Just In: #Endsars Protester Eromosele Released On Bail.

0

The Lagos magistrate court Yaba has grated Eromosele Adene, one of the drivers of the #endsars protests, bail this morning.
His bail was set at a million naira with two sureties of the same amount. It was determined that one of his sureties must own property & they must both be taxpayers.

The court grounds were heavily guarded by policemen, who prevented members of the public and pressmen from gaining access into the courthouse.

Later in the day, when the case commenced, the Police prosecutor requested that the magistrate grant the Police a remand order to keep Eromosele in custody while he’s investigated for acts including criminal incitement under Nigeria’s Terrorism Act. Eromosele’s counsel in a rebuttal describes the application filed by the Police as “a threat to his fundamental rights”.
He went ahead to say, that the Police have had enough time to investigate the case since he’s spent 10 days in custody already.
He says his freedom should not depend on the ability of the Police to speedily investigate the case against him.
The court ruled in favor of Eromosele.

Sure Remedies To Help Get Rid Of Stubborn Dark Spots

0

Getting rid of stubborn acne is a big enough concern to not want to have to deal with the spots they leave behind.

Even when you don’t pick at them, pimples tend to leave dark marks because of the way our bodies naturally respond to damages. As a pimple heals, your body produces cells to replace the damaged skin, this new skin sometimes comes out with too much melanin as extra protection. This results in post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which we sometimes call a ‘dark spot.’

It’s important that we know the difference between a scar and a dark spot. Scars usually indicate that tissue is damaged or overgrown and generally takes much much longer to clear even after it heals. Dark spots on the other hand, are flat against the skin with no considerable long-term damage to tissues and skin cells.

Fading might take a while, but dark spots tend to become lighter with time, and eventually go away completely. This can be anywhere from 2 months to 2 years.

I am a firm believer in home remedies and their effectiveness. I believe that skin-care starts with self-awareness and listening to your skin. Home remedies call for a lot of personal research and allows you to mix and match your ingredients to specification. With home remedies, your knowledge of what your skins’ needs and in what proportions keeps getting better so that even when you shop with known brands, you pick just what you need, with limited stress.

Below is a list of home remedies for dark spots and their various applications.

1)Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV) – Apple cider is simply fermented apple juice and is a common household product that is available for purchase in almost every retail store.

Because of its acidity, apple cider vinegar helps to kill pathogens and bacteria, remove excess oil, treat acne, and fade dark marks.

Apple cider is rich in beta carotene and contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.

APPLICATION: In applying ACV, never apply directly to your skin as this can cause burns. Soak a cotton pad in equal parts ACV and water or more water than ACV depending on the sensitivity of your skin, and gently rub it around on your face. Ensure to moisturize afterward, as ACV can be very stripping.

2)Tomato Juice: The juicy tomato is not only great tasting but great at shrinking open pores caused by acne. The natural astringent properties of tomatoes, also make it ideal for clearing blemishes. As for the dark spots, the high lycopene content present in tomatoes helps in lightening these stubborn spots and contributes to helping you achieve that smooth, polished look.

Application: When it comes to tomatoes, I love using them frozen, as this helps to tighten my pores. The cold sensation is also very relaxing after a long day. Generally, what you need from the tomato is its juice, so you cut the tomato into halves or quarters and rub liberally over the skin, back and forth, or in circular motions.

3)Tumeric: Tumeric is an orange-colored spice of the flowering plant Curcuma longa of the ginger family. The part we use is gotten from the root of the turmeric plant. It helps even out skin tone, and its extract also helps reduce the appearance of acne scars and hyperpigmentation.

Application: Tumeric in powder form, can be mixed with other natural ingredients such as honey, lemon, water, apple cider, sugar, essential oils, etc to form a paste depending on what benefits you want to get. Apply the paste as a face mask, leave it on for a couple of minutes, rinse off and moisturize!

4) Aloe Vera: Aloe vera is a succulent plant species of the genus Aloe. It is cultivated for agricultural and medicinal uses. aloe, contains aloin, a natural depigmenting compound that has been known to lighten skin and contains aloin, a natural depigmenting compound that has been shown to lighten skin and work effectively on hyperpigmentation.

Application: To apply aloe, cut open the plant, and extract the gel-like substance. Apply as a mask covering all necessary bases. leave for as long as possible or over-night and rinse with warm water.

5)Lemon juice: lemon is a fruit in the citrus family. Its juice is one of the more popular scar fading ingredients packed with vitamin c and antioxidants that also support collagen production which is important for skin elasticity and skin health. it is very effective in lightening dark spots and patches.

