FEC approves $1.5bn for rehabilitation of Port Harcourt refinery

0

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the sum of $1.5 billion for the rehabilitation of the largest refining company in the country, the Port Harcourt Refinery.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, disclosed this to State House Correspondents after the weekly virtual FEC meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to the Minister, the rehabilitation will be done in three phases of 18, 24 and 44 months, adding that the contract was awarded to an Italian company, Tecnimont S.p.A, a global leader in refinery maintenance.

He said the funding has three components from Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), budgetary allocations provisions and Afreximbank.

The Minister also assured that local content is fully involved in the job.

“The Ministry of Petroleum Resources presented a memo on the rehabilitation of Port Harcourt refinery for the sum of 1.5 billion, and that memo was $1.5 billion and it was approved by council today.

“So we are happy to announce that the rehabilitation of productivity refinery will commence in three phases. The first phase is to be completed in 18 months, which will take the refinery to a production of 90 percent of its nameplate capacity.

“The second phase is to be completed in 24 months and all the final stages will be completed in 44 months and consultations are approved and I believe that this is good news for Nigeria,” he said.

Addressing the problem of refineries maintenance, which has dogged the nation’s four refineries over the years, Sylva said the refineries would be handed over to operations and maintenance firms to manage for the country.

He added that the management aspect for the refurbished refineries was part of the conditions given by lenders of the funds for the maintenance project, adding that the condition had been embedded in the agreement.

“On the other very germane question about operations and maintenance. That has been a big problem for our refineries, as we all know, that was also exhaustively discussed in Council and the agreement is that we’re going to put a professional Operations and Maintenance company to manage the refinery when it has been rehabilitated.

“In any case, it is actually one of the conditions presented by the lenders, because the lenders say they can only give us the money if we have a professional operations and maintenance company, and that already is embedded in our discussions with the lenders and we cannot go back on that.

He said the issue of funding for the project had been sorted out, explaining that “I want to answer that the funds are all in place and work will commence forthwith.

“There are components various components to the funding: there is funding from NNPC internally generated revenue, there is funding from the budget and there is also debt funding. For the lenders, we are dealing with AFREXIM and they are very committed to us, we have actually concluded discussions with AFREXIM,” he said.

On how the country settled for an Italian company, instead of the original builders, he said “we found out from the original refinery builders that they are not in the business of rehabilitating refineries, they are in the business of building refineries. So they actually pointed us to a rehabilitation company that we’re dealing with now.”

He also said the interest of local contractors has been covered in the maintenance project, saying “NCDMB is fully part of the contracting process and has safeguarded the interest, adequately, of our local contractors, so our local people will be fully involved with the Tecnimont S.p.A.”

He assured that the other refineries in Kaduna and Warri would also be rehabilitated, explaining that their works would commence before the end of the current administration.

“On the last question, which is when the other refineries will also be rehabilitated? Discussions are ongoing. We want to take one at a time and I want to assure you that before the lifetime of this administration expires, work on all the refineries would have at least commenced,” he said.

Chelsea beat Atletico to reach UCL last eight

0

Chelsea moved into the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in seven years with a 3-0 aggregate win over Atletico Madrid.

Having established a slender first-leg lead, Emerson Palmieri’s late strike sealed the win after Hakim Ziyech had earlier put the hosts firmly in control with a low effort after good work from Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.

Until then their dominance in possession had not translated into chances in front of goal and in a nervy opening, they also appeared fortunate to survive a penalty appeal after visiting winger Yannick Carrasco was pulled back by Blues captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

But Italian official Daniele Orsato waved away the claim and the incident was not examined by VAR.

Atletico knocked Liverpool out of the competition in dramatic fashion at the same stage last term, but the La Liga leaders rarely looked capable of recovering after Ziyech’s goal.

Instead Chelsea, who remain unbeaten in 13 games since Thomas Tuchel took charge, had opportunities to extend their lead before Emerson’s stoppage-time effort and deservedly progressed against an Atletico side that had Stefan Savic sent off late on for elbowing Antonio Rudiger.

Why Apapa gridlock persists despite e-Call-up systems – official

0

Residents and motorists along Oshodi Apapa Expressway have continued to languish in pain as activities of trucks and tanker drivers paralysed traffic movement along the axis despite introduction of electronic Call Up System in the port operation.

