The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a suspected counterfeit drinks operation at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, seizing products valued at over ₦2 billion and arresting two suspects.
The operation, carried out on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at Zamfara Plaza, BBA Trade Fair Complex, along the Badagry Expressway in Ojo, Lagos State, exposed more than 20 stores allegedly involved in illegal beverage production and distribution.
According to NAFDAC, its Investigation and Enforcement Directorate conducted the raid following credible intelligence about suspected counterfeit activities within the complex.
NAFDAC Uncovers Over 20 Illegal Stores

The agency disclosed that the suspected operations were concealed inside makeshift stores originally used as parking spaces.
During the raid, enforcement officers reportedly discovered activities involving the blending and counterfeiting of popular alcoholic beverages, alteration of expiry information on drinks and storage of banned imported products.
NAFDAC said expired and unsafe beverages were allegedly being revalidated to make them appear suitable for resale to unsuspecting consumers.
Footage released by the agency showed cartons of energy drinks, branded alcoholic beverage bottles, corks, labels, chemicals and other packaging materials recovered from the facility.
Products bearing names such as Bullet Energy Drink, Don Julio and Jameson were visible or identified in reports of the operation.
Two Suspects Arrested as Investigation Continues
NAFDAC confirmed that two suspects were apprehended during the enforcement exercise.
The agency also disclosed that products valued at more than ₦2 billion were seized and evacuated from the affected premises.
The discovery has raised concerns about the distribution of suspected counterfeit drinks, particularly alcoholic beverages and energy drinks that may have been repackaged or relabelled without proper safety checks.
An official involved in the operation alleged that some of the products were distributed through arrangements involving bars and nightclubs.
Investigations are expected to establish the full extent of the suspected activities and identify others who may have been involved.
NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Against Counterfeit Drinks
The regulatory agency warned that the circulation of expired, adulterated or counterfeit beverages could endanger public health.
Consumers are advised to examine product packaging, expiry dates and seals carefully before purchasing drinks, especially from unfamiliar sources.
NAFDAC also encouraged Nigerians to report suspicious manufacturing, product revalidation or the sale of potentially unsafe beverages.
Reports can be made through the agency’s official complaints line, 0800-1-NAFDAC (0800-1-623322).
The latest enforcement operation highlights the continuing challenge of counterfeit beverages in Nigeria and the importance of regulatory oversight in protecting consumers.
