NIS Sends Passport Intervention Team To UK To Clear Pending Applications For Nigerians

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has deployed a dedicated Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom to help process and issue pending, new and renewal passport applications for Nigerians living in the country.

The move is part of efforts by the immigration service to simplify and improve passport services for Nigerians in the diaspora.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, directed the Comptroller-General of Immigration, K. N. Nandap, to send the intervention team from the NIS headquarters to the UK.

The team is scheduled to arrive in the United Kingdom on August 10, 2026, and will work alongside the Nigerian High Commission to process eligible passport applications.

As part of the exercise, members of the team will visit selected cities across the UK to conduct passport enrolment and processing, allowing applicants in different locations to access the service without necessarily travelling long distances.

The intervention will cover Nigerians with pending passport applications, those applying for passports for the first time, and existing passport holders with less than one year remaining before their passports expire who wish to renew them.

Applicants attending the enrolment exercise are expected to bring their completed application forms and proof of payment.

The NIS said the specific schedule, including the cities to be visited, dates, venues, enrolment times and other arrangements, would be announced separately.

“Applicants are therefore advised not to proceed to any location until the relevant schedule has been officially communicated and to monitor the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom for further details,” the agency stated.

For enquiries and complaints, applicants can contact the NIS through passport.london@immigration.gov.ng or the WhatsApp-only line, +234 916 087 8000.

The agency said all its digital passport application platforms, including the Contactless Passport Application System, will remain operational throughout the intervention exercise.

Applicants can also continue to use the home delivery service for their passports.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to efficient, transparent and responsive passport Service Delivery to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.”
