Abia Government Reacts To Sack Of Doctors…Says It Was Blown Out Of Proportion

0

Abia State government has reacted to the news making rounds that it had sacked all medical doctors under the employ of the Ministry of Health, describing it as a mistake blown out of proportion.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, while reacting to

the circular that called for the reapplication of doctors under the employ of the state’s ministry of health or risk losing their job on or before the expiration of the date given to them said it was blown out of proportion describing it as a mistake by the Acting Director for Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Hemuka Rock Biale which has been tackled.

Okoronkwo explained that the write up was a misrepresentation of the intended message which were directed to heads of agencies under the Ministry across the state, adding that there was no need for what she described as a brouhaha going on in the state.

She described the use of the word “sack” as circulated in the media to have a political undertone as there was nothing like that in the memo and described it as the hand work of mischief makers, noting that the Ministry cannot be conducting free medical services and sack the same doctors used for same. She said the tension has been doused and everything handled accordingly.

According to her “nobody is aversed to mistakes, for me i think it was issues around the use of sentences and construction of words rather than inciting other things. There was nothing around been sacked on the document so where did the word sack come from? So you see that there are political coloration to that and you can agree with me that you can’t be conducting free medical services and be sacking doctors”.

Okoronkwo said the Ministry remains committed to the actualization of the dreams of the present administration to making the health sector the envy of all.

Gusau Challenges League Boards To Take Nigeria’s Domestic Football To Next Level

0

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau on Monday charged chairmen and members of the newly-constituted Boards of the Nigeria National League, Nigeria Nation-Wide League One and the Nigeria Women Football League to come up with feasible plans and marketing strategies that will take Nigeria’s domestic football to new heights.

At the inauguration of the Boards inside the Conference Room of the NFF on Monday afternoon, Gusau also warned that the boards should have clear plans on how to sustain organization of matches and generally fulfil its responsibilities before the commencement of any season.

“We have picked men and women of high calibre, integrity and drive in order that we will have sustainable Leagues. We do not want a situation whereby a league will get to the middle of the season and be saying there is no longer money to run its programmes. We believe we have, in the new boards, men and women who can turn things around.

“I am indeed happy to be here performing this action this afternoon, at a time and period that our domestic football is gaining fresh momentum thanks to the impressive organization of the Nigeria Premier Football League in the recently-concluded season, and also the colour, razzmatazz and positive vibes from the Super 6 of the NPFL, the NWFL and the NNL, and the pre-season Super 8 Tournament that ended in Lagos at the weekend

“Therefore, the task of the new Boards of the different Leagues is to ensure that the momentum is not only sustained, but greatly enhanced in order to take Nigeria domestic football to new heights of excellence.”

The NFF supremo insisted that the Leagues are the drivers of the domestic game, and must do the job of transforming the game of football in Nigeria to a robust and profitable business.

“The Nigeria Football Federation is determined that our football should be developed from the grassroots, with so much focus on young players, young referees and young coaches. While we will put up the policies, the Boards of the Leagues will have to put in the energy and drive to implement these policies and generally improve the lot of the domestic game.

“Last year, the Federal Government promoted sports from the category of recreation to business. Football is therefore big business, and we must start to treat it as such. You all have the responsibility to develop workable marketing strategies and media plans to build viable products of the NNL, NWFL and the NLO.”

Responding, His Excellency Silas Agara, Mr. George Aluo and Ms Nkechi Obi all promised to work with their various board members to achieve a positive turnaround of the state of Nigeria’s domestic game.

Also at the occasion were Rt. Hon. Nse Essien (Member, NFF Executive Committee); Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme (Deputy General Secretary); Coach Augustine Eguavoen (Technical Director); Mr. Ademola Olajire (Director of Communications); Dr. Robinson Okosun (Deputy Director, Technical); Dr. Ayo Abdulrahaman (Deputy Director, Competitions); Mr Ali Abubakar Muhammad (Head of Member Associations) and; Mr. Barnabas Joro (Head of Protocol). Participants Praise NFF As CAF’s First-Ever Coaching Instructors’ Course Ends

0

Participants at the first-ever CAF Coaching Instructors’ Course held in Nigeria 6th -15th July have hailed the leadership of Nigeria Football Federation for working assiduously to ensure that the course became a reality.

The course content included classroom and practical modules handled by CAF Elite Instructor and FIFA Technical Expert Abrham Mebratu, and 15 of the best coaches in Nigeria were involved in the pace-setting train-the-trainers on-field drills and theoretical grills.

