Trump Cuts Down Russia’s Ukraine War Ultimatum

U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday that he is shortening the 50-day deadline he initially gave Russia to resolve its ongoing conflict with Ukraine, signaling his growing irritation with President Vladimir Putin over the extended violence.

“I’m disappointed in President Putin,” Trump remarked during a joint appearance with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer ahead of their scheduled meeting in Scotland. “I’m going to reduce that 50 days that I gave him to a lesser number because I think I already know the answer what’s going to happen.”

Although Trump did not state a revised timeline, this shift follows the deadline he had imposed earlier in the month. The president has consistently expressed dismay over Russia’s continued military aggression, despite diplomatic efforts by the United States.

Prior to his return to office this January, Trump, who positions himself as a diplomatic problem-solver, pledged to resolve the nearly four-year war in just one day.

He has also issued warnings about the possibility of enforcing additional economic penalties on Russia, as well as on countries that continue to buy Russian exports, should a resolution not be reached by the start of September.

Nonetheless, Trump has occasionally softened his stance toward Putin, pointing to what he believes has been a generally positive history between them. He’s also aired frustrations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

“We thought we had that settled numerous times, and then President Putin goes out and starts launching rockets into some city like Kyiv and kills a lot of people in a nursing home or whatever,” Trump said. “And I say that’s not the way to do it.”

Deadly Floods Hit Eastern Romania, Forcing Mass Evacuations

Torrential flooding in parts of eastern Romania overnight has led to one fatality and widespread displacement, as authorities scrambled to rescue residents and contain the damage on Monday.

Officials reported that approximately 25 villages across nine different counties were overwhelmed by intense rainfall and strong winds, which damaged thousands of properties, tore rooftops apart, toppled trees, and disrupted movement along key national routes.

The most severely impacted regions were Neamt and Suceava counties, where rivers overflowed, resulting in the death of a 66-year-old man and forcing large numbers of residents to flee. In Suceava’s Brosteni village, roads leading in and out became completely inaccessible.

According to the Environment Ministry’s water authority, water levels in some rivers reached historic peaks. Crews have since begun restoration efforts, including work on bridges that were destroyed by the surging waters.

Germany Advances Plans To Build Long-Range Drones For Strategic Strikes

Germany is pushing ahead with a program aimed at designing advanced long-range drones that can carry out deep-target missions far beyond its borders.

This initiative reflects a broader push to reinforce the country’s defense capacity amid evolving global threats and security demands.

Germany’s air force, the Luftwaffe, has reportedly approached major defense industry players and emerging tech firms for proposals on new drone systems designed specifically for long-range offensive operations. Three industrial groups have now formed to begin developing concrete concepts for the project.

Among those contributing to the effort are Airbus Defence in cooperation with U.S.-based Kratos, and Rheinmetall, which has teamed up with drone company Anduril. Munich’s Helsing, a startup with growing defense credentials, is also involved in the early stages of the program.

The country’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that preliminary conversations regarding the drone project have taken place, though no formal procurement process has started. Details regarding delivery schedules or expected performance features have not been made public.

This drone project represents a major leap in Germany’s attempt to update its military tools, especially in light of increasing international instability. The unmanned systems are expected to give the armed forces more precision and operational reach in future conflicts.

Officials and company representatives declined to offer further public comments at this time.

Lagos Appeals To Doctors To Cancel Planned Three-Day Warning Strike

0

‎The Lagos State Government has urged medical doctors to call off their three-day warning strike set to commence today, stating that discussions and negotiations with the Medical Guild are still in progress.

‎Medical doctors employed by the Lagos State Government is set to begin a three-day warning strike today in protest against what they termed “illegal and disrespectful” salary deductions by the government.

‎The Medical Guild, which represents medical and dental practitioners in the state’s public sector, announced that the strike would commence at 8 a.m. and run until the same time on Thursday.

‎Speaking at a press conference held at the Guild’s secretariat in Lagos, the Chairman, Dr. Japhet Olugbogi, said the decision to embark on the strike followed several unsuccessful efforts to resolve the issue through dialogue.

‎He explained that the dispute began in April when the state government made unilateral deductions from doctors’ salaries. Although these deductions were later reversed due to what he called “spirited intervention and strategic engagement,” the issue resurfaced in July with new deductions, “this time without prior notice or explanation.”

‎Among their key demands, the doctors are calling for an immediate reversal of the July deductions and full payment of the 12-month revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) arrears owed to honorary consultants at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

‎In response to the concerns raised by the Medical Guild leadership, the Ministry of Health stated that the government is already addressing “all grievances of the doctors with utmost sincerity and urgency.”

‎“Negotiations and engagements with the Medical Guild are ongoing”, a statement by the ministry’s Director, Public Affairs, Mr. Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, said last night.

‎The statement reads, “This is the first time the ministry is experiencing such a development in recent years and the government is particularly concerned about the welfare, motivation, and productivity of all healthcare workers across the state.

‎“A conciliation committee, comprising representatives from both the Medical Guild and the Government was previously constituted to resolve all outstanding issues. Meetings have been held, and documents submitted by the Guild are being carefully reviewed in line with existing policies and fiscal regulations.

‎“As a responsible Government, we value the critical role our healthcare professionals play in delivering quality and timely health services to the over 20 million residents of Lagos State”.

‎”We urge the Medical Guild to continue on the path of dialogue while we work to reach a peaceful and just resolution in the interest of all parties, especially the residents who may bear the brunt of any service disruption.”

‎“The Lagos State Ministry of Health therefore appeals to the Medical Guild to reconsider its decision on the warning strike and allow the ongoing discussions to reach a fruitful conclusion.

‎Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu remains committed to promoting the welfare of healthcare workers and ensuring industrial harmony within the health sector”.