Meanwhile, an official of the traffic management enforcement team of the Lagos State who preferred anonymity, blamed the current gridlock to lack of coordination on the part of Nigerian Port Authority and Officials of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG on operation of the e-call up system.

According to the source , “We have some challenges in controlling traffic particularly at Oshodi-Apapa Expressway axis presently..

“The reasons are not far fetched. Firstly, we are handling the case in phases. We are presently dealing with issue of gridlock from Ijora- Area B axis into the NPA.

“We can’t be in both places at the same time. We are moving into Oshodi- Apapa any moment from now. Alsontge issue of uncompleted road construction work is also impending traffic in the axis.

“Secondly, the contractor, HITECH, handling road construction has assured us to fast track completion of the work which we expected them to deliver in the next two weeks to alleviate traffic movement on the axis.

“Thirdly, you will notice that majority of trucks along Oshodi- Apapa Expressway are tankers because they were originally not in the e-call up system arrangement.

“What we are currently doing is to harmonise the tanker operations into the current arrangement. We have concluded plans to engage them on the need to key into the present arrangement before we begin enforcement proper of impounding their vehicles.”

Meanwhile, a stakeholders’ meeting will be held today, Thursday, by Apapa property owners and residents to chart the way forward in addressing the current gridlock despite introduction of e- call up system.

The meeting which i is expected to make far reaching decisions to be binding on stakeholders.

Recall that trucks had on Monday, stormed Oshodi-Apapa Expressway and Ijora- Apapa highways following report of collapsed Electronic-Call up system machine, resulting in total gridlock as residents and motorists were stranded for several hours on the road.

The situation was worsened as traffic law enforcement agents abandoned traffic control to miscreants and officials of port unions. No official of the newly created Lagos State Special Traffic Management Enforcement Team could be seen at the gridlock points.

NPA had commenced the new electronic- Call Up System into the administration of port operations from February 27, 2021, as part of measures to ensure free flow of traffic in Apapa access port areas and environs

Head of the Lagos State Special Traffic Management Enforcement Team, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, had also blamed the development on communication breakdown, even as the team uncovered scandal involving counterfeiting of call up tickets, tagged; “Eto” by truck drivers and owners to beat security agent put on ground manage traffic.

However, with this development there seems to be no end in sight over Apapa gridlock on the shortest possible time.

John Magufuli, President of Tanzania Dies At 61

0

President of Tanzania John Magufuli has died, the country’s vice president announced, after weeks of uncertainty over his health and whereabouts.

In a televised address to the nation late on Wednesday, Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan said the 61-year-old president had died of a “heart condition”, which he had suffered for a decade, at a hospital in Dar-Es-Salaam.

Magufuli had first been briefly admitted to the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute on March 6, but was subsequently discharged, Hassan said on state television. But he was rushed to hospital again on March 14 after feeling unwell.

After the death was announced, opposition leader Zitto Kabwe said he had spoken to Hassan to offer condolences for Magufuli’s death.

“The nation will remember him for his contribution to the development of our country,” Kabwe said in a statement published on Twitter.

According to Tanzania’s Constitution, Hassan, 61, should assume the presidency for the remainder of the five-year term that Magufuli began serving last year after winning a second term.

A vocal COVID-19 sceptic, Magufuli had last appeared in public on February 27 and top government officials had denied that he was in ill health, even as speculation swirled online that he was sick and possibly incapacitated from illness.

Magufuli had long downplayed the severity of COVID-19, rather urging Tanzanians to pray, use steam inhalation and embrace local remedies to protect themselves from the respiratory disease.

Nicknamed the “Bulldozer”, Magufuli was elected in 2015 on promises to tackle corruption and boost infrastructure development. He won a second term in a disputed poll last year.

Russia Recalls Us Ambassador After Biden Threatens Sanctions

0

Russia on Wednesday recalled its ambassador to the United States to Moscow to reportedly “consult on the future of US-Russia relations” stressing it wants to avoid declining ties.

According to Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement, Russia’s ambassador Anatoly Antonov, has been asked to come to Moscow for consultations and analysis on the next step and the direction to take in the context of US-Russia Ties.

