0

In Nigeria’s south-west, Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu has signed an executive order to set up a “Lagos Rebuild Trust Fund Committee”.

He said and I quote, “I assure you of the committee’s utmost commitment to the reconstruction and upgrade of our dear state. in these challenging but interesting times, we realise that we have the potent opportunity to reform our state, and upgrade our structures,” end quote.

He recounted that in the last few weeks, the state government had been swamped with local and global offers of assistance to rebuild the state and recover all that were lost in October.

The governor said the 8-man committee, becomes relevant at this time following the recent attacks on various government assets and private businesses across the state.

The acting director general of the force Musa Mohammed stated this during an emergency meeting of the organisation in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The senate committee on federal character and intergovernmental affairs, through its Chairman Danjuma Laah gave the charge when the permanent secretary of the state house, Tijani Umar, defended his 2021 budget estimates before the panel.

Laah said this can be done by ensuring that the state house clinic becomes fully functional this year.

TONERS. WHAT THEY ARE AND WHY WE NEED THEM

0

If you’re an avid skincare lover, then there’s no doubt that you have heard of the word toner.
Toners are liquids that penetrate very quickly into your skin, delivering instant hydration. They are often described according to what they do and have been called many things from astringents to beauty water.
Toners nowadays are more hydrating, plumping, and pH balancing, as opposed to previous alcohol packed oil stripping astringents.

Why Should I Use A Toner?
A toner is great because it makes every other step better. It helps removes dead skin cells and essentially, improves penetration for all your other products. For instance, applying moisturizers to freshly washed skin is like putting washing detergent on dry foam and expecting it to lather.

So, When Should I Use A Toner?
A toner should always come after cleansing and before any other thing i.e (moisturizers, serums, face creams…). The only other thing you do before applying a toner is exfoliate.

How Do I Choose A Toner?
Like many beauty products, there are different toners for different skin types as well as different skin concerns. There are not as many variations of toners as there are face cleansers but selections should be done on the above criteria.
Generally, you want to avoid astringents and alcohol-based toners as they can be very stripping and cause excess oil production.
For acne-prone or oily skin, use toners with salicylic acids and tea-tree or green tea extracts. Sensitive skin demands more calming and cooling toners. Look for fragrance-free and hypoallergenic toners. Dry skinned people should flee from alcohol-based (most things)! Toners with fatty and amino acids are best as well as toners that are referred to as ‘skins’.

I love toners and think they are a major step in my routine. I have oily sensitive melanated skin so I find that it’s better to make mine. I use a green tea toner twice a day which is basically boiled green tea that I keep refrigerated. Also, I have a bottle of rose water in a spritz bottle to refresh me during the day when I’m not wearing any makeup.
so grab a bottle of toner today, whether you’re buying or making your own. you’d be glad you did.

DSS reinstates 140 sacked teachers, others

0

The dismissed teachers and other staff of the Community Staff Schools, Asokoro, Abuja, have been reinstated four days after they were issued letters of disengagement by the school management.

The school which was earlier shut for two weeks re-opened on Thursday while lessons were expected to commence Friday (today).

It was reported that the CSS owned by the Department of State Services had sacked the 140 teachers and other workers in the school for demanding better working conditions and regularisation of their appointment in line with the public service rules.

The service also asked the 1,800 pupils in the nursery/primary and secondary arms of the school to stay at home for two weeks to enable it to reorganize the school.

The DSS spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya, in a text message on Thursday said, “The school is autonomous and not run by the DSS; it has an independent board that takes decisions for it. Though I may not be speaking for the school, I, however, learnt that no single worker was dismissed. I was also told that the school will be cutting short its earlier two-week break to resume on Thursday, 5th November 2020.”

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Nigeria Union of Teachers has threatened to go on strike if the Department of State Services fails to reverse the sack of 140 teachers in its Community Staff Schools, Asokoro, Abuja.

The Secretary-General, NUT, Dr Mike Ike-Ene, however, said the union had written the authority to reverse and withdraw the sack letters.

