Governorship Polls: INEC Vows To Review Process

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, has ruled out the behaviour of thugs in the just concluded governorship and state assembly elections.

It states that there will be a thorough review of the results as some of its staff were abducted, harassed, intimidated, hospitalized and in one case killed.

This was made know to the media by the national Commissioner on information and voter education Festus Okoye in Abuja at the national situation room.

Armed Political Thugs Abduct INEC Officials in Imo

Recall that the Commission had promised Nigerians an improved process in the state assembly elections following issues that occured from the Presidential and National Assembly elections held on 25th February 2023.

In keeping with this promise, Okoye said the commission had meetings with our Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) and service providers, and the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to review processes and procedures to ensure more optimal delivery of personnel and materials to various locations.

He also added that for difficult and unforeseen circumstances outside the Commission’s control, they did their best to respond, especially where processes were disrupted by actors as such diabolical behaviour did not only affect citizens but also impacted on the Commission’s officials and processes.

Nevertheless, INEC express concerns over its inability to deploy to enable citizens to vote where there were disruption of the process the Commission assures Nigerians that they are keeping their eyes on those areas and would not hesitate to remobilize where the outcome of the election is affected.
