Edo Polytechnic Halts Fee Payment Requirement For NELFUND Loan Applicants

The Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, has temporarily halted its policy requiring students to provide proof of fee payment before writing examinations, specifically for those applying for student loans through the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

The institution’s Rector, Engr. Sylvester Omoruyi, made this announcement during a sensitization program organized by NELFUND at the polytechnic’s main campus in Usen, Edo State.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, raised concerns over the polytechnic’s delay in submitting student data, which is essential to kickstart the registration process for loan applications.

Represented by the Director of Loan Allocation and Distribution, Lami Suwaid, Sawyerr encouraged the institution to leverage the new registration cycle for the 2024/2025 academic session to ensure more students enroll in the scheme.

He further revealed that NELFUND had enrolled 259 institutions in the 2023/2024 academic year, disbursing billions of naira in student loans. However, he noted that institutions in the South-South and South-East regions recorded the lowest registration rates and called for increased participation.
