The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, under the leadership of Chief Uche Nnaji, has joined forces with the Grand Challenge Nigeria (GCNg) Project to foster a knowledge-based economy through local innovation. This partnership aligns with the government’s vision of creating a resilient, knowledge-driven economy by prioritizing innovative solutions to Nigeria’s unique challenges.
During the recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing in Abuja, Nnaji emphasized that the MoU is a strategic step toward promoting innovation to support the nation’s economic growth, human capital development, and social welfare. According to a statement by the ministry’s Public Relations Director, Atuora Obed, the national launch of the GCNg project, set for November 18, 2024, will mark a significant advancement in achieving President Bola Tinubu’s vision of leveraging science and technology to drive economic transformation, infrastructure enhancement, and improved quality of life.
At the event, Prof. Salisu Abubakar, head of the GCNg delegation, explained that the initiative is part of the Global Grand Challenge network, which is dedicated to advancing innovation for health and developmental progress in Nigeria. He noted that GCNg aims to equip Nigerian researchers, scientists, and practitioners to create impactful, locally tailored solutions for the country’s needs.
