Barely 24 hours after suspected Fulani herdsmen gruesomely killed five persons in Owode Ketu, youths under the auspices of Yewa North Patriotic Forum has issued a seven-day ultimatum to killer herdsmen roaming or domiciled within Yewa North to quit the area.

The group gave the ultimatum in a press statement tagged, ‘YNPF to killer Fulani herdsmen: We can’t condone you beyond Seven days‘ and made available to DAILY POST on Friday, in Abeokuta.

According to the statement signed by the President of the group, Sani Omobolaji, residents of Yewa North have been living in fear and pains of recurrent killings which can only be traced to herders but have refused to fight back, hoping that solutions will be offered after complaints to the government.

The statement reads in part, “As responsible young people in Yewa North, We have tried to ensure that our coexistence works even when we are the legitimate owners of Yewa land, but Thursday’s gruesome killing of five of our people has shown that killer Fulani herdsmen can only live in their own world.

The Committee of Youths on Mobilisation and Sensitisation (CYMS) has urged Nigerian youths to boycott the proposed protest in the interest of peace and socioeconomic stability that were affected after the 2020 “ENDSARS PROTEST”.

The Lagos State coordinator, CYMS, Leonard Obasi, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday in Abuja.

To counter the proposed Feb. 13 protest #OccupyLekkiTollGate at the tollgate plaza, some youths had announced a #DefendLagos rally to hold at the same venue.

The plan to #OccupyLekkiTollGate came barely a day after the controversial ruling of the Lagos Judicial panel of inquiry to reopen the Lekki Tollgate.

A Nigerian Senator representing the Niger East Senatorial District of Niger State, Sani Musa has said that cryptocurrency rendered Nigeria’s Naira useless and without value.

Sani said this during plenary where his colleagues debated the ban on cryptocurrencies ordered by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

”Cryptocurrency has become a worldwide transaction of which you cannot even identify who owns what. It is being protected by an app or stuck to a bloc chip. The technology is so strong. I don’t know the kind of regulation that we can do

Another very important thing that we should know is that Bitcoin has made our currency almost useless or valueless because I can remember that about six or seven years ago, my son bought three pieces of Bitcoin online and today, he is coming to tell me that he has Bitcoin for sale.

Where is it because it is not physical.

Fulani not Terrorists – Oluwo of Iwo

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, has disclosed that Nigerians of Fulani extraction residing in his domain are not terrorists.

The paramount ruler made this disclosure during an unscheduled visit to some Fulani settlements within Iwo land on Friday.

Oba Akanbi noted that there were beautiful Fulani children in his domain and that he was going to re-orientate the ones amongst them who had chosen a criminal path.

He maintained that the criminal elements amongst them were formed as a result of decades of neglect in the Southwest.

According to him, “When you do not care about people living in abject poverty around you, without helping or checking that girl child coming out of the forest selling local cheese and those small boys rearing cattle from 6 am till evening.”

“If someone resides in the forest for so long, there is possibility that they may start behaving irrationally if not properly put in check”, he added.

The attack was widely blamed on Russian agents.

Biden Upholds Controversial Decision, U.S. Embassy To Remain In Jerusalem

0

The Biden administration plans to keep the U.S. embassy to Israel in Jerusalem, upholding a controversial decision by former President Donald Trump.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that he recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The interview was followed by the release of a CQ Roll Call report Tuesday that cited an unnamed Biden administration source saying that the U.S. will not move the embassy out of Jerusalem, despite Palestinian opposition.

“The ultimate status of Jerusalem is a final status issue which will need to be resolved by the parties in the context of direct negotiations.”

In his interview with Blitzer, Blinken was asked directly if he recognizes Israel as the capital of Israel.

“I do, yes,” the secretary responded. “And more importantly, we do.”

Blinken was asked if he would support Palestine locating its capital in East Jerusalem as part of a potential peace agreement.

“What we have to see happen is for the parties to get together and negotiate these so-called final status issues,” he said.

The Biden administration’s confirmation comes days after the Senate voted 97-3 in favor of a congressional budget amendment that kept the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem.

The status of Jerusalem has been a major point of contention during the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with each side making claims to the ancient city as their rightful capital.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who spoke at the ceremony opening the embassy, told then-President Trump that “by recognizing history, you have made history.”

Environmental Degradation: Polluted Nigerian Communities Can Sue Shell In English Courts – UK Supreme Court

0

The Supreme Court in the United Kingdom has ruled that polluted Nigerian communities can sue oil giant Shell in English courts.

The decision is a victory for the communities after a five-year battle and overturns a Court of Appeal ruling.

The Niger Delta communities of more than 40,000 people say decades of pollution have severely impacted their lives, health and local environment.

Shell had argued it was only a holding company for a firm that should be judged under Nigerian law.

Royal Dutch Shell did not dispute that pollution had been caused, but argued it could not be held legally responsible for its Nigerian subsidiary.

Last year the Court of Appeal agreed with the company, but the Supreme Court said on Friday that that decision was flawed.

The Supreme Court, the UK’s final appeal court for civil cases, ruled that the cases brought by the Bille community and the Ogale people of Ogoniland against Royal Dutch Shell were arguable and could proceed in the English courts.

Shell is responsible for about 50% of the delta’s oil production.

The communities, represented by law firm Leigh Day, argued Shell owed a common law duty of care to individuals who had suffered serious harm as a result of the systemic health, safety and environmental failings of one of its overseas subsidiaries.

Leigh Day partner Daniel Leader said the ruling was a “watershed” for “impoverished communities seeking to hold powerful corporate actors to account”.

The firm said the amount of compensation sought had yet to be determined.

This is the latest case to test whether multinational companies can be held accountable for the acts of overseas subsidiaries.
