It should be distributed free: Buhari to go tough on those selling prepaid meters

0

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his resolve to mete stiff measures to any of the Discos or their agents selling prepaid meters to their customers against the directive that they should be distributed free.

This is in furtherance of the directive that a total of six million meters, manufactured or assembled locally, should be rolled out to electricity consumers to end the agitation against estimated billing.

The Special Adviser to the President on Infrastructure, Ahmed Rufai Zakar, who represented Buhari at the FGN/NLC-TUC ad-hoc committee on electricity tariff stakeholders engagement in Ibadan, Oyo State on Wednesday, said the president understood the citizens’ plights on issues surrounding electricity and was determined to deal with bad elements.

He said, “We have made it very clear through the regulator’s direct order as well as intervention from the Ministry of Power that the meters are to be provided to Nigerians at no cost.

“Even for meters that were paid for, there is the directive from the regulator to the discos that they would need to find a way to reimburse those citizens over time.

“In cases where we find any disco or disco representative selling the meters or exploiting Nigerians to be able to get meters by paying, we would take the full measures of the law.

“The President has mandated that these meters must be free. We have also said that they must come from local manufacturers.

“This would create jobs and revive our industry.”

COVID-19: 48 NBA players test positive

0

The NBA announced Wednesday that 48 players have tested positive for the coronavirus, a dramatic increase over the zero positive tests reported during last season’s quarantine bubble in Florida.

The league said the positive tests are the result of 546 tests carried out between November 24-30 as the NBA gets set to begin preseason games in nine days.

The zero positive tests were from the beginning of last season’s quarantine bubble to the end of the season in mid-October.

One team, the Golden State Warriors, has already delayed the beginning of their individual workouts by a day this week because of players testing positive.

This was the initial round of tests for players as they returned to their teams ahead of the start of individual workouts on Tuesday. The NBA says it will be testing all of its players daily throughout the season.

The infection rate number is also higher than the 46 players that tested positive for Covid-19 in the weeks ahead of the start of the pandemic-disrupted season. The new results show the league has a positivity rate of 8.8 percent, which is high.

Under the league’s tough new Covid-19 protocols, a player who tests positive has to refrain from workouts for at least 10 days and more if he is showing symptoms.

The NBA’s first preseason games are December 11 with the regular season scheduled to begin less than two weeks later.

Amotekun arrests suspected killers of Ondo monarch

0

The Ondo State Security Agency Network, the Amotekun, on Wednesday, said it had arrested some persons in connection with the killing of the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Israel Adeusi.

Oba Adeusi was shot dead by gunmen at Elegbeka on the Akure-Owo-Benin Expressway in the Ose Local Government Area of the state last Thursday.

The monarch was said to be returning from Akure, where he attended a meeting, when he ran into the bandits.

The state Commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, announced the arrest of the suspects while speaking to journalists in Akure.

He, however, did not disclose the identities and number of the suspects.

According to the Amotekun boss, the suspects were arrested by the men of the outfit, who combed the forest after the incident.

He said three kidnap victims were also rescued by his men during the operation.

Adeleye stated, “We combed the forest in Elegbeka and we are able to arrest some suspects and they are undergoing interrogation. We rescued three victims from the Elegbeka forest on the same night that the traditional ruler of Ifon was killed.

“On the recent kidnap in the state, our men, in collaboration with the conventional security agencies, local hunters, vigilantes and the OPC went into the forest and we were able to make some arrests and those arrested are undergoing various levels of interrogation

“What we observed in the last two weeks is a downward trend in criminal activities within the state. This is why the Amotekun Corps decided to change tactics so that we can sustain the relative peace in the state.

“We have commenced what we tagged: ‘Operation Clean Up’ in the state. This is to take the war against criminality to every corner of the state rather than wait for the criminals to come out.”

Adeleye also disclosed that the agency had arrested no fewer than 15 persons for various criminal activities in the state after it launched the ‘Operation Clean Up’ as part of efforts to flush out bandits from the state.

He explained that the suspects were arrested at various locations across the state, adding that men of the security outfit had been deployed in flashpoints across the state.

He said, “We visited some of the dark spots between midnight and 4am; we were able to arrest about 15 of these criminals where they were committing the criminal acts.

“We arrested about 15 suspects during the ‘Operation Clean Up’ that we commenced yesterday (Tuesday). Most of these criminals would be turned over to the conventional security agencies for prosecution where necessary.”

He added that men of the Amotekun Corps in the state had redoubled their efforts in the deployment of personnel, surveillance and stop and search operations in the territory.

Over 49,000 Doctors And Scientists Call For An End To Covid Lockdowns

0

Doctors and scientists from around the world have signed a document calling for an end to COVID-19 lockdowns because of “grave concerns” over public health.

