The Federal Government of Nigeria has opened applications for the second cohort of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, a major initiative designed to boost practical skills and reduce unemployment across the country.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced the development, describing it as a key part of the government’s human capital development strategy.

“Today marks the opening of applications for the second cohort of our National TVET Programme, a key step in advancing human capital development,” he said.
He noted that the first phase of the programme attracted massive interest nationwide.

“Last year, over 1.3 million Nigerians applied, a powerful reminder of the growing demand for practical skills and the impact they can have on people’s lives and our economy,” he added.

According to official details, the application portal reopened on April 13, 2026, offering fully funded training in multiple vocational fields. The programme includes two tracks: a six-month Short-Term Certificate for beginners and a one-year Vocational Education and Innovation track for individuals with prior experience.

Participants will benefit from free tuition, monthly stipends, hands-on training, and nationally recognised certification. In addition, graduates may access start-up support and business financing to launch their own ventures.

The initiative is part of the broader economic and employment strategy of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