He said, “The teachers came and we took photocopies of the sacked letters; we wrote to the authority and asked them to reverse it. If they don’t reverse the sack, all the teachers in primary and post-primary, even the private schools will all go on strike, because an injury to one is an injury to all.

“Somebody is saying give me better welfare, what you can do is negotiate. Is DSS itself not asking for better welfare? This is man’s inhumanity to man.”

Ike-Ene said that their employment was applicable to anyone in the federal civil services and so there was no justification for the sack.

The Chinese authorities have temporarily suspended entry of Nigerians and other nationals; United Kingdom, Belgium, Luxembourg, Philippines, among others, into its country over the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a notice issued on Thursday, the Chinese authorities said its embassy will no longer issue certified health declaration form for non-Chinese nationals in the country.

However, holders of diplomatic passports, courtesy or C-visas would not be affected by the regulation.

The notice stated that the suspension was due to an evaluation of COVID-19 pandemic in the said countries.

The statement, entitled ‘Notice of temporary suspension of entry into China by non-Chinese nationals in Nigeria holding valid Chinese visas or residence permits,’ added that “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, China has decided to temporarily suspend entry into China by non-Chinese nationals in Nigeria holding visas or residence permits still valid at the time of this announcement.”

It added that the Chinese Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria will no longer issue a certified health declaration form for Nigerians.

Election officials part of ‘corrupt Democrat machine’ trying to rig – Trump

0

President Donald Trump has accused the Democratic Party of trying to rig the 2020 US presidential election in favour of candidate Joe Biden.

Trump asserts that in Wisconsin, Georgia, and elsewhere, he won the states “by a lot,” but that his victory is now being “whittled down.”

“We’ll not allow the corruption to steal the election,” he says. Results are being manufactured.

He repeats his claim that Democrats are “trying to steal an election, they’re trying to rig an election.”

“Democrats never believed they could win the election honestly,” he says, falsely claiming that millions of ballots for Biden have been “sent out.”

He says, without evidence, that election officials are part of a “corrupt Democrat machine” and are accepting votes without requiring “any identification whatsoever.”

He claims election officials in states such as Pennsylvania are “trying obviously to commit fraud” and keeping observers from overseeing the tabulation process.

Trump says people who are being banned from observing the vote count “are very unhappy and become somewhat violent.”

Immigration speaks on why it seized passport of #EndSARS advocate

0

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has spoken on why the passport of Modupe Odele, an #EndSARS advocate was seized saying that it had nothing to do with the campaign against police brutality.

Odele, a legal practitioner and member of the Feminist Coalition, had narrated how NIS officials stopped her from travelling out of the country.

The Feminist Coalition, which is the promoter of the #EndSARS protest, raised about N147 million for the cause.

The lawyer, who was actively involved in the campaign, offered legal aid to persons who were arrested during the demonstration.

Speaking on Thursday, Sunday James, NIS spokesman, said the passport was seized as part of a routine border assignment.

He said whenever a restriction is placed on any individual, the immigration service is responsible for its enforcement.

James added that the action is unconnected to the #EndSARS protests.

“As an enforcement agency in charge of border management, if there is an order restricting anybody from entry into the country, we enforce it without any prejudice. This doesn’t have anything to do with EndSARS protest or an individual, it is a routine assignment,” NAN quoted him to have said.

The federal government has been accused of generating a no fly list of #EndSARS promoters — but it denied this claim.

“The region is hugely important to us and with 70 per cent of the population of Saudi being under 30 we are excited about the potential to reach new fans and bring our existing fans around the world exciting racing from an incredible and historic location.

“We will be publishing our full provisional 2021 calendar in the coming weeks and this will be submitted to the World Motor Sport Council for approval.”

Saudi Arabia, which has staged recent high-profile boxing, football and golf events, has faced criticism from campaign groups for its human rights record.

In a statement, Amnesty International UK’s Head of Campaigns, Felix Jakens, said: “Formula One should realise that a Saudi Grand Prix in 2021 would be part of ongoing efforts to sportswash the country’s abysmal human rights record.