The Great Barrington Declaration argues that continued lockdowns causes health issues that outweigh the dangers of the coronavirus and calls for “focused protection.” So far, 671,731 concerned citizens, 37,198 doctors and 12,512 medical and public health scientists from around the world have signed the document.

The document, first published in October by Drs. Jay Bhattacharya, Sunetra Gupta and Martin Kulldorff, reads in parts, “Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health. The results (to name a few) include lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings and deteriorating mental health – leading to greater excess mortality in years to come, with the working class and younger members of society carrying the heaviest burden. Keeping students out of school is a grave injustice.”

The doctors argue that as evidence now shows the virus has a minimal impact on people who are not old or infirm, governments should reopen society.

Old and vulnerable people should self-quarantine, and others who are not vulnerable should study, work and live life as usual.

UK Court Rules that Children Under 16 Cannot Consent to Gender Transition Treatments

0

A United Kingdom high court ruled this week that children younger than 16 are not mature enough to consent to experimental gender transition treatments.

The decision comes after a 23-year-old and a mother of an autistic 15-year-old sued the Tavistock clinic.

23 years old Keira Bell, claims in the suit that the gender-transition drugs damaged her body and may have made her unable to have children. Bell opted for the gender transition originally, but called it a “brash decision” she made as a teenager.

UK judges agreed with Bell, saying it is “highly unlikely” that children under 16 understand the long-term effects of gender transition treatments.

The attorney who represented Bell and the other claimant, Paul Conrathe, said the ruling was a historic judgment that protects children who suffer from gender dysphoria which may have led to hundreds of children receiving this experimental treatment without their properly informed consent.

President Buhari to Address House of Representatives on Security

0

President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to address the House of Representatives on the security situation in the country.

According to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, a date has been agreed on and it will be communicated soon.

He stated this on Wednesday, noting that the president is more concerned than most on the state of insecurity in the nation and will speak to Nigerians through their representatives soon.

The decision to summon President Buhari was taken at Tuesday’s plenary when the House considered a motion moved by members from Borno State on the recent massacre of 43 rice farmers in the state by Boko Haram insurgents.

The debate had earlier turned rowdy after the Speaker appealed that it would be inappropriate to invite the president to disclose the actions being taken towards handling the security situation in the country.

Cleaning Hacks That Will Make Christmas Cooking This Year So Much Fun

0

Christmas time is undoubtedly the best time of the year. Not just because you get considerable time off work, but you also get to spend quality time with friends and family. It’s the reunion season.

The yuletide season is often referred to as a time of sharing and caring and one Christmas tradition that has held up amongst many families is the tradition of sharing food. Whichever relatives’ house the family decides to congregate, always seeks to stuff everyone with as much great tasting food they can muster. So we all gather around and eat till we can’t move.

In my family, grills are most definitely a Christmas staple and so are smoothies and homemade fruit juice, but if you’ve ever done any of these, you’ll know just how difficult and annoying it is to clean up when you’re done. This is what many people think of that discourages them from totally cashing out on that Christmas enjoyment but keep reading, below is a list of cleaning hacks that will make it so much easier to try your favorite recipes today.

GRILL

It is important that you do a routine clean after every grill, but that seasonal complete grill clean is very important if you don’t want your food to have an ‘off’ flavor and that is the one most people hate.

THE HACK:

The first thing is to try to clean your grill as soon as possible. letting your grill sit long especially after grilling meat will make it harder to clean because of the solidified fat and grime.

Also, consider using vinegar and baking soda to get the grime off faster. The ‘acid-base’ reaction is the reason baking soda and vinegar are cleaning partners in crime. Slathering a baking soda paste on your dirty grill and then splashing a little vinegar on it cuts through grease and leaves it gleaming. Alternatively, you can spray some vinegar on your grill grate, let it soak for a bit, then go in with your grill brush.

Remember to empty coal remains and ash if it’s a coal grill and take out the tray that collects drippings and grease in the case of a gas grill.

ELECTRIC BLENDER

Believe it or not, cleaning blenders have become my favorite chore since I found this one out. With this one, I don’t have to put my hands in anything I don’t want to and I don’t have to be mindful of the blades.

HACK

After using your blender, empty out its contents and fill it halfway with warm water. Add washing liquid and plug the jar or carafe into its base. Cover up your blender, power it, and let the blades clean themselves. You can change the water and repeat this process if it isn’t clean enough yet. Take a damp soapy sponge to the body of the jar to clean external stains.

TEA/ COFFEE STAINS

Not enough mugs to serve tea with those beautiful cookies you invested time to make or (buy) because you’re ashamed of the stains in your china? Well, fear not as this hack will resurrect all your crockery in the blink of an eye.