The latest incident comes after U.S President Joe Biden said Vladimir Putin would be held accountable for allegedly meddling in US elections.

In an interview with ABC News, President Joe Biden was asked about intelligence that said Putin tried to harm his candidacy in the November 2020 election to which Biden replied that Putin would pay the price.

Biden also agreed to insinuations that Putin, who has been accused of poisoning political opponents, is a “killer.

But foreign ministry spokeswoman said Russia was interested in preventing ties from deteriorating which would be irreversible and which she says Washington has driven into a dead end in recent years.

The foreign ministry did not make any reference to Biden’s remarks on Putin, but stressed that the country would closely examine and analyze results of Biden’s first 100 days in office.

Growing your Hair faster is possible

0

Several factors play a role in how fast hair grows, some of which a person cannot change. However, there are some steps a person can take to slow down hair loss and improve the appearance of their hair.

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) note that hair grows quickly and that a person can expect their hair to grow around 6 inches per year.

The Trichological Society, who is based in the United Kingdom, says that the average rate of growth is 0.5-1.7 centimeters per month. The rate of growth can depend on a person’s Genetics, Age, Hormones and Sex.

For the most part, these are things that people cannot control.

However, diet and nutrition can affect how healthy the hair is, and some deficiencies can cause hair growth to slow down.

Maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle may help improve hair growth and hair appearance for some people.

It is important to note that hair products and vitamin supplements are unlikely to make any noticeable changes to the growth rate.

Maintain a healthy diet

According to The Trichological Society, hair reflects the overall condition of the body.

For example, brittle hair or hair that has stopped growing may be a symptom of a nutritional deficiency.

Also, rapid weight loss or a decrease in protein intake can lead to a condition called telogen effluvium (TE). TE is one of the most common causes of widespread hair loss.

The Trichological Society adds that a person’s hair will typically grow back once they have addressed the nutritional deficiency.

Vitamins

One 2016 article notes that vitamin B2, or riboflavin, deficiencies have associations with hair loss.

Some sources of vitamin B2 include: Eggs, Organ meats, Green vegetables, such as spinach or broccoli, Fortified cereals and bread.

Additionally, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) state that vitamin B7, or biotin, deficiencies can lead to thinning of the hair and hair loss all over the body.

Some sources of vitamin B7 include: Eggs, Salmon, Pork, Sunflower seeds, Sweet potato, Almonds, Spinach, Broccoli, Dairy products, such as milk and plain yogurt

They also note that folate deficiencies can cause changes in the color of the hair. Folate is present naturally in foods, while manufacturers typically add folic acid to foods.

Some sources of folate include: Asparagus, Spinach, Brussels sprouts, Oranges, Peanuts, Kidney beans.

A person can find folic acid in: enriched bread, fortified cereals, fortified corn masa flour.

Protein

According to one 2016 article, lack of protein can lead to hair fragility and brittleness. It can also lead to hair loss.

Cysteine, which is an amino acid, is important in the rate of hair growth.

Some sources of amino acids include: Cottage cheese, Yogurt, Fish, Poultry, Soya, Lentils, Peas, Broad beans, Pumpkin seeds, Sunflower seeds, Pistachios, Peanuts, Grain products, including buckwheat and brown rice

Caffeine product can also be helpful

One 2019 comprehensive review suggested that caffeine can: promote cellular division, promote hair shaft elongation, and increase the expression of the hair growth promoter insulin-like growth factor 1

It also noted that female hair follicles are more sensitive to caffeine.

In the review, research into caffeine shampoo indicated that it could reduce the amount of hairs that fall out during combing and slow down hair loss progression.

As a result, topical use of caffeine may help reduce hair loss. However, the studies are limited and have a lack of quantitative data.

It is important to point out that, according to The Trichological Society, hair products such as shampoos are unlikely to make a noticeable difference in hair growth.

Use essential oils

In recent years, several studies have looked into which essential oils have properties that can encourage hair growth.

One 2014 study found that peppermint oil was more effective at promoting hair growth than saline, jojoba oil, and minoxidil. Minoxidil is a medication that doctors prescribe to treat high blood pressure and hair loss.

A 2016 study into the use of lavender oil in mice found that it improved hair growth by delaying the phase at which the hair starts to fall out, as did sandalwood oil.