Application: lemon juice can be made into a mask or diluted for those with sensitive skin. Some people prefer to apply directly to the skin using the carpels and juice sacs as roughages for exfoliation.

however, because vitamin c is acidic and can cause photosensitivity, it can cause sunburns if the skin is exposed to sunlight.

In this regard and in regards to all substances with high vitamin c content, organic or otherwise, the importance of sun protection cannot be overemphasized. The effects of UV rays directly on the skin can cause severe damage to the skin and negate the effects of the ingredients in your skincare routine. Have your SPF 30 (& upwards) in hand at all times and apply it liberally to protect you.

Over The Counter (OTC)and Branded Acne Treatment Medication

When you’ve mastered your skin and what it requires, knowing the ingredients to look out for and the brands that meet your needs would become so much easier. For fading away dark spots, here is a list of ingredients mix and combinations that you should look out for.

  • Vitamin E (tocopherol)

Huawei Sells Off Budget Phone Brand As U.S Pressure Bites

0

Chinese telecom giant Huawei announced Tuesday it has sold its Honor budget phone line to a domestic consortium in a move it said was necessary to keep the brand alive amid “tremendous” supply chain pressures caused by US sanctions.

Honor has been purchased by a group of 40 companies comprised of agents, distributors and other businesses dependent on the brand’s survival, Huawei and the consortium said in separate statements.

Huawei, which earlier this year became the world’s top mobile phone seller, said its consumer business “has been under tremendous pressure” due to a growing inability to acquire components as the US seeks to cut the company off from the global supply chain.

The sale appears aimed at getting Honor out from under the Huawei umbrella, thereby allowing the brand to source components without being affected by the US sanctions.

The sale is the latest sign that Huawei — also the world’s largest supplier of telecommunications networking equipment — is being squeezed hard by the US campaign against it.

The administration of President Trump alleges that Huawei has close ties to China’s government and military and that the equipment it has installed globally could be used by Beijing for espionage.

Both China’s government and the company have denied the accusation.

According to an experimental study, Mouthwash demonstrated virucidal properties that can kill deadly coronavirus within 30 seconds of being exposed to it,

The preliminary result comes ahead of a clinical trial into whether using over-the-counter mouthwash has the potential to reduce the levels of Covid-19 in a patient’s saliva.

According to the researchers, mouthwashes have the potential to reduce the oral “viral load” of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, among those suffering from the illness.

The preliminary result comes ahead of a clinical trial into whether using over-the-counter mouthwash has the potential to reduce the levels of Covid-19 in a patient’s saliva.

The research, which was conducted at Cardiff University, found that mouthwashes containing 0.07% of the ingredient cetyl pyridinium chloride (CPC) showed “promising signs” of reducing COVID-19.

Dentyl will be the only UK mouthwash brand used in the trial, and the findings will be published in early 2021.

0

Francisco Sagasti was elected as lawmakers met to try to find a way out of a political crisis, sparked by the impeachment of one popular president and the resignation of his controversial successor, amid protests which killed two people.

Sagasti, a centrist, will serve as interim president until the end of July 2021, completing the mandate of Martin Vizcarra, who was impeached by Congress last Monday.

His successor, former Congress speaker Manuel Merino, resigned on Sunday after days of street protests during which two demonstrators were killed.

Congress was meeting for a second time to agree a president and Sagasti secured the minimum 60 votes required.

A first attempt by the legislature to agree on a president failed on Sunday, when leftist lawmaker Rocio Silva Santisteban, won just 42 votes.

A SpaceX Crew Dragon carrying four astronauts docked with the International Space Station on Monday, the first of what the US hopes will be many routine missions.

After launching at 7:27 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday (0027 GMT on Monday) atop SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida, three U.S. astronauts and one Japanese astronaut awoke at noon (1700 GMT) on Monday from their scheduled eight-hour sleep in low-Earth orbit .

The gumdrop-shaped space capsule, which the astronauts named Resilience, was scheduled to dock at 11 p.m. Monday (0400 GMT on Tuesday) at the space station, an orbital laboratory some 400 km above Earth where another U.S. astronaut and two Russian cosmonauts were awaiting their arrival.

The Resilience crew includes Hopkins, an Air Force colonel, and two fellow National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronauts: mission pilot Victor Glover and physicist Shannon Walker.

They are joined by Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi, making his third trip to space after previously flying on the U.S. shuttle in 2005 and Soyuz in 2009.

Before receiving its flight certification from NASA last week, SpaceX’s Crew Dragon had been under development for roughly a decade under a public-private NASA program started in 2011 to revive the agency’s human spaceflight capability.

Hurricane Iota Makes Landfall In Central America With Catastrophic Winds

0

Hurricane Iota began whipping a remote coastal area of Nicaragua with catastrophic winds, storm surges and rain on Monday evening.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Iota was due to crash through northeastern Nicaragua’s Miskito region overnight, packing maximum sustained winds of 260 km per hour.

