounced.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo state, Prof Francis Ezeonu, told journalists that the commission was unable to return a particular candidate from a APC as the winner of the election because of what he called several court orders for and against Araraume and Ibezim of the APC.

Recall that an Abuja federal High court had on Friday barred Ibezim for life from contesting elections.

The court had indicted Ibezim of perjury based on the credentials he submitted to INEC and his party, the APC.

The same day, a court of Appeal in Owerri sacked Araraume as the candidate of the APC and declared Ibezim as the authentic candidate of the party.

Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenem who delivered the judgment, ordered INEC to immediately enlist Ibezim’s name as the candidate of the party for the bye- election.

Traffic Control: ECAPI Collaborates With LASTMA, Inducts Special Mayors

0

Anyone familiar with the Lagos metropolis will understand how important it is to have more personnel to control the traffic situation around the state.

The state government has put in place several measures to ameliorate the traffic congestion in most parts of the state, like creating the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA. The effort of LASTMA cannot be over emphasised. An elite group of volunteers called Special Traffic Mayors are also part of the LASTMA team tackling the challenges of road congestion everywhere in Lagos.

In line with her vision to foster a better and safer society, the Eagle Crime Awareness and Prevention Initiative (ECAPI) is in collaboration with LASTMA to ensure there’s better flow of traffic and less accident on Lagos roads.

To this end, on Thursday, December 3rd, LASTMA carried out a pre-induction ceremony of  ECAPI representatives as Special Traffic Mayors. The induction was carried out by the LASTMA Mayor Commander Othman Adeshina Tajudeen who lauded ECAPI for the role the organization has been playing in the society.

The newly inducted Special Traffic Mayors were congratulated by ECAPI President, Comrade Samuel Eniola Adam. The Mayors are charged with the mandate of better traffic management and instilling the spirit of civil obedience on drivers and other road users.

The event took place at the Banquet Hall of the International Trade Fair Complex, Lagos Badagry Expressway.

6 Tell-tale signs you need more potassium in your body

0

Potassium plays an important role in the health of every cell in the human body. Especially, the cells that makeup heart muscle tissue.

Don’t get enough potassium and it will have a serious impact on your body’s ability to function. It could even cause fatigue and muscle cramps.

About 98 percent of the potassium present in the human body is found in cells, which means that even small changes can have devastating consequences on the nerves, muscles, and heart.

And that’s why it’s important that we help spread this information so that more people can learn to detect the symptoms of low potassium levels in the body.

Here are six warning signs that everyone should know:

1. Constipation

A lack of potassium can have a major impact on many body systems, including the digestive system, where it can cause stomach bloating and cramps.

Keep in mind, however, that low potassium isn’t the only cause of gastrointestinal disorders—so be careful about eating foods that make your stomach bloat.

2. Muscle weakness

Muscle pain, weak muscles, and muscle cramps can be a sign that the body needs more potassium.

3. Heart palpitations

As mentioned above, potassium deficiency has a big impact on the heart. Heart palpitations and abnormal heart rhythms can be the result of not getting enough potassium.

When your potassium balance is disturbed, the heart struggles to pump blood and the heartbeat becomes weak or irregular.

Therefore, be sure to get enough potassium and protect yourself from heart disease and myocardial infarction.

4. Fatigue

If you feel tired even though you’ve slept well, then potassium deficiency might be the cause.

Every cell in your body needs potassium, but when potassium levels drop, your physical and mental energy may be affected.

5. Numbness and tingling

Potassium is an important mineral that promotes a healthy nervous system. So if you aren’t getting enough, you may experience pins and needles or numbness..

6. High blood pressure

Potassium helps widen blood vessels. But without enough of it, they contract. This, in turn, causes blood pressure to rise.

Most people don’t notice when their blood pressure rises, but in some cases it can cause a headache.

How to avoid potassium deficiency

With so many potassium-rich foods available, there’s no need to take potassium supplements. Instead, increase your intake of fruits, vegetables, and juices.

Potassium deficiency often occurs when you eat too much fast food and keep a low-energy diet. Eating too much salty food and not enough fruits and vegetables can also lead to a potassium deficit.

Foods that contain a lot of potassium:

Bananas

Dairy products (especially milk and yogurt)

Root vegetables and nuts

Fish

Mushrooms

White beans and soybeans

Avocados