‎“We thank the people of Lagos for their patience and understanding and assure the public that contingency plans are being put in place to minimize any impact on healthcare services during this period.”

EU Accuses Temu Of Failing To Curb Illegal Goods On Its Platform

European Union regulators on Monday accused the Chinese e-commerce platform Temu of failing to adequately prevent the sale of unlawful products to consumers within the bloc.

Officials warned that Temu’s lack of compliance with safety standards could potentially result in financial penalties amounting to as much as 6% of its yearly global revenue.

According to a formal announcement, “Evidence showed that there is a high risk for consumers in the EU to encounter illegal products on the platform.”

Investigators reported that a recent undercover purchasing operation uncovered widespread listings of questionable goods on Temu, including items like “baby toys and small electronics”, which failed to meet legal requirements.

Authorities criticized Temu for relying on generic industry data in its safety assessments, rather than focusing on risks unique to its own operations.

Should these preliminary conclusions be upheld, regulators may determine that the platform has violated the rules outlined in the Digital Services Act.

“Such a decision could entail fines of up to 6% of the total worldwide annual turnover of the provider and order the provider to take measures to address the breach,” the statement explained.

Temu will be given a chance to officially reply to the allegations in the weeks ahead, although no specific deadline has been issued.

In response, a Temu representative stated that the platform intends to “cooperate fully” with regulatory authorities during the process.

Officials emphasized that these concerns are just one part of a wider investigation. Temu is also being scrutinized over other possible rule violations, including the use of “addictive design features,” the lack of transparency in its product recommendation algorithms, and restrictions on “access to data for researchers.”

Tanzania And Rwanda Forge Stronger Partnership With Transport And Trade

0

Tanzania and Rwanda have signed a series of new agreements aimed at boosting trade, transport, and cultural ties as both nations push to deepen bilateral cooperation. The deals were formalized in Kigali during the 16th Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) attended by Tanzania’s Foreign Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo and Rwanda’s Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe.

One of the key agreements establishes a liaison office for the Tanzania Ports Authority in Kigali. The office will help Rwandan traders handle documentation and logistics, improving access to Dar es Salaam port, which currently handles the majority of Rwanda’s imports and exports. Officials say the move will reduce freight costs and streamline cross-border trade.

Both countries reaffirmed the importance of strengthening air transport links. RwandAir already operates daily flights between Kigali and Tanzanian cities, while discussions are underway to have Air Tanzania resume passenger services to Kigali. Plans are also being considered to launch cargo flights to support Rwanda’s growing freight sector.

Tanzania and Rwanda pledged to move forward with the development of a standard gauge railway (SGR) connecting the two countries. Technical teams are working on feasibility studies and routes to create a more efficient transport network for goods and passengers.

The agreements also emphasized cultural integration, with Tanzania supporting Rwanda’s adoption of Kiswahili as one of its official languages. Tanzania has offered to supply learning materials and train teachers to strengthen Kiswahili education in Rwanda, recognizing the language’s growing role across East and Central Africa.

Beyond transport and language, both governments agreed to expand collaboration in security, ICT, agriculture, energy, tourism, health, and investment. The move underscores the two countries’ commitment to integrated development under the East African Community framework.

D’Tigress head into the tie on the back of a dominant 92–45 victory over Rwanda on Saturday. The six-time African champions showcased their depth and discipline, winning all four quarters convincingly to extend their unbeaten run in the competition having last suffered defeat in the semi-finals of the 2015 edition.

Historically, Nigeria have dominated this fixture, winning eight of their last ten meetings against Mozambique. Their most recent encounter came in the 2023 AfroBasket quarter-finals, where D’Tigress edged a tense contest 59–52. Prior to that, Nigeria registered a 67–50 win in the 2021 group stage, while Mozambique’s last victory came in the 2013 quarter-finals.

Aeroflot Halts Over 50 Flights Amid Claimed Cyberattack

A significant disruption affected Russia’s flagship airline on Monday as more than 50 scheduled flights were grounded due to what is being described as a major cybersecurity breach.

While the airline didn’t disclose specific details about the issue or give a timeline for resolution, screens at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport displayed a series of cancellations during what is traditionally a peak travel period for domestic vacations.

Authorities at the federal level expressed concern over the incident. Investigators have confirmed that the disruptions stem from a cyber intrusion and have launched an official criminal probe.

A digital statement, allegedly from a group identifying itself as Silent Crow and working in coordination with a Belarus-based collective named Cyberpartisans BY, claimed responsibility for the breach. The message tied the action to ongoing hostilities in Ukraine.
“Glory to Ukraine! Long live Belarus!” the statement read, though its authenticity has not been independently verified.

Silent Crow has in the past attributed similar actions to itself, targeting institutions such as a property database, a telecommunications provider, an insurance firm, a major municipal IT office, and even the Russian branch of a foreign automotive brand. Many of those attacks led to the exposure of sensitive internal data.

“The information that we are reading in the public domain is quite alarming. The hacker threat is a threat that remains for all large companies providing services to the population,” a government spokesperson commented.

“We will, of course, clarify the information and wait for appropriate clarifications.”

Aeroflot, along with relevant transport authorities, did not immediately address the hacking allegations directly. However, the airline acknowledged that a technical issue had forced the cancellation of dozens of flights, affecting both domestic destinations and cities such as Minsk and Yerevan. More than ten additional flights experienced delays.

“Specialists are currently working to minimise the impact on the flight schedule and to restore normal service operations,” the company said.

The online statement attributed to Silent Crow described the breach as the culmination of a twelve-month infiltration campaign. It claimed to have dismantled thousands of servers and seized access to computers used by high-ranking staff, although it did not offer any proof of these claims.