“In the lead-up to a race in Jeddah, we would urge all F1 drivers, owners and teams to consider speaking out about the human rights situation in the country, including by expressing solidarity with jailed human rights defenders.”

A spokesperson for F1 said: “For decades Formula 1 has worked hard be a positive force everywhere it races, including economic, social, and cultural benefits. Sports like Formula 1 are uniquely positioned to cross borders and cultures to bring countries and communities together to share the passion and excitement of incredible competition and achievement.

“We take our responsibilities very seriously and have made our position on human rights and other issues clear to all our partners and host countries who commit to respect human rights in the way their events are hosted and delivered.”

In the statement announcing what has been described as a “long-term partnership” between F1 and the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, sports minister Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki AlFaisal Al Saud said: “Saudi Arabia is accelerating forward and the speed, energy, excitement of Formula 1 perfectly reflects the transformational journey the country is on.

Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur Sinks Ludogorets Razgrad as Kane scores His 200th Goal

0

Harry Kane marked his 300th appearance for Tottenham with his 200th goal as Jose Mourinho’s side dominated a Europa League mismatch in Bulgaria.

Kane, 27, long-since cemented his place in the Spurs history books but few could have predicted his prodigious goalscoring rate when he came into the first team seven years ago.

Only 1960s legends Jimmy Greaves and Bobby Smith stand ahead of him in the club’s records and if he stays fit – and at the club – the England captain looks set to break record after record.

He could, and should, have already scored twice when he headed in a Lucas Moura corner to put Mourinho’s side ahead against Ludogorets.

Kane then set up Moura for Spurs’ second before being replaced at the interval as the Premier League side utterly dominated the multiple Bulgarian champions.

Mourinho was furious last week with his side’s insipid display in Antwerp and was rewarded with a controlled, ruthless first-half performance, but the hosts were able to reply early in the second half through Claudiu Keseru.

That was an anomaly though, as Giovani lo Celso’s tap-in secured a routine victory that puts Spurs back in contention in Group J.

Chasing down Greaves

Jimmy Greaves
Jimmy Greaves scored 266 goals for Spurs in 381 games – within reach?

Two hundred in 300 games, 101 in his last 135, 100 away from home – Kane’s goalscoring record bears comparison with the all-time greats.

Next in his sights at Tottenham is 1961 double-winner Smith, who scored 208 times between 1955 and 1964, with overall record holder Greaves at least another season away on 266.

The Ludogorets defence had no answer to Kane’s ability, but did see an uncharacteristic early miss with the striker blazing over after a fine pass from Harry Winks.

Kane then thumped the post from 25 yards but wiped the frustration from his face when he beat Gareth Bale to a corner to head in goal number 200 – 3,248 days after number one against Shamrock Rovers.

Mourinho is blessed with attacking talent this season, illustrated as Son Heung-min set up the third for Lo Celso just 17 seconds after coming on.

Bale showed promising signs of reaching full sharpness, starting the move for Moura’s goal and going close with a dipping free-kick, while Kane’s replacement Carlos Vinicius was raw but dangerous.

Steven Bergwijn also came on and Dele Alli was left on the sidelines as Spurs cruised to a needed win in the group.

Mourinho won the trophy with Manchester United in his only other Europa League campaign – could Tottenham end their silverware drought in Gdansk next May?

The stats

  • Tottenham picked up only their second away win in their last 10 away Europa League matches (W2 D2 L6).
  • Ludogorets have lost their last five Europa League matches, their worst ever losing run in the competition.
  • Tottenham’s Harry Kane is the top scoring Premier League player in all competitions this season, netting 12 goals in 13 appearances, with only Robert Lewandowski scoring as many for a team in Europe’s top five leagues (also 12 for Bayern Munich).
  • Harry Kane has been directly involved in 22 goals in just 13 appearances in all competitions for Spurs this season (12 goals, 10 assists).
  • Including qualifiers, Jose Mourinho has won 15 of his 21 matches in the Europa League with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur (71% – W15 D3 L3).
  • Ludogorets striker Claudiu Keseru has been directly involved in 12 goals in 15 Europa League group stage starts (10 goals, 2 assists)
