The NSC said the latest disbursement represents the fifth payment since the quarterly training grants programme began in 2025.

It is also the third payment made under the scheme in 2026.

Eligible athletes receive grants of $10,000, $5,000 or $3,000, depending on their performance and the selection criteria established by the Commission.

The programme aims to provide financial stability for athletes preparing for international competitions.

By supporting training expenses, the NSC hopes to reduce the financial pressures that could affect athletes’ preparation and performance.

The Commission pointed to recent international achievements as evidence of progress in its sports development strategy.

It highlighted the performances of Nigerian athletes at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, alongside the achievements of Samuel Ogazi and Nathaniel Ezekiel.

The NSC also referenced Team Nigeria’s performance at the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Commission, these achievements demonstrate the importance of providing athletes with structured preparation and financial assistance.

Quarterly Grants Remain Central to Sports Development

The initiative focuses on improving athlete welfare, supporting high-performance training and strengthening Nigeria’s position in international competitions.

The Commission maintained that sustained financial support would help athletes prepare more effectively and compete at the highest level.