HACK

Take a little baking soda, add vinegar to it, and make a paste. run this paste around in the cup and massage for a bit. You can also use a sponge if you please. Rinse with water and there you have it, Stain-free cups.

BLENDER BASE

Say, you’re making a puree and some of it spills out and unto the base of your blender, If it’s not a lot it’s quite easy to forget. After a while, there’s a buildup and it just needs to be cleaned. You can’t exactly toss it in water and you can’t have a sparkling carafe or jug and a filthy engine just lying around now can you?

HACK

Get an old toothbrush and put some paste on it. Dip it in water and use it to wash the base. Wipe with a cloth. The little bristles get in all the little crevices much easier than a sponge would. The preferred toothpaste for this would be Colgate.

BONUS HACK

In the spirit of Christmas, here’s some extra tip for you. Fill the bottle with half water and half vinegar, and splash in 15 drops of essential oils like mint, lemon, lavender, citronella, or eucalyptus. Spray the house or the porch liberally to chase away the bugs. A mix of salt and kerosene in a spray bottle also works.

Care for and Style Your 4C Hair

4C hair is recognized as one of the hair types within the type 4 range and is known to be very tightly curled. It is essential to understand that each head of hair is different. Some people with this hair will have curl definition, and others will not. Some will also have many different hair patterns. This tightly curly hair texture is also known to be a very delicate hair type. 4C hair can be coarse, it can also be fine in texture, and the hair type where shrinkage occurs the most. This hair type can also be very prone to breakage if not cared for properly.

Are you a naturalista with 4C hair? 4C hair is so beautiful and unique, and on the natural hair scale is considered the kinkiest hair texture of all hair types. This hair can be identified by many factors. If your hair strands are very tightly coiled, and the hair forms very tight ‘S’ or ‘Z’ shapes in the hair, then you have 4C hair. This tightly coiled and curly hair texture can also have different patterns throughout the hair. In the natural hair community, there are always many questions surrounding how to care for your hair and even the best way to style it. Let’s talk a little more about 4C hair.

The three separating factors of type 4c natural hair

The tightness of 4c coils provides all the characteristics that set it apart from other hair types. It also results in thin strands of hair that are extremely vulnerable and prone to damage and breaking. Caring for 4c hair requires a lot of patience and tender, loving care. However, once you figure out what works for your hair, caring for it becomes no more difficult than caring for any other hair type.

Fighting shrinkage and tangles

Shrinkage leads to tangles, as does the number of twists and turns (coils) there are in each strand. The more twists and turns there are on each strand, the more opportunity there is for each coil to tangle and knot with neighbouring strands.

One popular way of countering this is by keeping 4c hair stretched in sections, or in a protective style, using heat-free methods like banding. Remember to keep hair moisturized when it is in a protective or low-manipulation style. Rocking a twist-out or braid-out is another good option if you still want to wear your ends out.

They keep the hair stretched, thereby minimizing the risk of tangles, and fighting shrinkage. If done right, a twist-out or braid-out has the added bonus of providing curl definition and elongation to tightly coiled strands for days on end.

Keeping your type 4c hair moisturized

Now you are probably wondering, what are the best products to keep your 4C hair healthy, moisturized, and looking its best? The products you use on your 4C hair must provide moisture. Type 4c natural hair strands make it difficult for the natural oils secreted by the scalp to make it from the roots to the tips of the hair. In turn, this texture is more prone to dryness than others. Keeping the proper moisture balance allows hair to be more elastic, and less brittle, meaning less breakage.

Pay particular attention to your ends when applying a moisturizer, and do not forget to seal your moisturizer into the hair by using an oil, butter, or gel. Get on a deep conditioning routine to provide your hair with the necessary hydration boost. Some naturals choose to do this after each wash, but do what works best for your hair’s density and porosity.

Keep hair strong by treating with protein

Extreme shrinkage and a predisposition for tangles make it very easy for 4c hair to break.

One half of the equation for preventing breakage is by keeping hair moisturized. The other half is to keep it strong by ensuring that its protein structure is intact. Protein treatments help to strengthen the hair, and fill in any gaps that exist in the hair strand, making it less likely to break.

Healthy hair has a correct balance of protein and moisture; without the right balance, weakened natural hair will break. You will not typically need to use a protein treatment every time you wash your hair, unless you are experiencing extreme breakage. And if that is the case, it may be time for a trim. Listen to your hair, and you’ll likely notice when your hair needs that extra bit of strengthening. Over time, you’ll learn the frequency that works best for you, and be able to fine tune your regimen.

Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day

A natural hair journey is not a sprint; it is a marathon. Pace yourself, and know that you are in it for the long haul. With a little patience, trust that the reward will come sooner than later. Do you have type 4c hair? If so, what are some tips you’ve learned along the way to help grow and strengthen your kinks and coils? Share them with us below!
