WNBA Champion Shares How Faith Kept Her, After Bullied For Being Straight

0

Former WNBA star Candice Wiggins sees herself as a non-traditional Christian who has walked a rocky road.

Three years ago, Wiggins says she was forced to retire early in part because she was bullied for being straight in a league she estimates is 98% gay. After telling her truth, though, Wiggins now reveals how she leaned on her faith after being attacked with “unimaginable anger.”

“It was an anger directed toward me that I have never imagined was possible. It was unimaginable anger that I had sparked,” she explained in an interview a day after the 2021 NBA All-Star Game.

Wiggins played for four WNBA teams and won a championship with the Minnesota Lynx in 2011. She was named the league’s Sixth Woman of the Year in 2008 when she was the No. 3 overall draft pick out of Stanford University. She played overseas in places like Greece and Spain.

In 2016, however, at age 29, Wiggins voluntarily ended her WNBA career. A year later, she disclosed in an interview, along with other tensions, that she had been bullied in the WNBA for being straight and that the culture in the WNBA encouraged women to look and act like men in the NBA.

Joint Admissions And Matriculation Board Parades Two Staff Members For Fraudulent Act

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have paraded two of its staff members who allegedly extorted money from Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates with the promise to help them secure university admission.

One of the affected staff members, Andy Okoro, a level 12 officer in Delta State JAMB office, said he collected N500,000 from four parents, out of which he paid N180,000 to a colleague, Gambo Ibrahim Abba, to help facilitate their university admission.

Trouble started when one of the parents in Delta State petitioned JAMB on Okoro’s activities, a move that prompted the Board to investigate deeply into the issue.

Okoro told journalists in Abuja that he engaged in the fraudulent act because of economic hardship.

A mild drama, ensued when his accomplice, Gambo, a level 8 officer at JAMB headquarters, said he was probably hypnotised by Okoro to engage in the shady deals.

Unusual Phenomenon: Strange Ice Volcano Attracts Tourists In Kazakhstan

0

The steppes of Kazakhstan’s Almaty region are not the most inviting place, especially in winter time, but one unusual phenomenon has been attracting a lot of tourists there lately.

Located between the villages of Kegen and Shyrganak in the middle of a snow-covered plateau is a 14-meter-high ice tower that continuously spouts water which turns to ice almost instantly.

The unique structure looks like a miniature volcano, only instead of hot lava, it spouts water.

The sight has become popular both among locals, but also Instagram fans and influencers looking for special backgrounds for their social media posts.

According to a recent Instagram post, the ice volcano is the result of an underground spring that spouts water all year-round.

In the summer, it causes a green vegetation bloom for tens of meters around it, but in winter time, when temperatures drop below zero, the water freezes creating the ice volcano cone.

It continues to spray water all around, creating a natural ice-rink.

Photos and videos of the ice volcano in Almaty recently went viral on social media, attracting large numbers of visitors to the otherwise barren steppes, some of whom drove for several hours just to see the weird natural formation in person.

Interestingly, locals say that this is the first year that the volcano actually gushes water, as in previous years there was only, a smaller, empty ice cone.
