Recall that the Commission had promised Nigerians an improved process in the state assembly elections following issues that occured from the Presidential and National Assembly elections held on 25th February 2023.
In keeping with this promise, Okoye said the commission had meetings with our Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) and service providers, and the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to review processes and procedures to ensure more optimal delivery of personnel and materials to various locations.
He also added that for difficult and unforeseen circumstances outside the Commission’s control, they did their best to respond, especially where processes were disrupted by actors as such diabolical behaviour did not only affect citizens but also impacted on the Commission’s officials and processes.
Nevertheless, INEC express concerns over its inability to deploy to enable citizens to vote where there were disruption of the process the Commission assures Nigerians that they are keeping their eyes on those areas and would not hesitate to remobilize where the outcome of the election is affected.

The All Progressive congress, in Adamawa have Drawn the attention of the INEC Chairman, Security Agencies on Attempt by the Peoples Democratic Party to disrupt final Result Collation in the state.
ADAMAWA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION – EXECUTIVE BRIGANDAGE MUST NOT PREVAIL AGAINST THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE
We draw urgent attention of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and our security services to massive thuggery, violence, intimidation and undue pressure by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) calculated to disrupt final collation and announcement of result of the Governorship election in Adamawa State.
Election results show a clear and decisive victory for Senator Aishatu Dahiru (Binani), the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate. Faced with imminent and certain prospect of loss in the election, thugs and political actors led by incumbent Governor, and Candidate of the PDP, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, have unleashed heavily armed thugs to disrupt further collation of result and subvert the will of Adamawa people as expressed at the polls. The Governor is reported to have torn result sheets at the collation centre in a show of unprecedented impunity and executive brigandage.
We are well aware of the massive pressure on INEC and law enforcement authorities to cave in to the inordinate demands of the PDP to subvert final collation and announcement of result. However, we are supremely confident that INEC and our law enforcement authorities will stand firm and conclude the election process in the State as required by law.
The result of election in Fufore Local Government Area of the state must not be tampered with as Senator Aishatu Dahiru (Binani) holds a clear, unassailable lead, only awaiting final collation and declaration by INEC.
Nigeria is on the cusp of a major democratic record with the election and emergence of the first female Governor of a State in the country. We urge all well meaning Nigerians to stand together to protect and uphold this historic victory for women and our country.

Former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha; National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Samuel Anyanwu; the state Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Festus Onyekwulisi, have criticised the state Assembly election in the 27 councils of the state.
Ihedioha, in a statement issued, yesterday, and signed by his media aide, Chibuike Onyeukwu, described the election as “rape of democracy in the state. He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of subverting democracy in the state Assembly poll, alleging collaboration with security operatives to cart away electoral materials.
The statement reads: “The horrible incident at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Aboh Mbaise Council, where security agencies, in connivance with compromised personnel of the Commission, carted away electoral materials can best be described as a rape of democracy.
“This is, no doubt, a state sponsored wickedness and determination to execute an evil plot. “Verifiable records show that PDP swept the polls across the state, but agents of darkness have, again, denied the people their constitutional right to choose their leaders.
“We wish to call on the Chairman of the electoral Commission and heads of various security agencies to urgently halt this descent to a failed state, and conclude this exercise fairly and creditably by allowing votes to count.”
Similarly, the PDP’s national scribe, in a statement issued, yesterday, by his Special Adviser (Media), Ikenna Onuoha, said: “National Secretary of the PDP, Anyanwu, urges INEC to release authentic results of March 18 state Assembly election to reflect how Imo people voted.
“He maintains that should INEC fail to do this, it will be concluded that officials of the Commission were deliberately compromised with agents of the ruling party to subvert the mandate of the people.”
In another development, the State Chairman of LP, Onyekwulisi, accused security operatives and others of disallowing agents of the party to be part of collation and other required activities, alleging: “Information reaching our Situation Room has it that the APC led Sole Administrators (SOLADs), in collaboration with their security personnel and touts, have refused LP agents access into the 27 councils’ collation centres across the state.
Imo State House of Assembly results as it stands.
“We call on INEC, the police, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and other relevant agencies to take note and call them to order. This is because we shall do everything possible to resist them from subverting the will of the people, which they expressed through the ballots.”
Dismissing the allegations, the APC, in a statement issued, yesterday, described the PDP as a “rotten, rejected and forsaken” party, struggling to accept defeat.
MEANWHILE, the PDP state Assembly candidate for Aboh Mbaise Council, Princewill Amuchie, has urged INEC to uphold justice by declaring him the authentic winner of Saturday’s poll in the area. The Guardian gathered that INEC had, yesterday, declared the candidate of APC, Edward Obinna, winner of the election amidst tight security.
But speaking to journalists in Owerri, Amuchie insisted he won the election after garnering majority votes in all the polling units in the area. He said he would explore available legal means to recover the mandate willingly giving to him by his constituents if the electoral umpire failed to yield to his demand.