Rosemary oil may also be as effective as minoxidil in restoring hair growth, as researchers found in one 2015 study.

Have a scalp massage

Although scalp massage can help relieve stress, the act of stimulating the scalp could also boost hair growth.

A 2016 study looked at how performing a 4-minute scalp massage every day for 24 weeks affected hair growth in a group of Japanese males.

The researchers found that there was a significant improvement in hair thickness at the end of the study, suggesting that boosting circulation to the follicles by massage could help promote thicker, healthier looking hair.

More recent research from 2019 found that 68.9% of 340 participants reported “hair loss stabilization or regrowth” after performing scalp massages twice per day.

Quit smoking

Smoking reduces circulation, which means that hair follicles are not getting the nutrients they need from the blood.

A 2020 study into early onset alopecia found that those who smoke were more than twice more likely to have thinning hair than those who do not smoke.

Smoking is also more likely to cause the hair to gray prematurely.

At the end of the day, the speed at which a person’s hair grows depends on genetics, sex, age, and hormones.

However, a person can maintain the health and growth rate of their hair. Maintaining a healthy diet and exploring natural remedies, such as scalp massage and essential oil use, may help improve the hair’s appearance.

A person can also maintain the health of their hair through everyday care.

EU Proposes Covid-19 ‘Digital Certificates’ To Allow Travel

0

The European Union is proposing to produce vaccine certificates aimed at facilitating travel freely across the 27-nation bloc by the summer.

The proposal which presented Wednesday by the Union’s executive body and comes as several countries which rely on Tourism for revenue are eagerly expecting the return of visitors amid the covid-19 pandemic.

The commission is proposing that the “Digital Green Certificates”, to be issued free of charge would be given to EU residents who can prove they have been vaccinated, or have tested negative for the virus or are able to prove that they recovered from it.

The proposal is due to be discussed next week during a meeting of EU leaders, although the debate has so far proved to be divisive. But if agreed by the EU leaders, the proposal will need to be approved by EU lawmakers to enter into force.

Countries like Greece and Spain have been pushing for the quick introduction of the measure, which according to proponents of the plan will avoid quarantines and testing requirements.

However, several other member-states including France argue the introduction of such passes would be hasty and discriminatory at the moment since many EU citizens have not had access to the vaccines yet.

Meanwhile the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, less than 5% of European citizens have received the covid-19 vaccines.

However European Commission has expressed confidence it will be able to achieve its 70% goal of vaccinating the blocs adult population by summer end.

Already Europe’s aviation sector is urging EU governments to ensure the certificates are operational in time for the peak of the summer travel season.

Secret to getting well sooner

0

It’s true that food can do much more than provide energy. And when you’re sick, eating the right foods is more important than ever. Certain foods have powerful properties that can support your body while it’s fighting an illness. They may relieve certain symptoms and even help you heal more quickly.

Avocados

Avocados are an unusual fruit because it is low in carbs but high in fat.

In particular, it is high in healthy monounsaturated fat, the same type of fat found in olive oil.

Avocados are also a good source of fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Avocados are a great food when sick because they provide calories, vitamins and minerals that your body needs. They’re also soft, relatively bland and easy to eat.

Because of the healthy fats avocados contain, especially oleic acid, they help to decrease inflammation while also playing a role in immune function.

Leafy, Green Vegetables

It’s important to get all of the vitamins and minerals your body needs while sick, but that can be difficult to do with a typical “sick foods” diet.

Leafy green vegetables such as spinach, romaine lettuce and kale are packed full of vitamins, minerals and fiber. They are especially good sources of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K and folate.

Dark green vegetables are also loaded with beneficial plant compounds. These act as antioxidants to protect cells from damage and help fight inflammation.

Leafy greens have also been used for their antibacterial properties.

Add spinach to an omelet for a quick, nutrient-packed, protein rich meal. You can also try tossing a handful of kale into a fruit smoothie.

Oatmeal

Like bananas, oatmeal is bland and easy to eat while providing the calories, vitamins and minerals you need when sick. It also contains some protein — about 5 grams in a 1/2 cup.

Oatmeal has some other powerful health benefits, including stimulating the immune system and improving blood sugar control.

However, avoid buying artificially flavored oatmeal with lots of added sugar. Instead, add a small amount of honey or fruit to provide even more benefits.