The NHC said having reached Category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, By 7 p.m. EST, the western edge of the storm’s eye, or the “eyewall” had reached the country.

Central America and southern Mexico are still reeling from Hurricane Eta, which devastated crops and washed away hillsides after landing near Puerto Cabezas two weeks ago, killing dozens. Many towns are still partially flooded, and the land is waterlogged from the earlier storm.

Along with the wind, Iota will raise sea levels as much as 6 meters above normal tides. It is expected to quickly weaken inland, but will dump as much as 30 inches of rain over the next few days.

Earlier in the day, governments from Panama to Guatemala rushed to move people away from hillsides, volcanoes and bodies of water.

The World Food Programme said millions of people already urgently needed food aid in the wake of Eta.

Moderna Vaccine 94.5% Effective In Second Breakthrough

0

US biotech firm Moderna on Monday announced its experimental vaccine against Covid-19 was 94.5 percent effective, marking a second major breakthrough in the vaccine hunt.

Moderna released early results from a clinical trial with more than 30,000 participants, after US pharmaceutical company Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech last week said their vaccine was 90 percent effective.

Both vaccine frontrunners are based on a new platform called messenger RNA, which is faster to produce than traditional vaccines and effectively turn human cells into vaccine factories.

The company plans to submit applications for emergency approval in the US and around the world within weeks, and says it expects to have approximately 20 million doses ready to ship in the US by the end of the year.

Global infections from Covid-19 have soared past 54 million with more than 1.3 million deaths since the virus emerged in China late last year.

The Moderna vaccine, which was co-developed by the US National Institutes of Health, is given in two doses 28 days apart, and the preliminary results are based on 95 volunteers of the 30,000 who fell ill with Covid-19.

Of the 95, 90 had been in the trial’s placebo group, and five in the group that received the drug, called mRNA-1273.

4 habits that make you more polite

0

It can be the smallest of gestures, the simplest of phrases, and quietest of actions that make us think that the person we’re having a conversation with is truly connecting with us.

According to Paul Ford, a writer and programmer, below are some tricks on how to be polite, which he swears have never failed him.

When you’re at a party or event and find yourself in a conversation with someone you don’t know well or even at all, try and see how long you can hold off talking about what they do for a living.

Ask plenty of questions and let the other person do most of the talking.

After you’ve exhausted all other getting-to-know-you party topics, such as how they know everyone at the party or what they’re drinking, ask the person you’re chatting with what they do for a living.

But right after they tell you, say, “Wow, that sounds hard.”

Almost everybody thinks their job is hard, and when someone acknowledges that it sounds difficult, you feel validated. Humans respond to empathy and it helps forge connections between people.

Empathy is known as social glue, as it helps bind people together and creates harmonious relationships. And when you’re polite, you show regard for others in manner, speech, and behavior.

By asking questions, being polite, showing interest, and being empathetic, it makes dealing with you pleasant and enjoyable and helps to create a relationship.

So, the next time you’re out with strangers, ask about someone’s job and then recognize how tough it must be. You’ll be surprised at how much better people will respond to you socially.

Teenage Pregnancies On The Rise In Kenya As Lockdown Impact Schools

0

Confinement they say is a necessary preventive measure during outbreaks of significant diseases, but studies have shown it can have a far-reaching and substantial deleterious psychological impact in the population subjected to isolation

COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown which was intended to bring about a sense of fear and anxiety around the globe and amongst individuals has led to a far reaching consequences; leading to a phenomenon that has led to short term as well as long term psychosocial and mental health implications for children and adolescents.

Global lockdowns could also lead to rising rates of adolescent pregnancy, non-governmental organisations working on reproductive health have warned.

In Kenya, some preliminary data suggests that this is already happening.

In the far northern town of Lodwar, teenage pregnancies among clients of the International Rescue Committee aid group nearly tripled to 625 in June-August this year, compared with 226 in the same period a year earlier, IRC data show.

In the nearby refugee camp of Kakuma, adolescent pregnancies among clients jumped to 51 in the March-August 2020 period, compared with 15 in the same period in 2019.

At the clinic that Bosibori one teenager who got pregnant during the lockdown, attended for antenatal visits – often with her classmate, who also became pregnant around the same time as her – the number of expectant girls has been climbing.

And more pregnant girls may be skipping doctors’ visits altogether.

“We know that young girls who get pregnant do not access healthcare services like adult females because of the judgment,” said Ademola Olajide, the United Nations Population Fund representative in Kenya.

That makes them more vulnerable to health complications and unsafe abortions, he added.