President of NFF, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, who attended the closing ceremony, said he was fulfilled that the first-ever course has finally taken place, opening the gate for more of such courses for Nigerian coaches to really develop themselves.

“Without any disrespect meant, the truth is that most of our coaches are just calling themselves ‘coaches’ without having any real grasp of modern tactics and techniques. With this course, we can now begin to see positive changes as the new instructors will be encouraged to organize courses for the benefit of colleagues.”

Augustine Eguavoen, NFF Technical Director, who was among the group of 15 participants, said: “It was an interesting experience for me. Now, we have 15 coaching instructors in Nigeria who can organize coaching courses for their colleagues. It is a great feeling and our coaches will be the better for it.”

Eguavoen and staff worked their socks off for weeks putting the dots and marks in the right places, and he says he feels fulfilled that everything went as planned.

“Mr Mebratu is a genius, a hard working one at that. Tireless and well-grounded. I believe that our coaches, including myself, gained so much from the course,” Eguavoen added.

The group of 15 also included president of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, Isah Ladan Bosso (who recently took the Flying Eagles to the quarter finals of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina), former Super Eagles’ captain Daniel Amokachi, Alphonsus Dike, Stanley Eguma, Wemimo Oni Mathew, Henry Abiodun, Sam John Obuh, Edema Fuludu, Bala Nikyu and Lawrence Ndaks.

Also at the closing ceremony were NFF 1st Vice President, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu and Executive Committee members, Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa and Alhaji Babagana Kalli.

APC crisis: Tinubu considers Adamu’s replacement

0

AFTER Senator Abdullahi Adamu resigned as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday, signs surfaced that President Bola Tinubu is “actively shopping” for his replacement. According to reliable sources, some of the president’s men were believed to be hunting for a suitable replacement for Adamu immediately after Tinubu was elected in February of this year.

While Tinubu was said to have soft-pedaled shortly after being sworn in, preferring to take his time before attempting to oust Adamu, some party chieftains were said to have pressed former Osun State governor and Interim National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, to secure the president’s approval to remove Adamu immediately.

The development happened on the same day that all of the ruling party’s financial accounts were blocked, just days before the struggling chairman was given the door. Following Adamu’s departure, some party insiders stated that the president already has a replacement in mind but is engaging with various stakeholders to ensure that his pick is acceptable to everybody.

Senator Abubakar Kyari, the party’s acting national chairman, told media following the National Working Committee, NWC at the meeting said the APC constitution foresaw a circumstance like this and had established provisions for filling all vacancies. He stated that all vacancies in the NWC, including Adamu’s now-vacant position, will be filled soon.

“There are procedures for filling the vacancies,” Kyari added, “and I think the procedures, we will kick start that very soon.” Kyari, who formally verified Adamu’s resignation, also announced Senator Iyiola Omisore’s departure as National Secretary. He also stated that sessions of the National Caucus and the National Executive Committee NEC, which were previously scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, had been rescheduled.

Earlier, the party’s Deputy National Organizing Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, confirmed Adamu’s resignation and stated that the NWC expected Omisore to quit with Adamu. Omisore was reportedly banned from joining the NWC meeting presided over by Kyari, despite the fact that his parking lot had been taken over by his deputy. Omisore, who left the secretariat the moment he walked in, said he was going to meet Adamu, adding that he did not know why the former Nasarawa Governor was not at the secretariat.

Following these resignations, Duru stated that the APC, as a respectable political party, will be unaffected by current events.  The list of misdeeds against Adamu is extensive, but his issue began with his birth. Adamu, who was never a candidate for the party’s National Chairmanship, was imposed on the APC in March 2022 by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu Resigns

0

Abdullahi Adamu, national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned from office on Monday.

According to a source, Adamu resigned to save himself from being removed from office.

A source who was privy to the details of the resignation said that Adamu was forced out over many issues which included his non-support for President Bola Tinubu.

According to the source, since Tinubu assumed office, some leaders within the party have been calling for his resignation threatening to remove him at the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting if he fails to resign.

The party’s NEC meeting was initially billed to hold July 10 and 11 but was postponed to Tuesday and Wednesday this week due to the president’s international engagements.

The source further revealed that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu was one of the people who told Adamu to resign because he had become a liability to the party.

He was however forced to step down as the party chairman after Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma told him that if he didn’t resign, they will remove him at the next NEC meeting.

Those who are calling for Adam’s resignation accused him of working against the President during the party’s presidential primaries, publicly supporting former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan and failing to fully back Tinubu even after securing the party’s ticket.

Adamu was also accused of mismanaging the party’s funds.