Spicy Foods

Spicy foods like chili peppers contain capsaicin, which causes a hot, burning sensation when touched.

When high enough in concentration, capsaicin can have a desensitizing effect and is often used in pain-relieving gels and patches.

Many people report that eating spicy foods causes a runny nose, breaking up mucus and clearing out the sinus passages.

While few studies have tested this effect, capsaicin does seem to thin out mucus, making it easier to expel. Nasal capsaicin sprays have been used with good results to relieve congestion and itching. However, capsaicin also stimulates mucus production, so you may just end up with a runny nose instead of a stuffed one.

Cough relief may be another benefit of capsaicin. One study found that taking capsaicin capsules improved symptoms in people with a chronic cough by making them less sensitive to irritation.

However, to achieve these results, you probably would need to eat spicy food daily for several weeks.

Additionally, don’t try anything spicy if you already have an upset stomach. Spicy food can cause bloating, pain and nausea in some people.

Ginger

Ginger is probably best known for its anti-nausea effects.

It has also been shown to effectively relieve nausea related to pregnancy and cancer treatment.

What’s more, ginger acts similar to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It has also demonstrated antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-cancer effects.

So if you are feeling nauseous or throwing up, ginger is the best food available to relieve these symptoms. Even if you aren’t nauseous, ginger’s many other beneficial effects make it one of the top foods to eat when sick.

Use fresh ginger in cooking, brew some ginger tea or pick up some ginger ale from the store to get these benefits. Just make sure that whatever you’re using contains real ginger or ginger extract, not just ginger flavor.

Honey

Honey has potent antibacterial effects, likely because of its high content of antimicrobial compounds.

In fact, it has such strong antibacterial effects that it was used in wound dressings by the ancient Egyptians, and is still used for this purpose today Some evidence suggests that honey can also stimulate the immune system.

These qualities alone make honey an excellent to eat when sick, especially if you have a sore throat caused by a bacterial infection.

Many studies show that honey suppresses coughing in children. However, remember that honey should not be given to children under 12 months old.

Mix about half a teaspoon (2.5 ml) of honey with a warm glass of milk, water or a cup of tea. This is a hydrating, cough-soothing, antibacterial drink

Chicken Soup

Chicken soup has been recommended as a remedy for the common cold for hundreds of years — and for good reason.

It’s an easy-to-eat source of vitamins, minerals, calories and protein, which are nutrients your body needs in larger quantities while you’re sick.

Chicken soup is also an excellent source of fluids and electrolytes, both of which are necessary for hydration if you’re making frequent trips to the bathroom.

Your body will also need even more fluids if you have a fever.

What’s more, one study found chicken soup to be more effective at clearing nasal mucus than any other liquid studied. This means it’s a natural decongestant, perhaps in part because it gives off hot steam.

Another reason for this effect is that chicken contains the amino acid cysteine. N-acetyl-cysteine, a form of cysteine, breaks apart mucus and has anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Chicken soup also inhibits the action of neutrophils, which are white blood cells that may cause symptoms such as coughing and a stuffy nose.

Chicken soup’s ability to inhibit these cells could partially explain why it is so effective against some cold and flu symptoms.

Broths (Pepper soup)

Similar to chicken soup, broths are excellent sources of hydration while you’re sick.

They’re full of flavor and can contain calories, vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, calcium, folate and phosphorous.

If you drink them while hot, broths also have the wonderful benefit of acting as a natural decongestant because of the hot steam.

Drinking broth is a good way to stay hydrated, and the rich flavors can help you feel satisfied. This is especially helpful if your stomach is unsettled and you are unable to keep down solid foods.

If you’re making broth from scratch, it may have even more benefits — including a higher calorie, protein and nutrient content.

Many people rave about the benefits of bone broth and claim it has many healing properties.

Hot Tea

Tea is a favorite remedy for many symptoms associated with colds and the flu.

Just like chicken soups and broths, hot tea acts as a natural decongestant, helping clear the sinuses of mucus. Note that tea needs to be hot to act as a decongestant, but it shouldn’t be so hot that it further irritates your throat.

You don’t need to worry about tea being dehydrating. Although some teas do contain caffeine, the amounts are far too small to cause any increased water loss.

