NAFDAC Urges Caution on Recalled Nivea Deodorant

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a caution to Nigerians regarding the recent recall of Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on Deodorant (50ml), a product known for its 48-hour protection in African climates. This alert follows a notification from the European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-food Products (RAPEX) in Brussels.

In a statement released on Thursday, NAFDAC identified the affected product’s batch number as 93529610. The agency revealed that this deodorant contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a chemical banned in cosmetics due to risks of reproductive harm, potential health effects on unborn children, and possible skin irritation or burns.

The recalled product, manufactured in Germany, can be identified by its Bar Code Number 42299882. NAFDAC advises importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to avoid handling, selling, or using the affected batch within Nigeria’s supply chain.

Those with the recalled deodorant batch are advised to stop usage or sales and return any stock to the nearest NAFDAC office. NAFDAC also encourages healthcare professionals and consumers to report any adverse reactions to regulated products through their nearest NAFDAC office, email at pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, online E-reporting platforms at www.nafdac.gov.ng, or via the Med-safety app available on Android and iOS.
