Tinubu Orders Urgent Repairs On Benin-Agbor-Asaba And Ekiti-Kogi Roads

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Works to take urgent action to restore movement on the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road and the Ifaki-Kabba-Ado Ekiti route in Ekiti and Kogi states.

The directive followed growing concerns over the poor condition of the roads, which has left motorists stranded for several hours and, in some cases, days.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Francis Nwaze, spokesperson for the Minister of Works, David Umahi, said the minister expressed concern over the difficulties faced by road users and the worsening state of the affected routes.

“President Tinubu, GCFR, has directed the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently intervene and ensure that necessary corrective actions are taken to restore movement on the affected roads as quickly as possible,” Umahi was quoted as saying.

Following the President’s directive, Umahi ordered immediate steps to address the situation.

As part of the intervention, the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, was directed to lead a team of ministry officials to the Ifaki-Kabba-Ado Ekiti axis to assess the damage and begin urgent remedial work.

The assignment was already underway by 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, with ministry officials deployed to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, Umahi travelled to Benin, Edo State, alongside members of the National Assembly Works Committees to coordinate a similar intervention on the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road.

The meeting in Benin is expected to involve key stakeholders, including representatives of the Edo and Delta State governments and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), as they work to find immediate solutions to the challenges facing motorists along the important corridor.

Nwaze said Umahi also accepted responsibility for the difficult situation on the affected roads and apologised to commuters who have been stranded or delayed for prolonged periods.

The Minister assured road users that the Federal Government’s response would not be limited to temporary relief, as immediate remedial measures would be implemented alongside plans for permanent solutions.

The government said it remains committed to restoring movement on the affected roads while addressing the underlying problems to improve their long-term reliability.