This means that sipping on tea throughout the day is a great way to help you stay hydrated while relieving congestion at the same time.

Tea also contains polyphenols, which are natural substances found in plants that may have a large number of health benefits. These range from antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action to anti-cancer effects.

Tannins are one type of polyphenol found in tea. In addition to acting as antioxidants, tannins also have antiviral, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.

In a study, hibiscus tea reduced the growth of avian flu in a test tube. Echinacea tea also shortened the length of cold and flu symptoms

In addition, several types of teas specifically developed to relieve cough or throat pain were shown to be effective in clinical studies.

All of these effects make tea an important part of your diet when you’re sick.

Resting, drinking fluids and getting proper nutrition are some of the most important things you can do to feel better and recover faster when sick.

But some foods have benefits that go beyond just providing your body with nutrients.

While no food alone can cure sickness, eating the right foods can support your body’s immune system and help relieve certain symptoms.

World going through unprecedented Chip shortage – China Trade Body

The world is going through an unprecedented chip shortage, Zhou Zixue, a senior official with the China Semiconductor Industry Association, said on Wednesday, after semiconductor sales grew 18% last year.

Zhou, chairman of Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC), said in remarks at SEMICON China,“If you are an experienced player, you will remember that in 1999 there was a similar crisis in this industry, but it was way smaller.”
He added, “We have to deepen our cooperation, we have to give more attention to innovation. Only by doing that our industry can control the challenges facing us.”
China is the world’s largest buyer of semiconductors, but domestic production is marginal.

Sales in China grew 17.8% in 2020 from a year earlier to 891 billion yuan ($137 billion), according to CSIA.
China’s need to cut dependence on overseas chip companies became evident last year when U.S. sanctions on Shenzhen-based hardware maker Huawei Technologies Co Ltd prevented it from sourcing components, crippling a once-booming smartphone business.
Not long after that, the spread of COVID-19 disrupted supply chains and eventually caused a chip shortage. Once concentrated in the automotive industry, the crunch has now spread to a wide range of electronics and reached the uppermost parts of the chip supply chain.

Super Foods for the Liver

The liver is a large, meaty organ that sits on the right side of the belly. Weighing about 3 pounds, the liver is reddish-brown in color and feels rubbery to the touch. Normally you can’t feel the liver, because it’s protected by the rib cage.

The liver has two large sections, called the right and the left lobes. The gallbladder sits under the liver, along with parts of the pancreas and intestines. The liver and these organs work together to digest, absorb, and process food.

The liver’s main job is to filter the blood coming from the digestive tract, before passing it to the rest of the body. The liver also detoxifies chemicals and metabolizes drugs. As it does so, the liver secretes bile that ends up back in the intestines. The liver also makes proteins important for blood clotting and other functions.

The liver plays a very vital role in the body, so it is only proper and imperative to take care of it by giving it the right kind of food at all times.

In this article, you will be getting to know some super foods for the liver that will enable it to always perform optimally.

Coffee

You might be wondering why coffee because of the level of caffeine present in it, but yes coffee in one of the super foods for the Liver.

Coffee is one of the best beverages you can drink to promote liver health.

Studies have shown that drinking coffee protects the liver from disease, even in those who already have problems with this organ.

For example, studies have repeatedly shown that drinking coffee helps lower the risk of cirrhosis, or permanent liver damage, in people with chronic liver disease

Drinking coffee may also help reduce the risk of developing a common type of liver cancer, and it has positive effects on liver disease and inflammation. It’s even associated with a lower risk of death in people with chronic liver disease, with the greatest benefits seen in those who drink at least three cups per day.

These benefits seem to stem from its ability to prevent the buildup of fat and collagen, two of the main markers of liver disease.

Coffee also decreases inflammation and increases levels of the antioxidant glutathione. Antioxidants neutralize harmful free radicals, which are produced naturally in the body and can cause damage to cell

Tea

Tea another super food that is widely considered to be beneficial for health and evidence has shown that it may have particular benefits for the liver.

One Japanese study found that drinking 10 cups of green tea per day was associated with improved blood markers of liver health.

Furthermore, another review found that people who drank green tea were less likely to develop liver cancer. The lowest risk was seen in people who drank four or more cups per day.

Nevertheless, some people, especially those who have liver problems, should exercise caution before consuming green tea as a supplement.

That’s because there have been several reports of liver damage resulting from the use of supplements containing green tea extract.

Grapes

Grapes, especially red and purple grapes are delicious and contain a variety of beneficial plant compounds. The most famous one is resveratrol, which has a number of health benefits.

Many studies have shown that grapes and grape juice can benefit the liver these studies have shown that they can have various benefits, including lowering inflammation, preventing damage and increasing antioxidant levels.

A small study with Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) showed that supplementing with grape seed extract for 3 months helped improve liver function.

However, since grape seed extract is a concentrated form, you might not see the same effects from consuming whole grapes. More studies are needed before taking grape seed extract for the liver can be recommended.

Nonetheless, the wide range of evidence from animal and some human studies suggests that grapes are a very liver-friendly food.

Beetroot juice

This red herby juice is a source of nitrates and antioxidants called betalains, which may benefit heart health and reduce oxidative damage and inflammation.

It’s reasonable to assume that eating beets themselves would have similar health effects. However, most studies use beetroot juice.

Grapefruit

Grapefruit contains antioxidants that naturally protect the liver. The two main antioxidants found in grapefruit are naringenin and naringin.

The protective effects of grapefruit are known to occur in two ways — by helping reduce inflammation and protect cells.

Studies have also shown that these antioxidants can help reduce the development of hepatic fibrosis, a harmful condition in which excessive connective tissue builds up in the liver. This typically results from chronic inflammation.

Studies have shown that grapefruit are a good way to keep your liver healthy by helping prevent damage and inflammation.

Cruciferous Vegetable

Cruciferous vegetables like Brussels sprouts, broccoli and mustard greens are known for their high fiber content and distinctive taste. They are also high in beneficial plant compounds.

Studies have shown Brussels sprouts and broccoli sprout extract help increase levels of detoxification enzymes and protect the liver from damage.

Another study in human liver cells found that this effect remained even when Brussels sprouts when cooked

Cruciferous vegetables look promising as a beneficial food for liver health.

Try lightly roasting them with garlic and lemon juice or balsamic vinegar to turn them into a tasty and healthy dish.

Nuts

Nuts are high in fats, nutrients, including the antioxidant vitamin E, and beneficial plant compounds.

This composition is responsible for several health benefits, especially for heart health, but potentially also for the liver.

A 2019 study found a diet higher in nuts to be associated with a decreased risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

What’s more, a second observational study found that men who ate small amounts of nuts and seeds had a higher risk for developing NAFLD than men who ate large amounts of nuts and seeds.

While more high quality studies are needed, preliminary data points to nuts being an important food group for liver health.

Fatty Fish

Fatty fish contain, omega -3 fatty acids which are healthy fats that help reduce inflammation and have been associated with a lower risk of heart disease.

A 2016 analysis found that omega 3 fatty acids helped lower liver fat and triglycerides in those with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.

While consuming omega-3-rich fatty fish appears to be beneficial for your liver, adding more omega-3 fats to your diet is not the only thing to consider.

The ratio of omega-3 fats to omega-6 fats is also important.

Most people exceed the intake recommendations for omega-6 fats, which are found in many plant oils. An omega-6 to omega-3 ratio that’s too high can promote the development of liver disease.

Therefore, it’s a good idea to reduce your intake of omega-6 fats, too.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is considered a healthy fat because of its  many health benefits, including positive effects on heart and metabolic health. However, it also has positive effects on the liver.

One small study in 11 people with NAFLD found that consuming one teaspoon (6.5 ml) of olive oil per day improved liver enzyme and fat levels.

It also raised levels of a protein associated with positive metabolic effects.

The participants also had less fat accumulation and better blood flow in the liver.

Several more recent studies have found similar effects of olive oil consumption in humans, including less fat accumulation in the liver, improved insulin sensitivity, and improved blood levels of liver enzymes.

Fat accumulation in the liver is part of the first stage of liver disease. Therefore, olive oil’s positive effects on liver fat, as well as other aspects of health which makes it a valuable part of a healthy diet.

These are just a few of the foods that your Liver can gain a whole lot of nutritional value from, why not inculcate some of these foods into your diet so you can the best of them for your Liver.
